I am using a new sim in the 3Gs but the registered phone number on the device details remains the same so when you use imessaging it displays the old phone number. How do I change this?

How do u change the registered phone number on iMessage on iPhone? It still shows old number even after a reset and the number is grayed out. I have waited for the change to happen (imessage off), but it still didn't change. I pulled the sim out and waited, but still no change. I am using an iphone 4s and OS 5.1.

when I open the phone pad , by mistake sometimes press on voicemail icon , and this happen also when I was aboard , so that will cost too much money calling the voicemail provider.
Im searching a way to remove the voicemail number from my iphone so if by mistake I press the voicemail icon it will not make a call. so either a way to change the voicemail ( dialing number ) or a way to stop this icon dialing my provider.

I'm posting on behalf of my girlfriend who recently had her number changed on her iPhone 4s. She did this through her service provider (o2) and the whole process seemed quick and stress free. After only a couple of hours and a restart of the phone the number had changed successfully, but now she is not able to send any text messages. She can recieve messages (including Whatsapp messages etc) and has no problem with incoming or outgoing calls with the new number so we are a bit miffed as to what the problem could be?
