Nokia :: N97 - Queries About The Features Of The Device
Apr 20, 2010
Questions:
1. How can I see al the phone and memory contenst through the PC Suite file manager when it seems all files are protected and hidden?
2. How can I move files from pc memory to mass memory so that I have more free memory on the phone? What files can be moved?
3. I am trying to install N-Gage but after installing the message reads to make a reboot: does this mean a switch off and switch on process or there is a reboot procedure?
4. Why N97 will not switch on if the sync cable is inserted in the phone?
5. Why I am not allowed to update to firmware 2.
I have a few questions on the N97 Mini. I was hoping you guys could help me with:
Touchscreen and navigation arrows: if I choose to, can I avoid to use the touchscreen and resort to the arrows in the keyboard? For example, to navigate in a web page Battery life: what's your experience so far? Keyboard: I understand this is very subjective, but how are you finding it? I hate to type on touchscreens. Do you find it convenient or is it annoying to open the sliding keyboard every single time?
I am considering moving from the E71 to the N97 mini, because an operator has a pretty good deal on it, and because I'd like a bigger keyboard and bigger screen, even though I understand this comes at the price of reduced battery life.
1) When I open the camera application, open Maps and other applications why does it keep asking me if I want the bluetooth on, its annoying? 2) My contract is up with Vodafone but is it really worth upgrading to the N900. I have read the reviews and the N900 seems quicker and a bit more reliable but is it really worth tying myself into another contract for. What phones are nokia planning to bring out the future I may as well wait until a phone is realesed which really improves on what I have. 3) On the off chance does anyone know when vodafone will stop stocking the N97 and stock to the N900 only? 4) Is the rumour true about nokia stopping the N series?
I'm having problems using the Nokia multimedia transfer on my mac to connect to Nokia x7-00.1, I also wanted to know if there are any theme creators for this model that are fo a mac operating system. Is there also a way to change the color scheme of a them?
Since it seems that prices for microSDHC cards have dropped quite a bit recently (you can get a 16GB Class 10 Samsung one for £25 now) I'm thinking of getting a new Class 10 one for my X3-02. Does anyone know if one will work in the X3-02, and whether I'd get the benefit of the full speed? Also, while a 32GB card is probably out of my price range at the moment, has anyone managed to get one to work in an X3-02? I notice that the X3-02 Specifications page on Nokia's UK site is still contradicting the manual by saying that the phone accepts cards up to 16GB, rather than 32. When I asked Nokia Support they said 16GB was the correct figure, but that was a couple of firmware revisions ago.
So, I saved up some cash, and am selling some stuff to get about 300-350 pounds budget for a new phone. I'm very tempted to get the N97 mini. It has good audio quality (gsmarena tests) pretty decent pictures, WiFi, GPS, qwerty keyboard and a nice screen. What does SE have to offer that will give me good music, photos and connectivity? WiFi is pretty important and a qwerty keyboard is a big plus. Another thing that stops me from spending so much money on a brand new SE is their lack of updates when it comes to fixing bugs and adding features.
I still see Nokia pumping out N95 firmwares that get new features and fixes. The SE phones I owned could've got new features but SE never bothered. Take smile shutter on the C510 for example, they could've and in my opinion should have also made an update to include the feature in it's bigger sister the C702. But they didn't. I don't want to spend 300 pounds on a device that will not receive updates and features after 6-12months.
Just bought myself a N900 thinking it would be just the thing to replace my aging Sony Clie PEG-UX50 and my SE K750I. After much messing around I have managed to export my calendar from the Clie and also Thunderbird (Why no Thunderbird synch in PC Site??) only to find a number of really basic features arent available:-
1) Events cannot repeat on anything but a day of the month. If an event is on the 17th of every month that is fine. If however you want an event on the first Monday or the second Tuesday of every month then I cant see any way you can do it. Am I missing something?
2) Birthdays. There are some Birthdays I want to remember but I dont have contacts for the people they are for. Friends children for example. Why cant I enter a birthday directly in to the Calendar app? The Birthday Calendar is there and is local but the only way to put an entry in to it is to create a contact and add a birthday.
3) Reminders. Why cant I have a reminder at any time I want? Days, Weeks or Months earlier? I only seem to be able to set a reminder at some time during the day before the event.
