IPhone :: Switching To New PC - How To Preserve Current Settings
Apr 17, 2012
I've just bought a new, more powerful PC to replace my existing dated one, and would appreciate if someone could tell me what I need to do to preserve my current iPhone (3GS) apps/messages/settings etc when installing iTunes for the first time on the new system. Also, should I install the 64-bit version of iTunes (yes, it's a 64-bit system) or stick with the 32-bit version?
I've been told by Verizon and by Motorola that I need to do a factory reset. (Moto Approach stopped working yesterday and we can't get it to start again.)
Before doing that, is there any way to backup my folder settings (which apps are grouped together in which folders on my home screens)
This is the message I receive when trying to access various websites, such as my banking and business accounts. I contacted my service provider (AT&T) but they had no clue on how to resolve the issue. I have a Torch 9810.
I need to upgrade my late husband's iPhone iOS because some apps are no longer working with the iOS version. The last upgrade was done in 2010, to v4.1. My problem is that I do not want to risk losing anything on this iPhone, for sentimental reasons.I have transferred purchased items through iTunes to keep all the apps. Can someone please walk me through the steps required to make sure I lose no information presently on the iPhone when I upgrade? I want to make sure the text messages, photos (camera roll and albums) and contacts are intact.Calendar is not necessary. I'm usually pretty good at figuring things out but I'm really paranoid about losing anything this time.
During the weekend I am helping one family member to upgrade the iOS on her iPhone 3G from 3.1 to the latest available, 4.2.1?Before the upgrade, iTunes warns me "Upgrading to iOS 4.2 will delete all of the apps and media......" and suggest me that I should apply this update on teh compuetr where I syn apps, music, videos, and photos from. The problem is, this user has never sync it with a computer. She had been using this phone for over 2 years, she has 5 pages worth of apps, and of course she would have data in some apps. She has no problem letting me make my computer as THE computer that her iPhone syncs to, and I even created a new iTunes profile for her, authorized her Apple ID, and transferred her purchase into iTunes. But when I check "Syn App" on, it tells me that all apps and data on the iPhone will be replaced with the data in the iTunes library. Well, I know what this is about, this is like.. one way overwrite type of sychronization.
But when I looked over everything again, it seems like in the iOS3 era, if you don't sync your apps with a computer on day 1 before you start using the phone, you permanately lose the ability to backup the apps' data and restore to another device? I like to emphasize again that my focus is in data, not apps, I know I could transfer purchases from phone A to iTunes to phone B, it's the inability of backing up data. Do I miss anything here? Is there still a way I could upgrade this phone from iOS 3 to iOS4, without losing her app data?
I love how the iPhone accurately labels where I took my pictures, and I want that same accuracy on a Windows computer. I'm planning on deleting all my photos and videos to make more room for storage, but I don't want to lose my geotags. Is there a program that will accept the geotags that my iPhone have created?
I was just wondering if I went ahead and bought a blackberry curve 8900 off ebay is there anyway i could just put my current sim card in the bb and use my current plan. I dont want the data charges. By the way I have at&t. What about buying an unlocked 8900? would that help? I want the blackberry without the data plan, and i dont want at&t to just charge me for data.
i have just gotten a new iphone 4s and want to sync everything from my 3gs to my new one . how do i do this without itunes deleting everything from my old iphone before syncing the new one ? i back up my iphone to itunes evertime i use it if that helps solve my problem at all .
I just ordered an iPhone 4, but it won't ship for three weeks. I assume it will have the new software with the security patch. i want to be able to jailbreak it. Can I download the current release and downgrade when I get the phone? If so, how?
When I am using certain apps like Facebook and get a new notification, the notification doesn't go away like it usually does on other apps. I have to exit my current app to get the notification to go away. Is there a fix for this?
I'm just about to upgrade from iphone 3gs (ios5.1) to iphone 4s, but my old phone cuts out after 5-10mins on call, an error i've never been able to get rid of since i upgraded from ios3 to ios4 (i'm not a chatterbox, but it is very annoying!). If i restore from back up might this happen again?
I have an 8GB iPhone 3GS on AT&T, and I wanted to purchase a 16GB version on eBay. Will I be able to just pop the SIM card out of the current iPhone 3GS into the new iPhone 3GS and have it work properly?
I have unlocked from Telstra as I am currently overseas. I cannot access any network with my current sim - I would like to keep my sim rather than use an international sim.
Does anyone else have this problem with the Maps app? If I map a location, then ask for directions to or from my "current location," the routes display immediately. But if I try to use any other location (for example, from my contacts), it displays a "Loading..." message and stalls. This happens even with a strong wi-fi connection. This is an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1 with Verizon. My Maps app is using the standard view without traffic.
My IPhoneS stopped working right after I did the latest update which was yesterday. Now, the phone does not work at all. When turned on, the screen shows a picture of USB cable pointing to the ITunes logo. I have tried just about everything, and cannot get it working. It's like it is frozon. My ITunes does not recognize my device. Cannot dial out either. I desperately need to get it working.
So, the mobileme deadliner is approaching and I need to upgrade my 3GS to iOS 5 and my imac to LION. I've sorted out the iweb histing via another server (phew) and have tried to upgrade to iOS 5 via itunes (10.6.1) but the message I get is that my iphone software is 4.2.1 and is the current version.
when i am on a call, the lock screen shows the phone number and the length of time i have been on the call.is it possible to change this, so that the lock screen shows me the current time (like it does when i am not on the phone)?
currently, the only way to bring up the current time is to (1) hit the home button (brings up phone controls), (2) slide to unlock, (3) hit home again (to get to enter passcode screen), and (4) enter passcode to see time in green bar at the top of the screen. it's a cumbersome process.
I have a new e-mail address which I use on my own PC, but my iPhone does not recognize it and I need the new e-mail address to download uploads.I had forgotten the password to my former e-mail address. How do I download updates to the apps on my iPhone?I thought I had gotten the e-mail address changed at the local Apple store but my iPhone does not recognize the change. What do I do--take the phone back or what? I have better things to do than to go back and forth wasting my time on passwords and that garbage!
See image. The current temperature doesn't show in Notifications in iOS 8, nor did it show on iOS 7. I can't remember before that. For Android users, the temp is on the lock screen. I have to unlock, make sure I'm on the home screen, then hit the weather app. Why?!Â
is the current ios4 that apple released the shipping version or will there be another gm coming by the end of this week. I'm confused because the last one released was a candidate.
