Obviously the usual jail breaking will occur when it’s released but I'm wondering if anyone has heard of or has proof of built-in mobile hot-spotting with OS 4.0?And if not, could it be one of the things that "won't disappoint" us on June 7th?
I was always using on other phones with Android 2.2 FroYo that 3G mobile hotspot feature, which was included right in the Android system under Wireless Networks settings. Now in Defy there is no option like that under settings in FroYo. Defy includes own app called 3G Mobile Hotspot, which should work like that option for creating mobile WiFi hotspots in other Android phones. But here is the problem. On my older phone with Android 2.2 I could create 3G WiFi hotspot wherever I needed and it worked. But now, with Defy, when I use that application 3G Mobile Hotspot, it writes me error when creating WiFi hotspot "Cannot set up data link, please contact your service provider" I suppose it is something with my carrier (Vodafone_CZ), but when I used 3G WiFi hotspots on older phones (which had that feature included right in Android settings menu) it worked without problems and I a used mobile phone for 3G internet sharing with my laptop. Now I remember, that I have deleted some DUN profile under APN Internet profiles, could it be that problem, that 3G Mobile Hotspot app is not working?how to create WiFi hotspot on my Defy for example with some other app?Or if not, how can I use Internet Tethering in Defy Mobile Networks menu via Bluetooth (my laptot has BT). I dont know, what should I set in my laptot to use Defy like BT 3G Internet provider and I dont know, if Internet Tetherig via BT is not charged at my carrier (I know, that the 3G WiFi hotspot feature was not extra charged..) so for that reason I would like to make it working on my Defy.
My ROM: original 34.179.2.MB525.Retail.en.CEE Android 2.2.2
With Verizon offering mobile hotspot on the Palm PrePlus & I believe Google is including it on their next OS update (2.2) & Sprint including it on the EVO 4G, I'm wondering if Apple & AT&T would keep up by offering it on the new iPhone. The one reason I'd probably say no is the iPad 3G. Just wondering what you guys thought.
I have the original M7 by HTC. My mobile hotspot used to work very well, brilliantly in fact. Ever since updating to Lollipop (5.0.2) I have been unable to keep my hotspot on consistently. Even now, as I am writing this, the hotspot has been turned off by itself (disconnects me from the internet) and I have to turn my phone back on, and switch the hotspot back on.
Is it a setting somewhere I am missing, or do you think it's a bug within lollipop? Is there any other way to get to use the data I pay for as internet through my phone? I have tried doing a hard tether, but I can't find an option to use it as internet (only data transfer.)
I used BB Bold 9900 with Leaked OS 7.1.0.402 (B1333), BIS data & Wireless connections. When I configure Mobile Hotspot on my BB, I always got the message "Cannot start mobile hotspot due to a temporary network problem. how can I setup & configure my mobile hotspot on my device?
My boss and I just bought two BlackBerry Torch 9810's under the impression that these phones had the ability to use the phone as a mobile HotSpot. At this point it appears that this function should be availble in BlackBerry OS 7.1. As far as I can see Sprint has just released this update about 3 days ago.I really need to know when this will be available for ATT Wireless, as that is our current provider. My boss is already planning on taking his BlackBerry back to ATT within his 30 day period so he can get a Droid that already has this function if we can't get some reassurance that this option is indeed going to become available and soon.I on the other hand, have had my phone for two months, but would rather have a BlackBerry over a Droid any day, but I did have the expectation that I could use the phone as a HotSpot or at least tether over WiFi, or else I may have sucked it up and gotten a Droid (even though I prefer BlackBerry).
I have recently upgraded to the official RIM release of 7.1 from [URL] which means that I'm running 7.1 .0.205. With this I get the Mobile Hotspot functionality, finally! I've configured the APN username and password requested, and created a 16 charactor password for the hotspot itself. I've verified these are correct. Now, whenever I try to enable the Mobile Hotspot, I get a pop up error message that states:"The mobile data network that your device is connected to does not support this feature" with the title "Mobile HotSpot".To complicate matters, I am currently abroad, and hence roaming away from my home network. However, I can confirm that I am able to access the internet on the built in browser and can send and receive emails on the blackberry itself.
On another note, I thought that maybe the problem may be incorrect APN settings, so I tried to access the 'Mobile HotSpot' settings in order to update this, and I get a very unhelpful message that says:'Before Opening Mobile HotSpot Options, go to Manage Connections and turn on Mobile Hotspot'Clearly, I can't do that, so am pretty much stuck. I found that wiping the device allows me to re enter the credentials, and these still do not work. I even tried to add in the APN details of the network that I am roaming onto, and still no luck.

I have just bought a Microsoft Surface table. This does not have a 3G option. One thought is to access 3g via my Blackberry Curve 9300. Many mobiles can be enabled as a hotspot. Is this possible with the 9300?
Just got my unlocked 950, coming from an unlocked 1020. Having some issues getting hotspot working. Mobile hotspot worked fine on 1020 (T-Mobile).
On 950, I can start mobile hotspot and even connect to it from my laptop. It works for about a minute, speedtest shows that I am connecting from a T-Mobile device, and mobile hotspot on the phone shows that there is a laptop connected. But then the connection dies. When I check the phone at that point, hotspot shows that is in "off" state. Attempting to turn it on produces one of these errors:
On first attempt to turn it back on (from within the hotspot app): "Connection not shared. Mobile hotspot isn't currently available."
On subsequent attempts: "Connection not shared. There's no cellular data connection to share right now. Check your cellular settings and signal, and try again".