These are all such basic features of a calendar application that I cannot see why they are not there. My Clie does them, Thunderbird does them. Outlook does them Am I missing something obvious? If not is there an improved version coming? Is there another app out there that will do what I need? (Please no Google Calendar I didnt buy this to use Google). The inability to handle repeat events and reminders are really a show stopper for me.
I updated my Nokia firmware version to 60.0.003. I am located in India. I see that phone's browser has been updated to the latest version. As i have seen the change logs over internet I don't see "Swipe to Unlock" on my phone. It appeared only once.
Does anyone know where they is a good internet site explaining exactly how to use the 808's camera and all its features? Its probably me being stupid but i cant seem to get great photos from my 808, infact id say my N8 takes better photos if you havent got 10 minutes to set it up.I've tried leaving it in auto mode and also messing around in creative mode but im just not happy with the photos, most seem blurred or out of focus slightly no matter how hard i try to keep the phone still.I'd say i can hold a camera just as still as most people but unless its mounted in a tripod the results are poor, even my mates and family have had a go and it makes no difference, none of use can get sharp photos every time.
I have attached a couple of pics to show what i mean. And before anyone says did the cat move for pic 2, the answer is no. He is great for taking photos as he just sits there for ages looking at you and not moving at all..Picture 1 is me holding the camera above my head (so not very stable at all) to take a photo of my cat on top of the shed roof, the results are quite good considering.Picture 2 is taken resting the camera on top of a box (so very stable) but seems slightly out of focus and not as good as pic 1.
Nokia has me back as a loyal customer again after my debacle with the Nokia N97. I noticed three things that I thought are fairly critical, that are missing, all related to the phone part of the N900.
1) In my E61 and the N97, one could while in a call, choose a contact from the contact list and send number as DTMF, this feature is particularly useful when using calling cards, which I do 2) From the call log of both the E61 and N97 you could choose an entry and edit the number before calling, helpful sometimes when roaming and the incoming number comes with an odd prefix because of odd carrier routing of the call 3) In Contacts, is there no field for Middle Name?
I have tried a fair bit of searching on this and other sites, oddly couldn't find anything on these, any one have any thoughts?
I recently got my nokia 6500 slide repaired. However, that default features are gone. What I mean is for instance, the calculator that i used to have is gone, all my original games are gone, my themes are gone etc. Is there any way I can get these priceless features back? If not could somebody send me the deault features?
Since the update, my phone no longer go into landscape. When I text, I usually flip landscape to do it. Now I cannot. Portrait Only. When I snap pictures, I always flip into landscape mode to view them.IT STINKS looking at the pictures in portrait mode. Two large black borders on top and bottom. I also discovered since the update, my phone can't read bar codes. My 920 is crippled but the update was supposed to make things better but it didn't and I'm sure there isn't much I can do about it but be annoyed for the next 2 years.
Currently own an N96, and I was thinking about getting an N900, but I've been hearing a lot about incomplete software and missing features? I know that MMS is not supported by default in the N900 (you have to download third party software), but also there is no GPS/map software? Also I heard that you cannot video call?
Could someone be kind enough to list the features that I will be used to as an N96 owner, that aren't available in the N900 "out of the box". I know it's possible to download new programs and stuff, but I'd like the core functionality to be Nokia's own software just so it's consistent in design and quality.
I'm currently running v2.1 software on the n97 so the latest software. However, are there any extra features to download of beta labs.I don't think i'm running the latest ovi maps. Is it worth the update? Also, does anybody have any news of a new software update?
Nokia 808 Belle FP2's gallery is still crippled. There is no way to organize photos into folders or tag them in any useful manner. And there no possibility to select multiple items for sharing etc. Gallery cannot zoom images that are downloaded to the phone from other sources no matter how big these images are.
None of these limitations were present in Symbian Anna, so this is a major drawback and downgrade in terms of features even this 808 shoud be Nokias's current flag ship phone on photography domain.
I am writing to express my disappointment with the Nokia product I purchased recently.
I bought an E66 handset from Carrefour in Shanghai last month, thinking that it would have full features.
With the Nokia site for China not having any information available in English, I used the Nokia site from Oman (where I am currently living) to research the specifications.
