I just gave Google permission to access my contacts in order to use the Google voice feature to send texts. However, when I read the list of things that Google now has access to, I decided I want to cancel those permissions (directly call phone numbers, edit text messages, modify my contacts, read my contacts, etc). Is there any way to do this?
I'm not really and expert on flashing stuff on Android. I was pretty comfy not rooting my phone for more than a year. TBH, I didn't really need it, because I was not a power user, but I've recently installed a root app called King User (King Root, etc.). It made things easy for the very few apps I could not use without root permission. However, when I received the latest OTA (5.1.1. security update) I had to disable root authorization in order to install it. So I disabled it using the app's built in authorization setting.
The OTA update failed and gave me the error with the opened up android and the red exclamation mark. So I thought that the app messed something up. Disabling in house did nothing. Uninstalling it did nothing. So I decided to replace it with SuperSU using this guide: [URL] .... After SuperSU deleted KingUser and updated itself the phone remained stuck inside a bootloop. So I figured this replacement process messed up permissions.
My bootloader is locked and I have no custom recovery (because like I said, I just needed temporary root access for a couple of apps and wanted to avoid the hassle). When I enter Recovery mode in default fastboot it gives me the "No command" error (probably because of SuperSU permission).
Now I don't even know if the phone is rooted or not. USB debugging was not enabled last time the phone was on and now I think I'm stuck in this point where nothing works without something else. Doing a full recovery now would probably be asking for a lot, but right now, I would be happy if I could just do a factory reset or something...
I realize that the new 5.0 update restricts third party apps from writing to the SD card. However, mine is not writing to the card even with apps that came installed on the phone, Camera, My Files, etc. Furthermore, when I try to backup files on my computer, it gives me an error message halfway through. Is there a way I can override the write permissions so I can go back to using my SD card? I like Samsung's concern for my privacy and security, but I'd prefer if they left that part up to me and let me use my SD card because, at the moment, it's useless.
for example a game called speedx 3d full&free one of the permissions it requires are phone calls / read phone status and id 'allows an application to access phone features of device. Applications with this permission can determin phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that the call is connected to ect.why would a game need to know my phone number and phone serial, am i just being paranoid?
I have smart switch installed on my pc with windows 10 and i try to backup data from my g920f running latest 6.0.1.
Smart Switch is stuck at "To complete the backup using Smart Switch you need to temporarily allow some permissions. Allow the permissions on the connected device"... There's no prompt on my phone.
I tried all kinds of reconnecting, restarting but still this dialogue.
So, got excited about the MotoACTV this past Saturday and bought online through Motorola. Realized soon after that my local REI had it in stock and I had a xmas gift certificate. Went to REI and purchased it - (Canceled my order for the Garmin 910XT in the process) Went back to the site to try and cancel my order but the 'Cancel items or order' button on my order page wasnt' functional. No biggie, I'll call. After being passed around to the same 3 depts TWICE, I was finally told the ecommerce section was closed for the weekend. Once again, I understand that.I then call on Monday, they tell me the order hasn't yet shipped but I'm not allowed to cancel it at that point. Don't quite understand and getting a bit frustrated at this point but whatever, I'll deal. Customer rep tells me that they'll issue a return slip and email it to me.
OK, I'm good with that.Wednesday comes and still no email with return slip. I call, go through the same 3 depts again and get someone else who tells me that it takes a while to get the return slip but I'll have it within 24 hours.24 hours goes by, I call again and get hung up on 3 times in the process before I can ever get to anyone. Once I get someone on the line, they tell me that it should be to me within the next couple of days... A RETURN SLIP?Once I finally lost my temper a bit, they said it would be 'escalated' and that I should be receiving it within a few hours... we'll see. They also let me know that I could not return it without the receipt.Meanwhile, I've completely soured on the one that I purchased and I'm considering returning it as well and changing my order back to the Garmin. By the way, I called Garmin's support team just to compare... night and day!
