Google Nexus 5 :: How To Integrate Updated System Apps
Mar 10, 2015
Way to integrate updates of system apps into rom? On 5.0.1 you have just simply copy app and lib folder from /data/app to /system/app, but it seems that this isn't work any more.
I've been looking at the APKMirror site and notice there are numerous updated Google apps which appear to be later versions of the stock versions. E.g. there are higher versions to Google Play Store and Google Play Services to which I currently have (Marshmallow 6.0 MRA58N). Am I safe to assume that installing these more recent versions will be of benefit? I also assume it's likely these apps will be updated with the next release of Marshmallow. Lastly would installing these more recent Google apps interfere with future OTA updates?
I made some editions on my system's sound files (like lock and unlock screen sounds) and made it like the "idroid" in Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeroes game but these sounds volumes are really low.The problem here is , nexus 5 doesn't have an option to adjust the system sounds volume unlike samsung galaxy phones which had an option to rise or low the system sounds volume.I tried volume boost app but it rise the whole speaker sounds. Is there any way to adjust the system sounds only ?
I am running a stock image on my N5 with root and need to add an apk into the system partition but the problem is that I have only 4mb left on there and the apk does not fit. Is it possible to resize the partitions and:
Still keep your data and/or Allow for OTA installations down the road?
I need to install an apk to /system/app but my system partition has no free space. Using "df" command in terminal emulator, it says 0.0K free in /system. I have Android 6 DP3 and I've never pushed any file to /system before. Is there any way to extend system partition?
I'm having some difficulty with doing this. Recently, a family member of mine had purchased a stereo system, more specifically, the LG mini hi-fi cm4320. Everything about the system seems to be functional except for USB port to mp3 capability. From the outside, it would appear that this should function the same as if it were a car stereo/radio system with the same USB connection option. Each time I try establish connection with my phone, the system's screen flashes "search/no USB", switching between the two. Is this an issue with my phone or the stereo system itself? In any case, how do I go about correcting it.
I was on 4.4.2 until two days ago when I flashed (for the first time, with success.. I think) to 4.4.3. Of course my bootloader was locked so when I unlocked it I lost my data, even with removing the -w flag in the batch file. Anyhow, here is what I had in my platform tools folder before executing the script to flash:
Notice that I don't have a system image in the directory. While the command prompt was executing, I noticed that it said "unable to find system.img" yet, when all was said and done, my phone rebooted, and it shows me on 4.4.3 now. I'm assuming it was successful because all the features of my phone work and it shows 4.4.3 like everyone else, but I'm still worried that the initial system img file wasn't in the directory. Should I go ahead and make sure ALL the img files (not just bootloader and radio) are in platform tools folder and re-flash again? Luckily I won't lose everything this time since my bootloader is unlocked and I will simply keep -w removed from the batch file.
For instance the typical "tic" touch sound sometimes sound like a "poc" sound or distorted, some other sounds like WhatsApp or Facebook sounds sometimes sound distorted as well or simply don't sound at all. Is it me or what?
A buddy of mine is getting a notifiaction for Android System Update. When he selects to install, It says it will reboot and install updates, but when it reboots it goes in to Team Win Recovery Projest mode (TWRP) as he had rooted his phone. After it goes to recovery mode he manually selected reboot and it does not start to update and the notification is not to be seen again. But after 2-3 hours it comes back again asking to update. Let me know how to diable the phone going into recovey mode or how to update in recovery mode if there is way to do it???? This has been happening from past 2 days.
Are those two directories accessible without root? Yesterday I noticed that in any file manager both of those seem to be empty or in the FX File Explorer it was "Access was denied". I'm on stock 6.0
I've got a stock unrooted Nexus 5. yesterday I updated to 5.1 and now its showing me a PIN Lock Screen (PLS). I did not use a PLS before the 5.1 update and I've never set up a PIN. Now I can't get in! I enter a random PIN and it says "Wrong PIN". I tried using Android Device Manager and I logged in and it found my phone. Then I followed the instructions and hit Lock and entered in a new PIN and it said "Since Google has already verified that a lock screen is already set, the password you entered won't be needed". What?!. What does this mean? How can I get back in without erasing all my data?
I just flashed the factory image for 6.0.1. I finished updating everything but I feel like my play store isnt right. Please find the image attached. I can't see the banners that I used to see before. Banners for best games of 2015 and all that.
One fine day, my nexus 5 started hanging up while booting. After the google Logo, the Marshmallow animation would show up and then it would hang and power off. I have no problem in doing a factory reset/wipe of my phone. But the only thing i want to save is my contacts. I have tried erasing and re-flashing system, cache, boot and boot-loader. Using ADB, flashing the cache always fails........
However, i have not touched userdata as i think it would affect the contacts too. I have even tried using different custom recoveries such as CWM, TWRP and even Philz Touch to use adb to pull my SD card files to my PC. Even flashing the system is not working now.... (atleast that's what my results were) .
Philz touch error messages....
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_install E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_install
I tried Lollipop for a loooong time and now I'm sick and tired. I downgraded to 4.4.4 but I have a persistent notification in the status bar saying that the new system update to android 5.0.1 is available. But I don't want it!
Is there a way to disable that notification? It is very anoying. I tried to download FOTAkill.apk and put it in system/apps with rw--r-r- permissions but doesn't work. I know that the simplest solution is to install a custom rom but I am very happy with stock rooted + xposed + modules.
After rooting device (not my first time, but my first time with my nexus 6 which was a virgin) I tried installing a custom font. I downloaded it and tried installing "X" font and said my system storage was full. I tried clearing some stuff but failed. I thought it was an error so i downloaded a new app and failed too.
I verified if my phone was rooted and it is. Later I decided that I wasn't in need of a custom font so I left it at peace, but I remembered about Xposed framework and want it to install it just for the modules , but failed terribly after showing me a message that said "not enough storage space." Broke my heart. I unrooted and OEM locked my phone and re-rooted to no avail. Still the same ol' problem.
When in the root process, I remember while booting into custom recovery temporarily I saw this new message (I had never seen before) that said Something about the system partition to set it to read only for future OTA's processes and I left it untouched.
Also I checked on Titanium back up and other apps. Cache: 256mb-------------- 13.4mb used, 242mb free---Good System: 2GB ---------------------2GB used, about 300KB free---Bad Data (userdata) 26.5Gb----2.5GB used, 24.1GB free---Good Ram---- who cares. Its ok.
I want to have space to install Xposed, all these fonts and stuff. How can I free space or somehow to let my phone now there's more space or idk something.
I brought my nexus 5 for almost a year now. yesterday, i was charging my phone via a PC and after disconnecting it from the PC it just started to heatup near the camera area. It became so hot that I was not able to keep in my pocket. Then I tried opening up the dailer to call my friend but it just showed "Process system isn't responding do you want to close it?"
THEN I tried several other apps and these showed up: unfortunately, MTP app stopped
unfortunately, Media Storage has stopped
unfortunately, Settings has stopped
unfortunately, Google play services has stopped
then I tried factory reset but not improvement. during the signin page in the beginning it said Google account manager stopped working, then again process system isn't responding. I tried factory imaging from 4.4.4 kitkat to 5 lollipop. No improvement.
I believe there are some corrupted files that might have updated automatically. i dont want to pay $200 and wait for 3 weeks to get it fixed
Since lollipop my custom ringtone has been replaced by a system sound. I checked settings and my custom ringtone is still selected. But it doesn't work.
Like the title says I can't write anything new into my rooted N5's system where it says system is out of space or something like that... I can copy files of KB sizes but not MBs... I have V4A libs and SuperSU in the system and now been trying to put in avast antitheft which is not working... This also happened when I tried to install xposed... BTW mine is stock lmy48i rooted with elemental x... Now I had to delete Google books just to install the antitheft!
I flashed Android 6.0 to my Nexus5 and rooted it with NRT. I can't copy a new hosts file to /system/etc because there is to less space. df shows in fact just 4k of free space.
Well I'm back at it again. Always had a problem of phone shutting off and entering qhdbootloader 9008 (however it goes) and I just run the boarddiag tool but this time its not that far. Well whenever it does that I also have to reflash system but now when I try to flash a rom, it gets to the installing system part in twrp and hangs, then reboots at the google logo until I enter recovery again. Aka I cant flash a rom, hangs and reboots at the installing system portion
I am currently running PureNexus and I do like it quite a bit. However, with Android Pay only working on systemless root (which is full of bugs) I am thinking about going back to stock.
My question is, can I install the stock rom, root, remove bloat system apps that I don't want, and unroot?
Any way for me to stay on PureNexus and keep Android Pay working that would be ideal as I am getting fantastic battery life. I am a light to moderate user and I usually have 50-60% battery left at the end of the day.
Is there a way to see which app were updated by the system? My S5 is set to automatically update all apps. Yesterday, Jan 12 2015 some apps were automatically updated by my phone. Since then, the phone is overheating and does not appear to charge (wireless) at a normal speed...If I could figure out which apps were updated when, then I could either roll back the update or remove the apps.

I have Google Nexus 6 mobile. For my smartphone I frequently getting android system update of 30.1 MB. When I try update, while updating it fails and shows error. This occurs for the same update for more than 30 times. after some time my mobile restarts.
Is there any way to increase the usable internal memory by reducing the size of the system partition (if you use a very lightweight ROM and GApps) and add it to the emulated storage?
I am running stock 5.1.1 on my Nexus 5, and have recently noticed reduced battery life. When running Quick System Info PRO, I see that "system_server - BluetoothPhoneService" is constantly consuming anywhere from 15-60% cpu, usually 20-30%. I have tried restoring all the Google factory ROMs one by one, starting with 5.0 (LRX21O) up to 5.1.1 (LMY48I), yet the issue persists. Toggling Bluetooth doesn't work and Bluetooth functions normally when needed, but is usually kept off.
today I installed the new android 6.0 factory image, rooted it (used the modified boot.img from the previous build) and installed supersu 2.52 and blu spark kernel. Everything good until i deleted some apps (gmail, webview, youtube and other NON CRITICAL apps, like I ALWAY DO SINCE KITKAT), then rebooted and my phone is stuck at the Google logo, not even the bootanimation shows up.. Tried to reflash the boot.img, wipe cache, wipe data, factory reset but nothing.. The only thing that worked is to reflash the factory image! What am I doing wrong? Happened 2 times in a row so something must be wrong.. Another thing, I can't access TWRP every time, sometimes it skips and boots directly..
I got an apk file of the new Google Now Launcher which is an official launcher by Google and I couldn't find how to hide useless apps which cannot be uninstalled.
Is there a way to hide them? I thought I should post here if the Nexus 5 users know how to do it.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus GT-I9105. It's not rooted and I never will.
