I just bought a Nexus 5 a week ago, its not rooted and runs Lollipop 5.1. After I've setup everything, I noticed whenever I turn off WiFi or leave the range of my WiFi, the cellular data doesn't kick in automatically, simply displays an exclamation mark on the network icon. I need to go into settings and tap on the access point in order to have the cellular data started. It's been very inconvenient.
View 2 RepliesI have a Google Nexus 5 and it's hooked up through Straight Talk's AT&T towers. Yesterday my phone randomly stopped being able to use its 4G, so even though it shows that I have full bars I can't connect to the internet using my data AND it seems as though I'm not receiving text messages. When I try to make normal calls, an automated voice tells me that something has been "deactivated".
I haven't reached my data use limit yet (not even by half!), my bill for this month is already long since paid, and I haven't downloaded/done anything that seems like it could have led to this. I've tried a couple of other fix-it methods but non seem to work.
I am using Nexus5 (Android 5.1). Actually, my network provider has charged me for cellular data usage which I never did. In-fact, I haven't subscribed to any data pack and was charged heavily. I always use internet through WiFi.
My data usage widget is displaying 0B data usage, but my network operator is insisting that the data has been used by the device.
I want to understand if this issue is really due to my device.I see different cellular network icons on my device :-
- Exclamation mark in cellular network when WiFi is disabled (I never enable cellular data)
- R sign in cellular network (cellular data is disabled and i am not in roaming)
- No R or exclamation sign (both WiFi and cellular usage is disabled)
I am not able to understand,Is my cellular data usage is really due to my device settings or is due to some issue by service provider.
Is it that the device is indeed using cellular data despite of the fact that cellular data option is disabled and it never shows this usage in data usage widget.
I observed that when I use Wi-Fi, then exclamation sign from cellular network is removed, does that mean that the cellular data is also used and that's why my service provider has charged me?
I have Marshmallow and a Nexus 6. My wifi reception is very poor upstairs and I end up using mobile data when I sleep, unless I switch it off before sleeping, which can be a little annoying. Any apps, or a way of switching off mobile data when I've reached a certain GPS (or radio tower, or set a timer) location?
I've used Tasker in the past but had to root my phone for it to work. Not keen to root my Nexus because I'd like to keep using my mobile banking apps!
I want to do a factory reset on my Nexus 5 but I don't want any backups/sync'd data to be restored (i.e. I want to completely start over as if I just got the device). I know how to do the factory reset but I'm not sure how to avoid any automatic restores or outdated/unwanted backup data.
Also, I noticed that in the Play Store apps that I no longer have installed still show up as installed. In fact a couple of apps that were never installed on my Nexus 5 (they were installed on an Android tablet that I no longer have a couple years ago) still show up. Is there a way to clear this/start over?
Today i woke up to see my nexus and it was not on. So I Press the button to turn on it but in the Moment that the word "GOOGLE" appears and then appears the 4 color just in that moment, it got STACK and automatically restart.

what does this mean? i just got my iPhone 4 today and i was on the road (apple store is an hour drive from where i live) and i was texing my friends, had:

enable 3g: OFF
data roaming: OFF
and i kept getting this response "turn on cellular data or use Wi-FI to access data" anyone know how to fix this? am i suppose to leave Cellular data on? i turned it off because i thought it would be wasting data. (got 200MB plan)
I am trying to figure out if there is a way that I can turn off background data/automatic syncing in all of my apps when I'm connected to Wi-Fi. Besides going in to each app and turning off the syncing.
The reason for this is that I'm going to be going on a cruise and the Wi-Fi on the ship is not exactly cheap, so I'd like not to go through a lot of data every time I connect to it because all of my apps decide that they are going to connect.

I've read about the "Metered Wi-Fi network" settings, but it doesn't say exactly what it does - it mainly talks about restricting background data on a mobile network, and setting data limits on a mobile network, even though it's supposed to be about Metered Wi-Fi networks.

Whenever I lose WiFi (like when I leave home) I get an exclamation sign next to my cellular network strength symbol and a prompt to sign in to my cellular network which I can't resolve. I can make calls but I can't get any cellular data. This started happening when I updated to the latest Android 6.0. I've checked the APN and it's correct.

So i want to know is there any way to test if my nexus 5 hardware is failing or is there any other bug/fix what can i do to get this work. When I turn on the cellular data option the personal hotspot function bar appears with the wording "Personal Hotspot" and the wheel appears and goes around and around forever. If I turn the iPhone off and back on (with cellular data turned on) then the personal hotspot bar appears with the wording "Set up Personal Hotspot" and not wheel spinning. When the wheel is spinning I assume that processing is going on and using battery, not good! By the way I do not use the personal hotspot function.

I have it set to ring when I get a call and once I answer that call and hang up, it automatically turns to vibrate on inbound calls. This is convenient as I want the volume maxed out when I connect to my cars bluetooth (otherwise I really have to crank up the stereo volume), but I don't want media volume on max when not connected. In the past I have used one of two apps (Tasker or Bluetooth Connect & Play). Both of these apps are having issues adjusting the media volume when they worked perfectly on my pre kitkat phones. Sometimes it works correctly and maxes out the volume, other times it doesn't change it at all.

If I move out of range of my network obviously the phone's WiFi connection drops.
When I return to within range of my home network my phone doesn't automatically reconnect to my home network. I have to press the power button on the phone to wake up the screen and within a couple of seconds the phone connects to my home network.
When I first got the phone I never had this issue. The phone would reconnect to my home network even though the screen hadn't been woken up.
When I got the phone it was on an older version of Android .. before Android version 5.
I have run the phone in Safe Mode and the automatic reconnect still doesn't occur.
So on Lollipop 5.1.1 should the reconnect to WiFi be automatic ?
Nexus 6 periodically not automatically connecting to established wifi connections? When this happens I have to power off and then when powering back on the connection is resumed.

When making calls, I hear ringing and right when the other person picks up, the phone automatically ends the call as if I hit the end call button. Same thing happens with incoming calls. I have full bars when this happens. So far, I've tried re-inserting the SIM card and doing a cache partition wipe to no avail. What could be going on?

AT&T and iPhone data use charges - WiFi and cellular link options Many people have complained about unusual data usage charges on their AT&T iPhone bills -- often 10s of megabytes in one transaction, posted in the middle of the night. Here are a couple of updates based on the AT&T support portal: WiFi vs cellular link: Connecting to a local WiFi hotspot and turning off your cellular data connection will block cellular data transmission and related charges. (Except for SMS messages, which are very small.) There are some gotchas, however: (a) If your iPhone goes 'to sleep' (the screen goes black), it will revert to the cellular data link, unless it is plugged into a charger. (b) Even if your iPhone is plugged into a charger, it will revert to a cellular data connection if the WiFi link drops, e.g. due to a momentary glitch with your internet provider or electric power supply, so.... (c) The only way to completely ensure that your iPhone will not revert to a cellular data connection is to turn it completely off. You (obviously) will not be able to receive calls, however.
Large data transactions in the middle of the night: Unusually large 'chunks' of data that are apparently sent around midnight are a related issue. You may think that you could avoid these mystery charges by making sure you have a WiFi connection running at night. A number of 'czars' on AT&T's site stated, however, that this is are simply an artifact of AT&T's billing system, which "aggregates" transactions that occur throughout the day into one summary charge, which is posted in the middle of the night. If this is accurate, the data connection(s) you use throughout the day will determine how large this 'summary' transaction will be.
Note: Our bill does not appear to square with AT&T's explanation. For example:
