IPhone :: Help Me Help Apple Debug IOS4 Audio Issues
Jul 9, 2010
I've been working with Apple developer support on a suite of potential issues related to sounds (audio cues) that seem to be flaky in iOS4. These issues are noticed by me on my IP4 but may also be occurring on other devices running iOS4.Here are some threads that have reported some of the issues I'm speaking of:Mail sounds broken Volume issues Weird lock sounds And there are several others. The defect I have open with Apple is specific to another issue which may be related: Audio cues (lock sounds, keyboard clicks) just seem to go away and stop working from time to time regardless of the use (or not) of the vibrate switch. Once they go away, somethings it takes multiple reboots to get them back. I have two working hypotheses I'd like help validating:
1) The problem comes from 3rd party apps that are using the new background audio capabilities in iOS4. Specifically, once an app such as Pandora or Wunderradio has been paused or placed in background mode, you may lose these audio cues. I'd like others to experiment with this specific scenario - Verify your lock sound is working, run some background audio app (Wunderradio seems particularly prone to causing this), pause it, exit via home button. Re-select the app from the app switch dock, exit again, etc. At any time do you lose the lock sound or keyboard clicks?
2) The OS is getting confused on the state of the vibrate switch. There are a number of scenarios here based on position of the physical switch and options selected in Settings. It seems to me that I've had cases where no background audio was involved (scenario 1 above) and still lost audio cues. I think this happens when you're changing the position of the physical switch often. Example. Switch in the up position (sound on) and everything is fine. Switch is moved down to vibrate mode and sounds go away as they should. Then put switch back up and you get no sound. Not just audio cues but sound from 3rd party apps too. Anyone else seeing this behavior?
is the current ios4 that apple released the shipping version or will there be another gm coming by the end of this week. I'm confused because the last one released was a candidate.
I am not sure this is the right place to ask on GM iOS4, I would like to upgrade Gold Master iOS4 to mine 3GS right now and when it released the official firmware for public on 21st June, would I have any problem to upgrade from GM version?
Was just wondering what the best way to upgrade from the iOS4 GM to the official iOS4 release. Would I be better off doing a backup of my iOS4, restoring my iPhone to iPhone OS 3 and then going back to the official iOS4 or do you think we will be able to straight from the GM to the official version of iOS 4. Or is the iOS4 GM identical to the official iOS 4 release?
Will iTunes know that the official release is newer than the gold master release? I assume its not out yet as iTunes keeps saying "4.0 is the latest release" So what will happen when its out?
Yesterday I changed my Apple ID Password. Since then when I try to make a FaceTime Audio call from my iPad or my iMac it get a Call Failed Using iPhone message. Â
My iPad sees my iPhone as far as using the Hotspot and FaceTime has my phone number listed as the one to use. Â
How does one get access to the debug/engineering screens on a Hero/G1/MyTouch3G? I want to be able to see tower/phone info and such. I've searched to no avail.
I recently got a lapdock for my Atrix. After using firefox for 10+ minutes the webtop freezes: the cursor is non-responsive and no response from key presses either. The frozen cursor occurs for both the touchpad and when a mouse is connected. How should I debug this problem? I am on the stock 4.5.141 build and rooted (to install Swype). No other root related changes.I am using the incipio feather case. When I undock the frozen webtop the phone is working fine. I can dock again to get a working webtop...not an ideal solution though.
An earlier post implied that 3.1 has a setting for uastring, and that about:debug is no longer needed.
I haven't been able to locate any uastring settings in browser settings or system configuration.
uastring still works, but has to be reapplied if the browser is closed, same as 3.0.1. A post elsewhere had indicated that the settings would persist until reboot.
Is there anyway to make this a permanent setting? If i close out the browser i have to go back into debug settings and do it all over again. Will this be addressed in the next software update whenever that will be (sd card?).
Recently I attended a conference and recorded the audio on my iPhone3. I want to transpose the information to a document without the agony of typing every word. Is there an app for this purpose?
This problem started recently. My bluetooth headset connects, and can trigger the call to be answered, but the iPhone doesn't use it as the audio source. In fact, the button that normally selects the sources, now shows only the speaker icon (and toggles speakerphone).
After updating to 5.1, it seemed to be fixed -- that same button again let me choose the audio source. That was yesterday, but today when I answered a call, it didn't go to the headset, and the source button again shows only the speaker icon.
The iPhone answers the call when I press the button on the headset. It's just not seeing any audio source.
I've powered on & off, not fixing the problem. I can't poinpoint the start of the trouble exactly -- it seemed to simply work one day and not work the next. I honestly don't remember if it coincided with updating to 5.01.
I have audio through the headset or speakerphone with no issue but none through the handset. Did a battery pull but that did not resolve the issue. I also just upgraded to Rogers OS 5.0.0.743 not sure if this is what caused the problem.
