The Messaging app on my N97 will not disconnect from the network. I've set it to Go Offline, the connection is still active. I've set it to go offline and then Exited the app, the connection is still active. The only way I can make it disconnect from the 3G/WiFi network is if I set it to start manually and then my phone off and on again. But if I start the app once, the problem is back. If I set it to sync automatically during a part of the day, even if it's supposed to be offline and not syncing it's still online and using my connection. I like this app but it bugs me to see it keep my WiFi/3G connection on at all time, even if it's set on "offline" and if i exit it.
I have a Nokia E71 just update to the firmware 410.21.010. I did not recovered backup after the upgrade and I formatted the memory card, so it's completely clean.
Now, Nokia Email has appear as new included application so I would like to use it, but when I configure my email account (form a supported services: ovi, gmail, etc...), the wizard only configures my mobile for the typical IMAP client. It's strange, because I have a different E71 also update to this same firmare and Nokia Messaging works fine and creates the Nokia Messaging account. How could use Nokia Messaging with my E71?. Is there some way to create a Nokia Messaging account form the web instead from the phone?.
Can anyone please shed some light on why Ovi Maps V2.0 was happy to operate offline on my E71 and show you all mapping detail when the newer version (3.03) does not. Everytime I open the app (in offline mode) there is no mapping displayed, only when I go onlie (which it will only allow when using my network operator (Orange) connectivity not my wifi, help here too would be appreciated) does it download any maps. So far its used 3.2mb of my monthly allowance and for liitle more than 10km of detailed mapping. Is 3.03 dependant on being online to have mapping data so you can scroll across map areas and zoom in to close detail or can this be in offline mode too? So far seems this 3.03 is a very inferior product when not wanting to be online all the time.
When my phone is switched on but hasn't been used for a few hours when I go to use it I find that it has gone into the "Offline" mode from then on the only way that I can clear this and use my phone again is by switching it off and back on which then gives me the option to come out of the Offline mode, I also sometimes get the insert the SIM card message having switched off and back on again.
I just downloaded OviMaps 3.03 and tried to use the navigation. After a few seconds it asks me to allow for access to the online shop. As I'm living in Belgium (where data plans suck and are far too expensive), I declined, then it stopped the navigation (going back to the map with no more guidance). How to get the navigation functionality without data plan?
I just bought my N97 last week and I only use wifi connection. I download the map from Nokia Ovi Suite and used my GPS. Question is: Is that cost money when I used my GPS (OFFLINE).
I am having a problem with my new Nokia 5230. The offline search does not work in OVI Maps. I installed the newest version 3.03 and uploaded the maps of my country (the Netherlands) to the phone. I am able to pick a direction while using the map itself but when i enter an address in the search bar it give the error: no offline results found.Maps is in offline modus because of my subscription without internet.tried entering just the streetname, streetname and city, streetname city and country, different streets.
How i get my phone out of the offline mode i have just returned to this phone after a brief trial with an alternative, but i am having real issues in setting it up. Firstly my phone numbers which i know are on my sim card are not being recognised by the 5800, and i also have this offline issue. Will continue to scour this site for an answer, but if anyone in the mean time can put me out of my misery i will be very grateful.
I bought the phone 3 weeks ago and was shocked to find out it only worked online ... not at all the way it was advertised (imho).Nokia Maps ''always free of charge'' was the one big reason I decided for a Nokia loyalty rather then going to Samsung or Apple.
1. Is / will Nokia Maps be available soon for Lumia 800 in offline mode, like the good old Nokia I had for 4 years?
2. Is there a good alternative (is Drive really an alternative and is truly offline)?
3. If none of the above - which Nokia smartphone does work offline with Nokia Maps? I still have a week's time to bring it back to the store!
Just wondering, is the radiation reduced in offline mode? Presumably because there's no broadcasting of signals? Will it make a difference if the FM radio is used? Logically this will cause an increase in radiation albeit lower than in online mode.
can anybody advise me if it is possible (or if there is an app) to activate Bluetooth in offline mode on the N900? This was a feature available on my old E90 and N96 models and was very useful when all you wanted to do was enjoy wireless music through (Nokia's excellent) BH-905 headphones.
I am thinking to buy a N900, but not any data plan. I searched, and I found some people on maemo.org complaining that they don't get directions if the N900 is not connected to the Internet. Can I use the GPS without a data plan, as in "get directions and see a map of the road ahead"? I don't know much about the various alternatives or improvements to GPS, and frankly I don't want to know the innards. Just tell me yes or no.
I have installed the map of Belgium via the Ovi software on my PC (using bluetooth) on my 5230. I can enter an address to navigate too, but after a few seconds, my phone asks to go online to 'enter the store' or something like that. After I press 'no', the phone seems to loose the fact that it was navigating and I just see my current location, but the navigation instructions are gone. If I re-enter the address I want to go to, I get the same problem again. Can I set some setting that would avoid the question of 'entering the store' or is this some kind of bug?