I noticed the stock alarm clock seems very stripped down compared to the one on my note 3. Either that or I am not seeing the settings to change these things. Here are some things that are bugging me:
- when the alarm ring there are no icons that show snooze or cancel. (just an X in the middle and you can slide left or right but no icons telling you what they do.)
- When I turn an alarm on there is no pop up that tells me in how long it will go off. (Good for when you accidentally put the time in PM intead of AM you can catch it with the pop up.)
- When I turn the snooze button on in settings, I can not customize the 5- minute intervals it snoozes at.
Is there any way to change any of these??? They were in the stock alarm app for my Galaxy note 3 so I am wondering if maybe I am not seeing something.
I have downloaded various apps from blackberry app world e.g. screen muncher and have tried to set my permissions but each time i have tried allow is not an option I am not sure how to turn off promt or what to do to get my apps to work?
How many of you have the facebook app installed an working on your htc one or android device? I was going to use it but it has LOTS of permissions it needs access to from your calls, texts, changing things on your phone an alot more! How safe is it to use know all the things it has access to? To me its uncalled for because it doesnt need all those things.
Heres a list-read your texts, draw over others apps, add or modify calender events and send email to guests without owners knowledge, phone calls, record audio.
We've discussed before that Keep Awake and Location are the primary permissions to block with Access Lock. There are quite a few apps that have those permissions active that simply do not need them. Why does ES File Explorer need to know my Location for what it does?As a group we've worked through a lot of the whittling down for battery saving and smooth use of the G4 over the past few months. I'm now circling back to some things to see if I can't tighten things up even more.
So, what are some of the other permsissions we should perhaps disable by default (unless they are very obviously needed)? What does the WiFi Change (or Bluetooth Change) permission do? Or, more to the point, what potentially happens if I disable that permission?I figure there aren't a lot of things beyond Keep Awake and Location that are big battery eaters, but what say ye?
I have the samsung vice, and am able to download and install all applications properly, but when it comes to accessing the sd card, the phone won't let opera mobile do it. It says restricted api. But it is possible, I have another samsung and the same signed version on mini on it, I can download things right onto the card. So i'm asking if there is a way I can make the phone let java applications have full access to the phone no matter what. This would also let mgmaps use the gps chip.
I'm struggling trying to figure out how or if it is possible to change the application permissions on the Motorola VA76r. I use the GMail app, and each time I press refresh it asks me for permission, and gives instructions on how to change them however when I try to change them I'm unable to. The only options I have are to ask, or not allow access at all, the rest are greyed out.
After downloading a free app from blackberry app world, a message has appeared saying 'The application blOC2 is attempting to access phone information. I cannot use my phone at all, none of the buttons or cursor r moving, just this message on the screen at all times.
Storm 2 (9550) with Verizon, running v5.0.0.607 (Bundle 1020, Platform 4.2.0.275)When a new application requests application control permissions, I receive the "View" dialog box, which in turn delivers a screen that shows "RIM - Application Modules". I would then typically select the "Menu" button which allows me to "Save", "Set as Defaults", "Apply Defaults" or "Edit Defaults".The problem I am having is that "Save" does nothing. "Apply Defaults" does nothing. "Set as Defaults" is the only selection that works, my app then launches.Shouldn't "Save" and/or "Apply Defaults" do virtually the same thing considering I have all Permissions set to Allow.
I was just wondering if the bionic is one of these devices?http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/02/some-android-phones-fail-to-enforce-permissions-exposed-to-unau/
Beginning yesterday 5/8/2012 The white screen pops up showing Application Permissions Request. TWCStandard is requesting permission to use the following resources. There is a box with location and a check mark. there is a box with connections and a check mark. A save button and a Details button. This pops up everytime I click on the weather icon. Is there a way to keep this from popping up every time? It did not used to. I have uninstalled and re-installed the weather app 3 times and 1 time in safe mode. I have edited my permission several times.
