IPhone :: Restore Contacts And Apps Without ITunes
Apr 1, 2010
My iPhone was acting up so I backed it up and took it to the Apple Store. They promptly replaced it and told me not to restore it from the backup in iTunes. While I was certain I'd heard Apple/Mac's didn't get viruses, the Genius told me that whatever problem the iPhone had, may be embedded into the Contacts and restoring them may transfer the problem to my new phone. Sounds like a virus to me.
He said there's a way to retrieve the contacts from the PC without going through Itunes & if I do it this way, my virus program will filter out any "embedded problem." No, I did not backup my contacts to Outlook. I never needed them and just assumed they were being put there. HELP!! I no longer use a paper phone book--I had over 10 years of contacts in my iPhone and are somewhere on my PC. How can I get them on my new iPhone?
2nd question. How do I get all of my apps back, again, without restoring from prior backup? I tried to right click on my iPhone in iTunes and click restore purchases, but a funny thing happened...it transferred only one over??? I have at least 25 or 30.
I have restored my phone settings and now trying to restore apps & music from Itunes on my computer but is asking for my backup password. I tried my password that I have always used when getting new apps, etc. but that didn't work. I'm loss as to what to do.. I can't even use my phone at this moment because there is nothing on it..
I had assumed i would be able to save/backup/restore the most important info on my cell like my text messages, phone contacts and ALL my photos in my photostream thru iTunes and NOT have to shell out $3.99US + taxes to be able to do so! The App Store has only 1 free app (out of a whopping 5) which, of course, i cannot use on my 6.1.6 iOS..
How can i backup my messages and contacts? How do I add more options from where I backup email contacts etc etc OTHER than just Microsoft programs? i.e. From Chrome or FireFox.
How do I save and access ALL my 600 pics from my phone when only 56 are listed to be able to be saved on iTunes? Would I be completely delusional to hope there is an app or software that could do a cross-platform transfer of my stuff to an Android phone....??Â
I just restored my galaxy s5 because of the lollipop update and i had everything backed up to my google account how do i get everything back onto my phone now.
if I restore factory setting to my iPhone, is it still possible to restore the backup from itune/ icloud to get the purchased apps and other informations?
I switched iphones today with a friend of mine. I made sure that I had backed up everything to my computer AND iCloud before doing the trade. Did it, everything set up fine. Restored through iTunes and then turned on. I still had my email, texts, call logs, contacts and notes. But all my apps and songs are gone. How do i get them back?
I inadvertently backed up my iPod Touch 3G which ended up being a blessing because it actually died due to water damage. When I get my new iP4 I want to restore from that iPod Touch backup because it has many apps I use for studying including the settings which I definitely need. Is there a way to restore just the apps? How would/could I restore at least the one app with data that I really need?
I finally updated my iPhone to 5.1. I waited so long because of the fiasco updating my iPod Touch when 5.0 first came out. I thought it worked, I was pleased Apple worked out the bugs. Lo and behold, all of my apps and folders disappeared before my eyes. No problem I thought, I did a back up. Restore from back up. Fifteen minutes later, it looks exactly the same. Isn't a backup supposed to be of everything on the system so that if something goes wrong, you just revert back to the back up and either try again or wait for the process to be fixed? Seriously, get your stuff together.
i restored my iphone4 to factory settings because it was running slow and some apps werent working. My phone is now stuck in repair mode and is continually rebooting itself. I know the usual solution would be to restore via itunes but itunes will not allow me to do anything as i get the error "itunes cannot find disk"
I just got a replacement iphone and restored it from a backup, however, upon trying to sync it again, the 'sync apps' checkbox is not checked. I can see my apps that are greyed out but as soon as I check the box to sync the apps, they all disappear! I haven't synced it since for fear of having to start over every time.
I had faced this issue when i last updated my phone when the 2.1 had come out.. I installed the latest Backup and Restore application as recomended by the SE update site.. Then backed up my files onto an already existing backup (which i think has corrupted the backup), hence overwriting the file.. After that i upgraded to 2.1 and restored my files, which failed because the contacts were not successfully imported (even though the Backup and Restore app said that the import was succesful.)
i was asked to repair the firmware using PC companion and hence want to backup succesfully without any problems. I cant risk loosing my contacts again. And i want to know from others in this forum if they have faced this issue on normal backup (not overwritten on an existing backup). [URL]
iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. I've been getting this message while I tried to restore my phone. How can I be done with that?
