Aug 14, 2010If you apply a screen protector to the iphone screen then later decide to take it off can it remove abit of the oleophobic coating? If not then does the oleophobic coating wear off over time with normal use?

Jun 10, 2010I'm getting my first iPhone and would like advice on protecting the front screen. I have an iPod Touch 2nd gen and even with babying the thing it has a scratch. It is just a tiny one but it is noticeable because the light shines through that spot differently. I really have babied it, keeping it in a case, not putting it in my pocket with other things, etc. I would be extremely upset if the same thing were to happen to my iPhone.
Have the materials improved enough with the iPhone 4 not to have to worry about scratches? If I need to buy a protective film, which one? I really love the smooth feel of the glass on my Touch, is there a protective film that preserves that feel?

Jun 25, 2010Got my phone on the 23rd and dont want to remove the screen and back protector that came with the phone during shipment.
Issues I am having:
1) Screen is all linty from being in my pocket
2) Pictures don't come out to great
3) Can't hear very well when making a call
4) Tobacco leafs get stuck

Jun 24, 2010I purchased an Ifrogz case as well as Ifrogz screen protectors. I just put it on and it definitely makes the screen look worse. Nothing awful but you can definitely tell there's something on it. Should I just go for the Invisible shield or am I just being too crazy about having a shield? Is one really needed?

Jun 26, 2010Just a quick heads up to others buying matte or 'privacy' screen protectors (mine is from PhoneDevil, they're really good quality btw), the ones made for the older iPhones will really dampen the sharpness and pop on the new Retina Displays on the iPhone 4. Also, the cutouts for the speaker and home button just about fit, but the front camera becomes fuzzy because its covered.
I'm willing to sacrifice these for now since I have no one to facetime with and I'm a bit OCD about fingerprints and scratch protection which are dealt with. I'm just hoping a manufacturer produces an updated iPhone 4 version which won't have such a noticeable effect on screen quality. Damn you Apple for your making me accustomise to such an amazing screen so quickly

Jun 8, 2010Now that the new glass is supposed to be incredibly strong and scratch resistant, will you still find yourself getting a screen protector? I don't know about me, i have never really had a scratch problem with my iPod Touch and now if the glass is as strong as they say it is, i doubt it could scratch unless you purposely do it yourself. With that being said i am still nervous leaving the screen unprotected because you can't really remedy the situation if the screen does somehow get scratched. So how about it, will you put a screen protector on your new iPhone 4?

The reason why I only want to cover the actual screen is because I'm getting a SkinIt for it and it covers the back and front but doesn't include the screen to protect, unless I can put a full front clear screen protector plus add the skinit for around the non screen area? Aug 27, 2010my friend told me the iKlear I was using the clean my phone removes an "oleophobic coating" (which I have never heard of before) on the screen. Is this true? If it is, don't you think should say in big red letters "DO NOT CLEAN SCREEN"? Or maybe, iKlear shouldn't advertise a product that can damage an iPhone 4 as "iPhone safe". I got the really expensive user-damage Best Buy warranty because I have had horrible luck with my iPhone and iPhone 3g (take amazing care of them, no scratches or anything, but I drop it once after a couple of months of proud ownership and it shatters everyone else seems to have super phones because they can drop it repeatedly with no problem).so if the oleophobic coating was taken off I just need to pay a $10 restocking fee to get a new one. Is there any way I can tell if it was taken off? It does finger print, but it's not like it didn't before I cleaned it.

Jun 17, 2010I recently purchased a ZAGG screen protector full body armor for my Milestone. I followed the given instructions and left the phone for a few days for the protector to completely attached itself to my phone. The problem is and im not sure if anyone else noticed but when i turn on my phone. I noticed that the display seems to have that red/orange effect but especially worse on a white background. It seems like a red/orange rainbow crystal effect, like tiny crystallized red dots all over the screen. I decided to leave the phone for a few more days that perhaps it is just the solution but it is still there. So, i removed my ZAGG and replaced with a new spare ZAGG (I bought 2 ZAGG protectors.) and this time, I tried it out WITHOUT any of the solution and still no luck.
I phoned ZAGG customer service and they said that it could be a defective ZAGG product. I am still waiting for the replacement and decided to get another second opinion from another customer service. She mentioned that it could be becuase i put too much solution but I did try it out WITHOUT the solution. So now i wasted 2 ZAGG protectors and no luck. Anybody else here in HF has put on a screen protector on a Milestone having the same effect as mine?

Looks like the guy was talking to Apple on the phone and they're sending him a new one. update on the reception issue from my buddy who has been hitting his head against the wall: Got off the phone with Apple. They're sending me a new one overnight. They said they're aware of the issue, and it has something to do with a missing protective coating on some of the parts. Hopefully it's not a bunch of baloney BTW, Apple has amazing support. Friendly, knowledgeable, professional. They really do take care of you. Every time, in my experience.
