BB Curve :: Using Home WiFi Without Data Coverage?
Dec 5, 2011
I cancelled my TELUS data coverage because I'm on a maternity leave but since then, even my home wifi can be used on my device. Telus told me I can use WIFI at home if I don't subscribe to a wireless data plan. So, I want to know if really, I can use my personal WIFI at home (as other device like samsung and iphone do), or is it really impossible?
I used to browse webpages through wifi connection. Recently, I did a security wipe. After that, I can see that my phone connects to our home wifi. But whenever I try to open webpages or apps using wifi, I get an error that says I don't have network coverage/connection. I tried checking wifi settings and all but it seems that everything's normal...
Icons at the top of home screen, battery life and coverage bar have disappeared. How do I get them back?as well as wi-fi network name. They are all gone. I am not sure how that happened and I can not find a way to get them back.
I searched the forum multiple times this week and cant find an answer to my problem. since a week i suddenly lost my EDGE coverage and got now edge.email, bbm browser not working. host routing table is empty and i can't register my servicebooks. browser only works on wifi. if i try tu use it without wifi it says "this is hotspot browser" i have bis active. i reactivated it by calling my provider did battery pulls, os updates nothing worked out.one (litle thing i noticed the same day i lost coverage i got a message on my bb saying uncaught exeption adding byte out of range) i dont know if this has somthing to do with my problem are there crackberry addicts that can help me with my problem.
I can't connect to my WIFI at home, I have been doing it for months now but all of a sudden there is a red star above the WIFI logo on the top right and something keeps coming up about hotspot login but can't figure it out
I just upgraded my phone recently and before i upgraded it, my wifi was working properly. Now everytime i try to connect to my wifi at home, it won't light up.
I have an ADB wireless router and a very slow internet conection , and although my 2 laptops connect to the wifi here in Portugal, my blackberry curve 8520 on vodafone PT, doesnt connect , it identifies the network and shows wifi logo in grey and under network connections it showsthe network name with a white dash next to it and the signal strength.i have tried different setting on the router such as: wpa2, wpa, wep and open, but i get the same result.my internet speed is only 213kbps, would this effect the wifi? i have tried deleting the network and then taking out the battery while witched on etc....
my curve 9300 won't connect to my home wifi. I've tried every method possible, to no avail. I went to the telus store to ask about it, and a lady who clearly had no idea what she was talking about told me the curve is "just not powerful or high-end enough". I know someone who has a bold 9700 and it connected without a flaw to my home wifi.
My husband's brand new Curve 9300 will not connect to our home WIFI network. Although it picks the network up it will not connect stating "cannot find IP address". The network key is correct, & other Blackberrys in household have connected with no problems
I had the 4G logo showing in the notification bar and tried to use an app (at the time it was FourSquare) but the app kept saying "no data connection". the 4G signal was weak, I hit airplane mode on and off to reset, it came back into 3G with full strength and still "No Data Connection" Same story after rebooting the phone... By the time I drove home it connected to my WiFi and no issues since then.
I cant get my daughters 8520 to connect to our home wifi. I have searched and found my wifi, saved it and it says connected. But when i click on the browser button it says unable to connect or sometimes just a blank white screen. I have followed the setup advice but no joy.
My wife bought me a secondhand BB 8900 [Vodafone] on the internet. She put in the sim from "Talk Mobile" and I am able to use the phone fine. I am also able to connect to my home BT WiFi and the phone shows up on it's screen that connected to my WiFi and it's ID. Is there any way I could access my Yahoo e-mail on this device using my home BT WiFi?
I have tried by going to Advanced Options ->Host Routing Table-> "Register New" -> Getting a message "Registration Message sent with an exclamation ! Sign" but no messages are seen/
Read the online BB guide but not get to what I wish. Is there any guide I could use to access my Yahoo e-mails on my device?
My Curve used to connect to our home wifi. My phone discharged and now it does not connect. I may have reset to defaults during my attempts to connect, I am not sure what happened. My wife has the same blackberry and connects just fine. My phone sees the router, but it shows a WAP security deal. When I try to set it up-there is no WPA option. It tells me the blackberry will enter a PIN, but it never does.
I just got a Blackberry 9300 on contract with 750mb of data a month, I've switched data services and roaming off as I don't want to use this at home whilst I have wi-fi to use.But when I connected to wi-fi and tried to use the internet it wouldn't let me. . it said something like turn data services on. And then I noticed that my data usage started to go up. So basically my questions are 1) Why wouldn't it let me use just my wi-fi to browse internet and 2) Does using wi-fi take my monthly data usage up.
Is there a simple way for me to tell if I am using the wifi network at home? Is the wifi icon on top right corner of browser the indication. I am trying to make my wife feel comfortable that is OK to surf as she wishes while at home.
My Curve 8520 has my home wireless connection but it doesn't hold the connection for more than a minute at a time. Is there anything I can do? It's fine when the little WiFi words light up in the top right of the screen, but then it goes grey and is disconnected.
I have the curve 8520 so i do not have a data plan, but i do have social networking. I have wifi at my house and i am with rogers and wanted to know if i can use the internet like tumblr exetera without paying money for it.
I'm gradually getting used to and liking my new BlackBerry! If I'm at home and got the wifi on and want to go on the internet, how do I know I'm using wifi and not my data plan? I only have 250mb data plan and don't want to be using it up when I'm on the net with the wifi on. It says the name of the router at the top of my phone, but also 3G. I can't tell if I'm connecting via the wifi router or phone connection.
I purchased my blackberry in August 2011 and signed up for a talk/text plan with Koodo. I used my wifi at home to access the internet on my blackberry then one day, it stopped working. The Koodo people tell me that RIM did some kind of 'service book push' that has now blocked all wifi capabilities so now I have to purchase a data plan to get wifi. Is this accurate or is Koodo just trying to get me to sign up for a data plan just so I can access my wifi at home?
Really loving this phone (8520) and a massive leap from my last phone.
Having trouble with connecting to my or my works wifi. It registers both routers and displays the name across at the top of the phone and in wifi settings I have a black square with a white dash line and a green wifi symbol.
I have a Asda pay as you go sim which is fine for the calls text etc but I hearing not so good for the Internet.
I have managed to get the browser going with the Hotspot setting but I'm guessing this isn't using my home wifi as it as slow as a snail and keeps cutting out.
Without Hotspot enabled it tries to use VodaphoneLive and I get the message "unable to connect to the Internet, please try again later. If the problem persists please contact your service provider"
I have just completed a fairly thorough search on the internet and have followed a number of suggested remedies, but I have not been able to solve my problem.I recently acquired an 8320 and would like to use WIFI, but I am not willing to purchase a data plan. In my search, I have come across people who say they are able to do this, but most threads have been a few years old.I have T-Mobile service and a working network at home to test out the Blackberry's wifi capability. Can I use wifi without a data plan on this device?
I'm thinking about buying a BB Curve 8520 and was wondering if 1) You can just use it w/o having a data plan, 2) If so, can I use the Wi-Fi to join my house network w/o having a data plan, and 3) Would I be able to download apps then, specifically Pandora?
ihave an active wifi connection and can browse when my data services are on. if i do so when using some app like facebook i have being charged for using data like 10ps evry interval. my default browser is set to hotspot.. i have no apn. my os is 5 and my carrier is airtel india.
I just got the 8900 yesterday, and I had skipped the setup when I opened it up yesterday. Today I decide to restart my BB because I was removing a Google mobile app, so once I restarted, I got the BB set-up tutorial thingy popping up again. So I set the language and set it to not to remind me afterwards. However, once after doing so, the green LED starts flashing green. I asked one of my friends, and he says its Coverage, and told me to turn it off. And I did as I was told, yet its still flashin green. The LED itself isnt flashing constantly like it should in Coverage tho, it blinks about 7-8 times, before it stops, for half a minute and starts blinking once again. Its irriating and I would like to turn it off for good I'm on Rogers carries, and im running 4.6.1.250 OS.
All of the sudden I am no longer receiving emails to my blackberry and I cannot connect to the internet. It says that my connection to the mobile network is turned on, but I am not in a wireless coverage area.
