View 5 RepliesSo I've been tooling around with iOS4, and unfortunately one of the features I use the most appears to be missing. You can't customize the behavior of the home button anymore in Settings, and as such you can't set it to do things like open phone favorites, open the camera or open the iPod controls. This is kind of a downer since I used to use the double-tap for phone favorites all the time.
I know that previous reports about iOS4 said you could double-tap and hold to bring up phone favorites but that's not working anymore, it seems.
- Holding the home button brings up voice control.
- Double-tapping brings up the multitasking/recent apps bar along the bottom.
- Double-tapping and holding does nothing.
- Triple-tapping does nothing.
- Triple-tapping and holding brings up voice control.
Ok, so now our options for double clicking the home button are Home, Search, Favorites, Camera, iPod, and now multitasking??? 6 options? And if we DON'T want to use double click to go to multitasking what happens... we just lose multitasking all together? Many people have gotten used to and like being able to use the double click for our favorites or for the camera... and now we need to ditch that if we want to use the most desired feature of 4.0??? really? I mean, REALLY? It just seems like a pretty clunky afterthought to throw another double click option at us. Surely apple could have implemented something nicer.
Personally I think for multitasking they should use some sort of 3 finger gesture. Either a 3 finger swipe up (and keep the dock-like implementation apple chose) or a 3 finger zoom out (which would then zoom out to showing all active apps at once. imagine the tabs view in mobile safari.Additionally I think apple should add a dedicated camera button. That would solve the other double home button issue and this would make the iphone much more usable as a camera.
I don't know if this is a new setting or not, but I just stumbled across it.In Settings >>> General >>> Accessibilty..All the way at the bottom you can customize a triple click shortcut. One of them being a white/black toggle that reverses the color scheme on the phone.Seems pretty un-Apple like. The look it produces makes it look like it was jailbroken!

Short version: How do I "unfreeze" the iPod controls on an iPhone (or iPod classic) when it is plugged into an accessory? The accessory is an Alpine car stereo, though I have seen the controls freeze on boom-box type accessories too.
Long version:
My car has a nice aftermarket Alpine stereo with an iPod connector plug, so I can plug in my iPod and my iPhone in the glove compartment. Sadly, when the iPod/iPhone is plugged in, the screen says "accessory connected" and it doesn't allow me any access to the controls. This is bad. This is bad because the stereo's alphanumeric display shows only 8 characters, and the knob you turn to select things can only go about two clicks per second, meaning it takes about a million years to scroll through any list of songs or artists or playlists. If I did feel the temptation to switch songs while driving (and I'm not saying I do that, it is most often the passenger or I am at a red light) the iPod/iPhone's own controls would be much, much faster and safer than the Alpine's knob and 8-character display.
Even more hilariously, the iPhone has frozen iPod controls (you click the iPod app and it says "accessory connected"), but everything else about the iPhone is accessible. If this was a safety feature, then 1) I would hope the new controls would be safer than the overridden and frozen controls, whereas the new controls are actually much more dangerous and distracting; and 2) It seems pretty unsafe to be able to browse the internet and use the maps app, which are both fully functional while the iPhone is plugged into the car stereo. So yeah, how do I unfreeze the controls? Will jailbreaking do it? Or do I need to jailbreak and then do.
When I'm listening to music, or more likely a book on my iPhone, I double press the home button to show the basic music controls forward, back, play or pause. Way to often I go to hit pause and accidentally hit one of the other very nearby buttons like skip forward or skip backward. When listening to a book chapter that is 40 minutes long and having no clue where I'm at in the chapter, this can be super annoying. So - is there any way to customize and separate these buttons so that they're not so close to each other? My fingers aren't that fat, the touch separation between these buttons must be about a millimeter. Totally frustrating to lose your place like that. Would be cool if they were far enough away that I could hit the button I want without looking at the phone, or at least the play/pause button was much larger.is there an app that can change these controls, or a way to make a request to Apple?

Is there anyway to remove or change the language button when you bring up the keypad? i find it very annoying and unnecessary being there !! always bumping it and changing the language.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just went from the 8310 to the 9700 and right off noticed that I can no longer hold the talk button and pull up the address book while in the recent call list. From the home screen you can hold the talk button for a couple of seconds and it pulls up the address book but if you just tap the talk button it opens the recent call list. If you hold the talk button from there it tries calling the last number. Anyone know if I can change this to be like the 83xx?

But now I can't seem to bring up the vkeyboard on the home screen to allow me to enter the code. All the instructions say to open the menu and select "show VK" but that's not showing in the menu. Also, I mapped it to a side key and it brings it up everywhere BUT the home screen. Did rim disable this ability?

I purchased the the iPhone 5C today 12/06/2014.
To activate triple-click home. in settings-general-accessibility there is suppose to be a setting for triple-click home. No such settings. what do I need to do so that triple-click home is in settings?
I have spent a lot of time surfing the internet. I can find sites that tell you how to enable it. I have found nothing when looking for anything about the missing setting.Â
I chose basic because I do not see a category for triple-click home would be.Â

I am very new to apple, never been a big fan but I could not rap my head around the droid OS. So in my sweep through the settings menu to get acquainted with the settings I discovered the triple-Click home options, and after messing with them I found that I had a use for all the settings so my natural instinct is to just try the ask setting. And to my dismay I find that AssistiveTouch is not a selection, so here I find myself asking this question...

My buttons seemed to have stopped working properly. In order to adjust the volume using the side button, I have to shut down the phone and then restart it. It will work for a while and then stops working and I have to go thru the process again. The home button just works whenever it wants. It doesn't fix the problem when I restart the phone. I can slide my finger in a circle around the button and it still doesn't work.

View 2 Replies View Relatedhave had my iphone for almost 1 and a half years, and about 8 months ago my home button started wrecking; i would press it and it would either not open the iphone (take it off sleep mode to show lock screen) or the button would get stuck in and would start the voice control.. then about one week ago my vibrate button wasnt vibrating, even when i got a call or message or alarm... around one year ago, my camera started wrecking; like i would go into it and it would be blurry, and over the past year it has been getting worse and worse, and now i cant use my back camera at all.

A friend of mine has the iPhone home button as the button he uses to take a picture versus the regular shutter button on the camera app. He has no idea how it was done - as his son set it up. In all my research I cannot figure out how to do it.