The pulldown settings menu shows hotspot as turned off. Toggling it does nothing.
Rebooting the phone is the only way to get the hotspot to turn on again. At that point it only works for a minute or so and then dies.
Of course, "Cellular Data" is enabled in settings. I am on a T-Mobile plan and tethering is enabled in my account and worked fine on my 1020 for about a year with that same SIM. Works fine on my Android devices too.
The data usage meter in the system settings did not pick up the usage while in mobile hotspot mode. It missed 2Gb of cloud sync with my ultrabook.
I have searched forums and spoke to a seemingly knowledgeable person at Microsoft store, who told me he had not heard of this problem.
I checked the Windows Feedback app and there are several other reports of the same. Yet, it is not a big trending item in forums. Tracking data when in hotspot should be a primary function.
I noticed yesterday when I went to setup the mobile hotspot password is was already set to a password of "ghill935/", which seems to be a pretty specifically defined password. In phones I have had before, I thought I remembered they were either not assigned...or very random passwords.
My mobile hotspot icon has no image. I just noticed this yesterday after I used my phone as a hotspot but I went through the settings menu. I don't even remember there being an icon in the apps. I can't remove it and when I go into info it says the name is "Settings: and the icon is a gear.
ive got a blackberry bold 9900, that has mobile hotspot, i connect my iPad to the mobile hotspot which is great, however, orange charge me £1 a day to do this, I know a £1 a day seems pennies, but over a month it can add up, is there any other way of connecting?
I will turn on my mobile hotspot on my droid 4 and i will connect it to my motorola XY board tablet, and i will be in the mist of using it when all of the sudden i will lose internet connection on my tablet. I know it is not a problem with my tablet, because when i am at home i will be connected to my home internet and i wont lose connection at all. So i am just wondering if there was a firm ware update for the phone?
I'm running 7.1 on BB 9900 using the O2 (UK) network. Until very recently I'd been successfully using the Mobile Hotspot feature with no problem at all (ipad, laptop etc. - ironically not working with the Playbook but that's another story). In the last week or so I am suddenly no longer even able to switch it on the feature. If I try and select the checkbox box next to Mobile Hotspot I see the spinning wheel (the green circle one sees whenever one first checks any of the network connection boxes), which then just disappears. Any ideas? I'm hoping to avoid the usual Kafkaesque - speak to your operator vs. speak to RIM scenario.
When I selected "Mobile Hotspot" in Manage Connections, it allowed me to set up a password. When I now select if, a tick appears in the box and other devices can 'see' my WPA protected Hotspot, but I get a message showing on the screen saying: "Activation Required. Click Continue to subscribe to a Mobile Hotspot data plan using the browser on your smartphone or on a connected Wi-Fi device". The only option is "OK" (not Continue). If I select OK, then I go back to the Manage Connections screen, with no tick in the Mobile Hotspot box. I am on an Orange UK voice and data plan (orange internet APN).
When i turn on Wi-Fi hotspot on xperia play i800 mobile internet has disappear, there is no any icon H or E or 3G, when i turn off wi-fi hotspot i can to use mobile internet, where my mistake or if this is some bug
Ive been trying to set up the wireless mobile hotspot to work with my laptop. I can get my laptop to connect to the hotspot and authenticate ok but its status never progresses past 'local only' so I have no access to the internet. I cant see anything wrong with my settings either phone or laptop side, and USB tethering works fine.
Since the Ice Cream Sandwich Update, my Jawbone Icon Headset cuts off while my Mobile HotSpot is on. The Jawbone headset will go on and off until I turn off the HotSpot. No one at Motorola can fix the problen.
Has anyone else got Mobile Hotspot to work? I've got an A953 (UK unlocked) and it upgraded to Gingerbread fine, and I can connect to the Internet on the phone. When I start Mobile Hotspot, my laptop can see the phone and connect to it (receive an IP address by DHCP). However I can't connect through the phone to the rest of the Internet.Does it have something to do with me being on T-Mobile USA? Unfortunately I'm not really able to test other options, but it would be good to know if it work successfully for others.
The mobile hotspot on my bionic has poor range. I can have the phone 15 feet away on the charger and only have 1 bar of signal on my laptop. Other phones I have had with this feature have had alot better range. I could go anywhere in my house and have signal. On the bionic I can only go about 15 feet away before I lose signal.
My issue may not be specific to the Moto X 2014, but it's the phone I'm using. I'm able to tether my Moto X to my Dell laptop and use the internet, no problem.
But when I turn on the portable wi-fi hotspot, give it a network name, set security to WPA2 PSK, broadcast channel (either 2.4 or 5 GHz) and give it a password (at least 8 characters), it doesn't work. My laptop connects, but there's no internet data.
Given that I'm able to share my mobile phone data plan with my laptop via a tether, I'm curious as hell to know why the hotspot feature isn't work.
I saw there's a post describing how to enable internet sharing for 1020 but one of the requirement is a foreign SIM card which I don't have.
My 1020 is a Hong Kong version got from eBay and it didn't come with a SIM. I called T-Mobile but they said since it's not from their store, it may not work, they tried to do something on their end but couldn't make it work.
So got the Tmobile 810. Have been using unlocked Nokia phones (Symbian) till now and use JoikuSpot to share internet on as needed basis. Not very often, but good to know it is there when needed.
Now when select Internet Sharing to ON, asks if want to activate that feature in my plan. Is there anyway to bypass this or to get another app to do this .. like JoikuSpot ?