I am trying to use my Nokia without the data connection but the Ovi Maps can't find any address even I downloaded the local map. The GPS works well but looks like that the navigation application can't read the map unless I search that place manually. If I don't, it just tells me "no results in offline mode". What is wrong? Now it´s just an electronic map, not a real navigator. I´m using the Ovi Maps 3.04 and the phone is 6730 Classic.
I just loaded Nokia maps 3.01 for Nokia with upgraded firmware to 2.0 version (sic!) and I see that offline search for address always find no results. Is that because this tricky way of map load with out map loader? Or something may be wrong?
I'm going to Europe soon and wanted to use my N97 OVI Maps as a navigation aid, so I've been testing it today in offline mode as data charges abroad are horrendous. My problem is that when trying to search for POI's i.e. Cash Machines, Restaurants, Train Stations etc. the offline search takes a very, very long time (perhaps over 5 minutes), if it completes at all. The phone locks up before it eventually shows me the results and then after 10-15 mins of waiting, I have to remove the battery to restart the phone for it to become usable again.
I am now on my 2nd 5800, got my first one last February and was able to use it for a whole month, till I took the SIM out of it, thats when my problems began, I've had 2 new SIMs, the phone was away for repair 3 times then I got a new one in November 2009 and guess what same problem, it wont change from off line to on line, no matter how many times I put the SIM in, so that one has been away for repair and surprise surprise it still doesn't work, thankfully I still have my old N95 which works and I use that.
I have a Nokia 5800, just updated firmware to 40 and map to the free v3.04. I don't have a data plan so a free GPS feature is a plus for me. I played around with it and finally got it to work. However, I checked my data usage just to be sure that I was offline. The bill showed that my phone was constantly checking with AT&T network during this time. The data usage was between 6k to 8k every few minutes when GPS was active. Does free GPS and map include turn by turn navigation? Is that what the phone was doing, getting turn by turn instruction from the network?
I have a phone that does not have WiFi, my network plan does not include Internet. I'm able to download applications, however, I can't activate it if I'm offline. So I used a different a friends SIM with Internet to activate the application. Now when I transfer my SIM card in the phone, it asks to transfer the license of the application. This needs Internet access again. What can I do? Anyway I can do this offline?
I have recent bought a nokia e5 and it keeps randomly moving itself to offline mode and then when i try to put back onto any other profile it says 'insert sim card'. I have of course many times removed the battery and sim card, turned the phone off for a while, left the battery out but nothing seems to work. I took the phone into phones for u where i got it from and of course as soon as i passed it over to the man behind the till he said 'look you just need to change it to a different profile'. It worked fine for him but now when i do that it does not recognise the there is a sim card in there. When i explained that this keeps happening and i can not seem to get it off oflfine mode (this does not allow me to make calls, text, accept calls or text so therefore its useless) he says there is nothing he can do as he has not seen the fault.
when i use my lumia 800 GPS to travel, is their a way to save the journey on the phone so that next time i dont have to replan the same route. also can i make a trip using via points?
My N8 is stuck in offline mode. I have tried changing the profile, hard resetting, factory reset, another sim in my phone, my sim in another phone (both of which worked fine in other phone).I should also say that the phone had a fault before this. The battery ran dry and would not charge, I contacted my mobile company (virgin mobile) and they told me to send my phone in.
I received my phone back saying they could not fix the fault and it was not covered by the warranty. I tried to turn it on last night and it switched on, great I thought and put my sim back in but nothing. I checked the sim slot on the side of the phone and I can see that all the pins are fine and not bent or have been moved in any way.
I am a developer and I'm working on a prototype application using Qt on my E7-00.
I would like the users of my application to use maps in offline mode.
So If I use Nokia Ovi Suit , it will take hours to download all the maps (approx 9 GB of data)..more importantly ovi suit refuses to download maps if my phone is not connected to the pc.
Is there a way I can download the maps as a zip file or something from my pc and then later install them on my phone? If yes..where can I find the downlaod links? I am using an E7-00 with Symbain Anna update (round icons..cool!!)
I have a Nokia N900. When I am in offline mode, but there is a SIM card in it, when I try to connect with Wifi, I get a message saying: Exit offline mode? (Yes/No are the possibles answers). Well I click No to connect to the internet while I am in offline mode, but nothing happens then! It connects without a problem without a SIM card or when I am not in offline mode. Is that supposed to happen? No Internet in Offline Mode?
Thank you Nokia for making maps free. We really love you for that. But I've already found the first serious bug. Even if you have downloaded maps to the phone (N97 mini), you can't search for addresse and places in offline mode. The old version could that.If you browse with your finger and browse through places, you will find everthing, but when searching freetext for places and addresses in offline mode, no result are shown.Guess Nokia will have to fix this soon. The workaround is of course to use online mode.