Came from LG G4 that didn't have these issues with the same apps.
Sometimes the audio will work fine (notice this more when I'm on WiFi) but sometimes, in all apps (snapchat, facebook, regular gallery view) the video will play but the audio will cut in and out.
Not sure what it is. Phone is rooted (systemless) and is running the EX Kernel. I didn't mess with the audio settings in the EX Manager...
This is a huge issue for me as I spend a lot of time on Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube (I'm a vlogger, etc.).
I dont know what happend... but now I no longer have MMS? The little camera icon/button to attach a picture is not there anymore..anyone help please? is ATT now charging MMS or am i missing somthing.
I just did a complete restore and JB and unlock using ultrasnow. Phone and data work but SMS and MMS does not. Is there something I need to do in order to get it to work
I've had two Razr's behave the same, whenever audio plays, especially using the headphone jack and external speakers, one can hear an audiable click or pop just before and after the audio plays. This happens with Pandora, Rhapsody, and Google Navigator. I haven't tested other audio based apps yet.Verizon and Motorola say they've not heard of this issue, so I'm wondering how many other Razr owners have noticed this pop? Hearing such noises as the audio turns on and off is not acceptable quality for a Motorola branded phone.I don't know enough about how the Android OS works, but I'm thinking there are two possible causes. First, as different apps access the audio hardware the internal electronics of the phone produce an audible pop as the circuits power up and down. Alternatively, the Android OS may be probing the headpone jack trying to determine if it's connected to external speakers. I've noticed that the pop gets louder as the phone approaches 100% charge.
With a 90% charge or better I've even had the audio output go quiet if the headset cable is moved, even though the audio application shows audio is playing. I know that removing the headset cable will pause the player, but in this case hitting play starts the player and it shows progress, but no audio is heard.
I've been using my Moto Droid, running Android 2.2.2 for some time now. Up until recently, I've been able to use it to listen to Pandora and mp3s loaded onto the phone. Now, any time I plug a set of headphones into the audio jack, the audio is really distorted. It sounds like a channel is out or something, and this happens across all volume levels. It pretty much sounds like you're listening to music underwater. Doesn't matter if it's streaming adio through Pandora or mp3 audio. When I unplug the headset (any headset, mind you) and go to external speaker, the audio is fine.
I am planning on JailBreaking my 3GS before I sell it, and I am wondering how stable the JB is for the current 3.1.3 for my 3GS, also how stable is the JB for iOS4 because I seem to be reading about a lot of ppl having issues with Cydia and JB with Spirit? Is there even a JB for iOS4? and will the new i4 have one soon after it's release?
One thing, among other things, that I think is missing is the ability to type in different font types....such as bold, italic...then times new roman, helvetica, comic sans, etc. With how powerful the iPhone is, don't you think it should be an option? I really don't think that is material for iOS5, but just as an extension of iOS4. Post what other things are missing....widgets, whatever...
I have a 16gb Iphone 3g.I went to radio shack and the guy told me that I shouldnt get the update. He said my phone will run CRAZY slow.Is this true?I dont plan to get the os4 gm out now but the one apple releases on monday.Should I do it?Also, my provider is AT&T, I thought about jail breaking the phone but everyone seems to say not to since well, I have at&t. Would you guys do it?
Obviously multi-tasking is out, and I'm hearing to wallpapers on the homescreen. What things CAN the 3g do, for those of you who have had iOS4 for awhile? I have searched the internet for a little and most just found 'iPhone 3G will not have all features", which isn't very specific.
Got my new iphone 4 and i am ready to sell my 3gs. Its running on the new ios4 should i sell as is or wait for an unlock and then sell. I dont wanna get scammed either so need some advice.
I was wondering if anyone else is getting this bug. My iPhone gets into a state where in the Photos app, I am unable to change the screen orientation to landscape. This is only in the Photos app - Safari continues to work just fine on this front.
The only way I have found to resolve the issue is the restart the phone, and then it works again.
This is not the first bug I've found in Photos in iOS4/iPhone 4 the library can be slow to update, sometimes requiring me to close and reopen the app.
I have a 3GS, running iOS4. It has never been 'jailbroken' before. My model number is MC131B.I have iTunes 9.2.I have a MacBook Pro.Can I jailbreak my iPhone?
Has anyone noticed their phone freezing more than usual on iOS4? I upgraded my 3GS to iOS4 a few days after it was released and since then is has frozen and needed a hard-reset 4 times. I only ever had to do that once with in the whole year of owning it until I updated.
I may be missing something very basic here, but myself and two mates have just upgraded to iOS4. I am able to create folders, but for some reason I cannot multitask at all, and my friends cameras now work much faster than mine, which has stayed at the speed it always was. The upgrade to version 4.0 has only given me the ability to create folders, and absolutely nothing else.