I got a new 6P from google to fix an issue I had. Both are running 6.0.1. I copied a few directories over to my PC from my old phone. Then spun up my new one, and copied them across. I can see the files in a file browser, but for some reason smart audio player app does not see them. I can push the 'grant write permission' and it lists my default storage as: "/storage/emulated/0" which is where the directories are. I can then see my books, but they are not showing up in the app to be able to play for some reason? I am wondering if it's permissions? On my old phone I could see everything (even stuff not in my audio book directory) when trying to browse for book source/root.
The Google search widget isnt working as well as holding the home button to open now. I type in my search, get the loading icon, it disappears like it's done loading but it's blank. No error messages. Can't find any "google now" or "Google search" in app manager.

This will by my first iPhone and I am a new customer to AT&T, I have two reservations (with two separate Apple ID's) at my local Apple store for launch day with the intent of signing up for the family plan with AT&T for both my wife and I. My wife is unsure if she wants the new phone and I was thinking of buying her a used iPhone 3GS with no contract instead of the new iPhone 4. Can I purchase one of the iPhone 4's with a contract at $199 and purchase the other for $599 with no contract and sell the no contract phone?
I'm just trying to understand my options, I assume I can also just cancel one of the pre-orders (or not pick up one of them) and they will gladly sell the phone to someone else.
I have an HTC One m8 which I purchased from T-mobile about four months ago. I was originally running the HTC BlinkFeed launcher, tried out the Google Now Launcher, experimented with some other launchers, but am now pretty much settled on the Nova Launcher. At some point during the last month (January) I set up a lockscreen which requires a PIN to give me access to my home screen and other pages.
That has turned out to have been a dumb move for me. I am physically disabled with cerebral palsy since birth (I am now 66). My arms, hands and fingers are pretty rigid and often spastic (stop giggling you kids). I can swipe my hand from left to right to clear the first screen and get access to the screen which presents the screen I must use to enter my PIN. Using the hunt and peck typing system I then enter my PIN. This process has become tedious and I real pain.
How can I do away with the PIN and lockscreen?
Recently I downloaded an app (whose name I cannot recall) which I thought would cancel the lockscreen and PIN. Instead, it gave me yet another lockscreen to deal with! So now I have to
(1) clear the first screen with a hand swipe, (2) enter my PIN, (3) use another hand swipe to clear this newest screen, and only then get access to my phone.
I have an app, Plants Vs. Zombies, that is stuck updating. It has not finished over the last week and refuses to cancel. Other apps update fine while this one persists. I've tried updating it on several different wifi/data networks with no luck. Also have tried clicking on the app with the choice of Retry the update or Done, I've tried both and the app is still stuck there with the empty update bar.
Additionally, I have tried turning data off and on and then trying to resume, tried restarting and many different combinations of this.
I don't want to delete and reinstall the app because I will lose my data (months of work). However, if there is an easy way to backup my data and then restore it, I am open to this option.
I'm downloading an application right now and I want to know how I can cancel the dowload. It said that if i'm opening a web page or something like i just need to press the button on the buttom left of the phone press more and then download and like that i can cancel my download , but when i follow the step they say that my dowload history is empty, but in the top left of the screen of my phone we can see the little arrow that show i'm dowloading and when i drag the arrow down i can see the application dowloading but nothing in the dowloading history. So i want to know if there another way to cancel download.
I have a family plan on AT&T with 3 lines. Two are iPhones that I've already preordered/upgraded and will be keeping. The third line is a regular phone that costs something like $10/month. I'd like to "upgrade" this line and gift the phone.Since I won't be canceling the voice line or number, I shouldn't have to pay a termination fee, right? I'll just have to buy a data plan for the iPhone upon purchase and cancel it whenever I want to. Will I have to purchase a more expensive voice plan, and can that be reverted back to the $10 plan without penalty?