My iphone dropped out of my pocket onto a carpeted wood deck floor while sitting in a lawn chair (approximately 15-18 inches). When I went to use it next, it wouldn't turn on. I tried a reset (home button and power button) and got a message to plug it into itunes for a restore.I've tried restoring it probably 25 times. I've made sure all software is up to date on my computer. I've restarted my computer about 10 times. When I try to restore it goes through all the motions and looks like it's going to work but ultimately I get an error message(I've had several different errors: 21, 2006 2001) from itunes that says it could not restore it. The only thing that shows up on my iphone screen is a graphic of a USB cord connecting to itunes.
I´m trying to restore my iPhone 4S 5.1, using iTunes, but I´m not sure if this method will upgrade to 5.1,1 I do not want to upgrade from 5.1 to 5.1.1, anyone knows if can i restore it with out upgrade?
i have used iTunes to restore my iPhone to factory settings as a new iPhone, no backup involved. So, i have plugged in my iPhone to the laptop, i have used the RESTORE button in iTunes and the process started smooth. At the end, the iTunes told me that my iPhone will restart, and it did. After the restart, of course, the configuration of my iPhone was needed. iTunes told me not to unplug my iPhone and to wait until the restart its over. And i did. When iTunes was reconnecting my device, it told me that my SIM has a PIN CODE and i need to enter it so i can proceed with configuration. So i did this step also, i have used my PIN on the device, on my iPHONE the configuration STARTED but iTunes told me that it cannot reconnect with my iPhone and that i should retry later. So i didnt used iTunes to configure, instead i did the configuration directly from the phone.
1. Why didnt iTunes reconnect with my iPhone after i entered PIN?
2. Does it matter if it didnt reconnect, so this way i was forced to do the configuration directly from my iPhone and not in iTunes like it supposed to be done after a restore made in iTunes?
3. What does EXACTLY restore from iTunes do !? And what does this mean, from the HELP iTunes files (red lines). What does it mean by "doesn't erase it?" Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPadUsing iTunes, you can update software on your iPod, or update iOS software on iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad.If you are having problems with your device, you can also use iTunes to reinstall the software and restore your device's default settings.Important: Restoring iOS software on iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad deletes your information, but doesn't erase it. Deleted information can't be accessed through the device's controls, but it remains on your device. To find out more about erasing all content and settings (if, for example, you plan to give your iPhone away), see this article at the Apple Support website.
ShowTo update your software:HideTo restore the software on your iPod , iPhone, or iPad:Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer. When your device appears in the iTunes window (below Devices), select it.Click the Summary button, click Restore, and follow the onscreen instructions. If you're restoring software on your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad, iTunes backs up your device at the start of the process. You can restore your settings from the backup at the end of the restore.
4. Why now, when my iPhone is factory settings with nothing on it, after pluggin to iTunes, my used memory went from 26x MB to 392 MB used?
So used the find my my iPhone app on my ipad to erase the data on my iPhone 4s. so my phone showed the apple logo then a loading bar. When it was complete it showed a loading circle, kinda like the buffering thing on YouTube. And now it's stuck in a loop. I can restart my phone and the data is not erased but after 30 secs it does the loading thing again and stays in a loop. But then I put it in Dfu mode and tried to restore it but iTunes says I don't have permission to download the 7.1.2 firmware.

When I try to sync my iPhone (via USB), I get: > iiTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone "xxxx's iPhone" because contacts have been disabled on the iPhone. How do I fix? I have an iPhone 3Gs running iOS 5.1.1, Lion 10.7.4 running iTunes 10.6.3
I'm trying to sync my iPhone contacts with windows contacts using iTunes. I keep getting the message "iTunes could not sync contacts with iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone." Internet connection is on. They used to sync before and one day they just stopped syncing.
