IPhone :: Manual Backup File To Restore After Jailbreak?
Jan 12, 2010
I have a new iPhone 3GS and the only way to jailbreak is to have it be a tethered jailbreak. I want to jailbreak my phone right now, but I also want the option to restore my iPhone to exactly how it is right now and delete the jailbreak. I sync my Iphone to my MacBook Pro right now. So is there a way I can manually save a backup file to restore my iPhone to how it is right now and reverse the jailbreak? I know after I jailbreak it will automatically erase the current backup and replace it with one that has Blackra1n or whatever on it.
Sorry if this has already been asked. I am an iPhone newbie from the Blackberry world and AT&T.
I have located the backup files on my PC, which is under some geberrish file name in my hard drive. I have two backup files, one from 1 week ago, one from this week. How can I choose to restore from the file that I backed up a week ago?
I tried plugging the phone in and go through itunes, but itune only gave me the option to restore from the backup file from this week (which is no good because the new backup file has nothing in it for some reason, 0MB of file ).
I'm trying to restore my new 4s (16g) to my backup, but it will not sync with iTunes, shows I have too much "other" taking up memory and I can't change the settings. Can't restore from backup due to corrupt file??
I've tried soft reset, restarting my computer, restoring the iPhone...exhausted and tired. Ready to return it.
Apple really screwed me up! Did an update to iOS 8.1.2, got stuck in the white restart screen. Recovered the phone via DFU for like 6 times to get the phone start up correctly in factory settings only to find I am unable to restore my backup due to "corrupt backup or incompatible device"!
How can I recover my backup to my iPhone 6?? I really need the photos and messages...
Recently i have updated my device software to 2.3 ..then i cant find icon for backup and restore on my home screen for restoring the backup file... how can do i restore the backup file ?
I touched restore all factory settings and now I don't have any contact. I need them. I have installed Ovi Suite and I went to the restore tab menu but there it said you don't have .nbu backup.
It says my iphone backup file was corrupted and I was asked to delete my backup file.where could I find the backup file to delete? I've searched everywhere and I couldnt find it.
my phone tried to upgrade to 5.0 OTA today and it got all messed up. Long story short, it auto reverted back to 4.7, but a bunch of my settings were changed, and the very annoying problem of my BBM Group calendar being my default returned, so I decided to wipe the handheld entirely. Before I did so, I created a backup file using Desktop Manager in case anything went wrong.
So I wiped the phone, upgraded to 5.0 via DM, and then re-configured all my settings, 3rd party apps, etc. The only things I am missing now are my memos and task list items, which are contained in the aforementioned backup file. I'm afraid to do a complete restore on my phone using this file because some settings I don't want may get restored...so is there a way to just restore the memo and task list data contained in the backup file to my phone? I messed around w/ DM a little bit and wasn't able to figure it out, but then again I don't use DM too often, so I'm hoping you guys know something I don't.
I have a new 9810 and have the old backups for the 9800. A great deal of information. I did find a way to look at some of the info in the backup but would like to some how just use the backup .ipd file to dump into the new machine.
Recently I changed phone from sony x8 to Samsung Galaxy min, but before I changed phone, I did backup for all contacts, apps, etc.The backup file from Sony X8 is .sbf file and cannot restore into Samsung Galaxy mini even though both phone are Android.or can I download software that runs .sbf file on my computer to get all contacts?
I went to the Verizon place a couple of days ago to see if they could get my phone to stop freezing and running slow. Well they accidentally deleted over half my pictures and my phone is the only place I have those pictures. Well luckily, I thought, I have a backup file and my pictures will be on there. But whenever I try to run it I get the error "data not recognized by desktop!" Some of these pictures are really really important to me and I want them back. Is there anything I can do to make the backup file work? Will it even contain the pictures? I have a blackberry storm and the verizon place said I have the most updated software.
i have got an iphone 3g and when i got it it was jailbroken so i went to restore it but it failed now it says i need to plug it into itunes all the time. what do i do?
Everyone keeps saying that doing a restore removes the jailbreak, making a jailbreak undetectable. That seems to only be partially true.I had 3.1.2 jailbroken and used LockDown-App to protect mail/sms and the like with another, if tiny protection so I could hand out my phone knowing not everyone could read my mail and stuff.
However, that eventually also caused me to have to restore and when I realized there's a JB for 3.1.3 (spirit), I decided: What the heck.I restored to 3.1.3 and because my backup was corrupt, had to set up as new.I jailbroke with spirit and haven't installed LockDown again, because it kept crashing on me.
Today I SSH'd into my phone and to my surprise, I found remnants of the LockDown App still being there, directories and files. So, unless there's something else I should have done before or while restoring, the simple act of restoring as new does NOT seem to entirely remove all traces of a jailbreak. In theory, Apple could jailbreak allegedly bricked phones and so find traces of previous jailbreaking. Cause for concern?
I want to restore my phone, it has been jailbroke for a few weeks but i want to return it to its original state as im selling it, when i connect to itunes and click on restore i get this message? how do i get my phone back? its now stuck on dfu mode?