It was not until I returned to Oman that I realized that the E66 sold in China and the E66 sold elsewhere was not actually the same phone.
The phone that I bought is missing key features that persuaded me to buy it in the first place. It is missing:
Front camera. 3G capabilities. WiFi connectivity. Lifetime navigation with OviMaps. Plus a range of other features that I was looking for.
This is marketed as a business phone, yet is missing the features I need to properly conduct business.
I do not understand why a global brand such as Nokia would ensure that the E66 model would have the same features universally.
I am thoroughly upset and disappointed at Nokia; having been a Nokia user for more than 12 years I have been let down by the brand that I have remained loyal to. Essentially, I was misled into buying a very bad phone.
Is there any way that you can explain the reasons behind the difference in the Chinese and Global E66 and/or equip me with an E66 that has the features I am looking for?
I just bought nokia c3 for a week, I accidentally click the restore factory settings and then entered the password, after that, all my files gone, the communities, ovi store, and other features of the phone. the original theme color on the phone is green, white and blue right?
Then after restoring the theme become gray and other features gone, and the worse thing that I cant use the internet although I have wifi connection. The goto address and other menu in the internet gone, the only remaining is home, browser and web services.
When I click home it says check home page address, when I click browser, it doesn't work also the web services. The community, ovi store, and other features gone, all tones gone, all themes, all games gone, nothing left.
Nokia, been using Maps on a Lumia 820 for two weeks now, and while the touch interface is of course a huge step forward from my previous E52, there are several (I believe essential) features that are strangely and desperately missing:The basic map view is fixed to "north up" and doesn't show any indicator of the direction the device is pointing to. The E52 had both a compass indicator and an option to rotate the map according to the device's orientation. I find map orientation essential in "pedestrian mode", especially when you're in an unknown place. While we're at map indicators: when zooming, either with the pinch and zoom gestures or with the optional +/- buttons, the map does not show a scale or ruler which the E52 also did. Both offline maps and microSD card support are unique characteristics of Nokia Maps and the Lumia 820. However, storing downloaded maps (probably the biggest data chunks on your phone) on the microSD card is not supported. You really have to the store your offline maps the phone's internal memory? When you open your list of placemarks (or favourites), that list is sorted alphabetically. With more than a few placemarks (I have well over 500, collected over many years) that's almost useless, because you see named locations scattered all over the world when you're really looking for the name of that restaurant you visited somewhere nearby some time ago. On the E52 the favorites list was of course sorted by the distance from the currently displayed map area (or the current location), which is so much more useful.
I have no problem viewing Office Words document. It can be easily moved around by dragging, pinch and zoom etc. But with the default PDF reader, Not responsive to drag. Highly resistance to pinch and zoom.
So I eagerly upgraded from Anna to Belle on my N8. Here is a list of missing features;
1) widget offline setting
2) automatic wifi enable when launching the browser, store or other internet app
3) bluetooth beep no longer present after turning off bluetooth
4) turning wifi on doesn't automatically pair with defined access point
5) task manager or open applications feature
6) automatic screen blanking while placing or receiving a call
7) wife connection drops but wifi radio stays on
8) touching battery icon indicates remaining power (same for other icons)
Another nit, apps that were previously downloaded when they were free, can no longer be downloaded without paying. Why does the upgrade remove your apps anyway?
I have a Nokia 2680 and I fully charged my bluetooth earpieces. On my phone, I set the Bluetooth on, gave my phone a name and selected phone's visibility to all. When I try to add a paired device to add the bluetooth, it gives me a message saying no device found. The bluetooth earpiece is right next to the phone. Can anyone help?
Prior to the update I kept getting a time scape video showing me how to use all the features, this kept draining my battery to the point where I did not want the phone anymore.
Then after I did the update the other day and it got rid of the problem J. Then it came back on today, and I want to know how to get rid of it as it drains my battery.I know how to use the features I don't need a demo video playing in the background.
Obviously multi-tasking is out, and I'm hearing to wallpapers on the homescreen. What things CAN the 3g do, for those of you who have had iOS4 for awhile? I have searched the internet for a little and most just found 'iPhone 3G will not have all features", which isn't very specific.
