My phone was the unlocked version from Australia Apple store. After I have upgraded to ios 5.1, it seems that my phone became carrier locked.
It has no problem to use my usual 3 sim card. However, when I tried to use the sim cards of Telstra and and Virgin, it just shows "SOS Only".
When I tried these three sim cards in my iPad2, they are all working fine.

My phone was activated and unlocked. I had to run it on blackra1n everytime I connected my phone to the computer. But it was fine. I was able to use an unregistered sim without a data plan. And then I accidentally upgraded.
I’ve tried restoring it with various custom IPSW files from different programs (I’ve even tried 3.1.0, 3.1.1, 3.1.2, and IOS 4) but my phone refuses to restore or restore unlocked. It still keeps asking for a valid sim. Sometimes, iTunes tells me that the “device isn’t eligible for the requested build”. I can’t use redsn0w because no matter what IPSW I try to use with it, it cannot be recognized. Sn0wbreeze did not work either. I’ve tried on both a MAC and a PC.According to forecast, my phone can be jailbroken but not unlocked. Bootloader is 6.4.

In linking to new Playbook, messed up and had to 'start again' with blackberry phone. Messed up also with my old password and after 10 tries it froze. I have gone through password reset process but still blocking me with the message: Your account has been locked. Please try again after the lockout period has expired or call customer service.Any suggestions other than a call to technical desk. I've been researching forums and seems to be the case that lock is indefinite. Incidentally, I didn't see the option after 10 tries to enter word 'blackberry' but it was late at night and frustration had kicked in. Possibly I missed that.

So I didn't realize that in order to upgrade to 4.0 you actually had to have your phone registered with Apple and now I'm stuck with a "We're unable to complete your activation." My phone is completely useless, unless I can figure out a way to downgrade or pay the $99 for the developer account. Is there any way for me to downgrade?

It took 30-40 mins and restarted with 4.0 but below (attachment) is what I see when I connect it. I am looking at this link URL... to jailbrake it - but i did not do what it says as step 2. I just upgraded directly from Itunes - then once it was done I saw iClarified - is it too late? I'm downloading ipsw right now and hoping that I can still jailbrake and unlock?

I cannot send or receive picture messages. I had a similar problem when I first got the phone but I solved it by switching "Cellular Data" ON (did not know b/c it's my first iPhone). I upgraded my iphone 4 from AT&T about 3 weeks ago to 5.1.1 from 5.0.1, I think. It could have been 5.1. I still get texts, everything works perfectly except my phone application!It hardly ever makes phones calls, it dials and connects to the other end both recieving and outgoing, but there is no sound and the speaker phone button is highlighted. The person on the other end has no audio either. It does this for 95% of phone calls, but even the bug is incosistent; every once in a while I can make or recieve a call without a problem. I restored my phone without installing the saved backup several times, problem continues. I'm convinced it's the software upgrade.