I am a perfectionist, and I am curious. Once, a little while ago, I jailbroke my iPhone 3G (somewhere in de OS 3 saga). I was quite surprised by some new features and I kept the jailbreak for a while. So I got texted, my call history extended et cetera.
But for some reason I wanted to get back to Apples pure, not modded, OS. But I still wanted to have my SMS history and Call History et cetera. On quite a few forums I read about an easy DFU mode and restore with the latest backup I made within iTunes. Written at those forums was that no jailbreak data was backupped in iTunes. Of course, this was a normal backup in iTunes, but from a jailbroken iPhone. I did my restore and my iPhone worked quite well. In fact it still does perfectly, with all histories and logs, in iOS 4.0.1.
But my question is: is there still some data in my iPhone right now from when it was jailbroken, tranfered with a backup created when it was jailbroken? In other words: does a jailbreak affect/harm a usual iPhone backup in iTunes in any way?
So, do I still walk around with some weird strings in my iPhone, or some 0's and 1's in some file?
I have updated my iPhone 4 to 5.1.1 and I can't restore my backup files because when I try to restore my backup iTunes shows that the backup is corrupted or not compatible with the iPhone
When setting up my new iPhone 4s, should I restore from icloud or itunes backup? Or set up as a new iPhone? The phone number is staying the same from my iPhone 4.
I have lost ~20 pictures I took during my family's 4th of July event this weekend. It was the first time they have met my 17 month old daughter. Normally I wouldn't sweat loosing pictures, but these are very important to me.It restored every picture up until the backup I did before I left Sunday morning. I have tried A few different backups, one I made before I erased and synced my phone(new computer, old one was my work computer, no access to it).
I'm planning to restore my iPhone while updating to iOS 4 since I've bee using the same old backup for 3 years or so now, installed a bunch of thing etc... so I want to start from scratch.
The only thing I don't want to lose are my SMS.I also don't want to jailbreak my iPhone. What are the solution to backup only my SMS (so not regular iTunes backup) and then restore that only to my freshly installed iOS4?
I finally updated my iPhone to 5.1. I waited so long because of the fiasco updating my iPod Touch when 5.0 first came out. I thought it worked, I was pleased Apple worked out the bugs. Lo and behold, all of my apps and folders disappeared before my eyes. No problem I thought, I did a back up. Restore from back up. Fifteen minutes later, it looks exactly the same. Isn't a backup supposed to be of everything on the system so that if something goes wrong, you just revert back to the back up and either try again or wait for the process to be fixed? Seriously, get your stuff together.
if I restore factory setting to my iPhone, is it still possible to restore the backup from itune/ icloud to get the purchased apps and other informations?
I just updated to iOS 5.1.1 on my 3GS phone, previously using 5.0, while plugged into the computer and iTunes 10.6.3. I had the phone set to backup to iCloud, and ran a sync operation before updating.Does that not also create a backup? When the restore process began, it asked if I wanted to set up as a new phone or restore from backup. However the list of available backups did not have anything from today. The last one listed was from October 2011.So I cancelled that operation, went through the new phone setup and then it asked if I wanted to restore from iCloud. So I chose the most recent iCloud backup which was from around 6 AM this morning. Now it is in the process of downloading all my apps, pics, and perhaps music as well. I don't know but it's going to take HOURS to finish this.
Anyway I opened some apps that have already downloaded, and some app data appears to be intact. But other apps have nothing after October 2011. And I'm talking apps that have tracked my fitness and workout progress over the past 6 months, bike rides in the past few months, car fuel fillup and maintenance history since October, I'm talking LOTS of data that appears to be gone. What did I do wrong here? Did I not do what I should have done regarding backups? What is the point of backing up to iCloud if it's not going to back up all my app data?
I have been using my iPhone 4 as an iPod for a while because I'm waiting for AT&T to unlock it. I wanted to restore my phone to backup in my computer, but the restore button only restored my phone to factory settings, and it now tells me to activate the phone but I don't have the original SIM. Is there a way to restore to backup without activating the phone?
My 'backup and restore' app won't back up my text messages... it backs up the other things on the list for example the contacts, call logs, brower history etc. I would like to save the messages before I update my phone.Or unless there is another way of saving my messages, i.e. saving them onto a pc or something.I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro.
Anyone know how to convert Iphone backup files to blackberry format ? I don't think we can use desktop manager or this, anyone know of any utility that does this ?
I had faced this issue when i last updated my phone when the 2.1 had come out.. I installed the latest Backup and Restore application as recomended by the SE update site.. Then backed up my files onto an already existing backup (which i think has corrupted the backup), hence overwriting the file.. After that i upgraded to 2.1 and restored my files, which failed because the contacts were not successfully imported (even though the Backup and Restore app said that the import was succesful.)
i was asked to repair the firmware using PC companion and hence want to backup succesfully without any problems. I cant risk loosing my contacts again. And i want to know from others in this forum if they have faced this issue on normal backup (not overwritten on an existing backup). [URL]
