Was using my phone today and then after about 15 mins I went to use it again and the home button would not work. Had to turn off then turned back on and nothing was different. Did this a few times as I spend a lot of time on my phone and once I was in an app then I could not get back out so I had to keep turning on and off. After a few hours of this the phone crashed and made me reset on iTunes. Did this and it still doesn't work. Phone is a a couple months old as I used my insurance after the last one went swimming.

As off yesterday my iPhone 4 home button stopped working. I could not reset (obviously) because to reset you need to hold home and power which doesn't work if home is broken. I tried turning the phone on and off several times and that had no effect. Out of nowhere it just started working again after a few hours. I upgradedd to 5.1.1 last night. It worked fine for about 24 hours. A few minutes ago it just stopped working again. I plugged it into itunes to backup and restore but it started working again. It worked for 5 minutes or so, then it worked only intermittantly for another 5 minutes and now it's broken again.

My iPhone 4 is having issues w/the home button. It doesn't work at all and I have to shut the phone own completely each time I want to toggle back and Roth ou of different apps, to us the phone, take pics., etc. Is there a fix for this issue or will I need a new phone?

That's basically it. I've tried charging it, plugging it into the computer, etc. and nothing has worked. I've heard about putting it into DFU and recovery modes but I can't do either since the home button stopped working. Is my phone dead or is there anything else I can try?

My iphone 4 is fairly new, I have been using it for about 2 months. It has been perfectly fine besides a bit kinks here and there, the usual things. But today my lock/power button randomly stopped working for me. My fone wont lock at all. I did shut it off by holding the home button and the lock button, but then I couldn't turn it back on, with the reason being my lock/power button will not work. It is not jammed nor loose.

so over the weekend, while I was away from home, the home button on my iPhone 4 stopped working. It happened suddenly, and the only preceding events I can think of were that (1) we had heavy rain but I kept the phone in my pocket and neither my pocket nor the phone were wet when I took it out after the rain had passed (2) I downloaded the F1 timing app which initially had some crashing issues. I'm not sure if either of these contributed but it's possible. While the home button wouldn't work at all when pressed, I found that the voice control was starting automatically (and calling my contacts without me knowing). This would suggest a long press of the home button I think however I couldn't replicate it with the button. To avoid calling more contacts from my pocket I turned the phone off but it turned itself straight back on and always went straight to voice control after starting up. I finally got around this by leaving the phone on flight mode while not in use. I also found the accessibility setting to have an on-screen home button which made the phone slightly usable but not ideal.
When I charged the phone that evening it came up with the recovery screen requesting that I plug into iTunes. As I was away and without my laptop I was not able to do this but got through the weekend by cancelling lots of voice control pop ups and a lot of flight mode use. Now I'm home I have connected to iTunes and a restore was required. I followed this right through, the restore completes and when it reconnects to iTunes it says it needs to restore again. At this stage I can unplug it, turn it off and on again and use it.If it's turned on while unplugged it will start ok and then can be connected to iTunes and synced but the voice control will still start automatically after turning on and the home button does not work at all.If it's turned on while plugged in it will be in recovery mode and request a restore again.

Sometimes will get assign speed dial to e or if i'm texting a capital E but it is completely random. Also at the same time when the screen times out it is unresponsive, the screen wont come up until you press any button many many times, found out that holding any button down will also make the screen reappear after a few seconds, also if you turn it off, the power button wont turn it back on, you have to take the battery out to get it on again, otherwise it works fine.

I am referring to the method of tapping the power button on the top left to add and remove the lock. The power button still works to turn the phone on etc, but just wont lock the screen. As you can imagine this makes life very difficult with a touch screen phone.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Blackberry Bold 9700 which was replaced under warranty in January this year. T mobile told me that they could not repair the old one and therefore it was replaced with a new one - the keyboard and lock button has now stopped working on this some of the time meaning it can't be used as I cannot unlock it. Despite the fact that it was only brand new in January as the contract is over 2 years now they say there is no warranty on it but speak to Blackberry can't find any other way of doing this?
