Nokia :: 5530 Easy To Use / Good Battery Life / Radio Like On It?
Apr 26, 2010
I am seriously thinking of getting the Nokia 5530 for my next phone but i have a few questions if you dont mind me asking?
1. Can you put your own songs on there from your pc & then listen to them in the mp3 player?
2. Is it easy to use?
3. Has it got good battery life?
4. What is the radio like on it?

i am new user, and just buyed 2-3 days back a new nokia 5530 xpress music, and i am not happy with it, the main problems are
1) earphone problems - the earphones are not good i mean i got the white color earphone still the sound in it is so bad that no bass in it, simple voice with low sound, also buyed a new earphone but same problem. i hate that
2) music player- well the music is very low as compared to samsung corby pro. this is xpress music but has not much sound where else samsung corby pro has more and better sound than us wat the hell.
3) battery problem- well the battery life as told music can be played upto 27 hrs, and talktime 4 hrs, and standby time, huh ( ALL FAKE). i yesterday rechraged my xpress music fully at around 4 pm, and i dint listen to any music, was just msging my friends and talk to someone for around 30 mins and then was just msging and msging and i stoped at around 12 am night, i saw my battery and its almost down i was shocked and suprise that battery only worked for around 8-9 hrs wat the hell grrrrrrrrrr. at 1 am the battery was at 1 point i mean i am so disappointed i felt like kicking the phone out my balcony. and ya when i recharge my battery it recharges in almost 20-25 mins that too full charge i mean i dont understand y is it happening like that

I am about to leave switch back to AT&T from Verizon on a GoPhone/PYP basis or perhaps T-Mobile in the same contract mode. Have been using a Voyager which is a competent device but has never been as good as I thought it would be. The screens are too small as is the keyboard, the OS isnt great and got over the wonders of touch screen in a hurry. I want a phone with larger qwerty buttons, and a larger screen, good battery life, and great reception. I am not a techy, don't need the latest and greatest, and don't want to spend a lot of money. At this point that leaves me with 3 choices: the e63, the e62, the e90, or the 9300. The e63 should be the no brainer as it is feature rich and modern at an amazing price but the keys are too small as is the screen. The e62 appears to have larger keys and a larger screen and can be had on e-bay for a $60. I have heard that the OS is sluggish but I am not a heavy user and am patient so thats not a dealbreaker. The 9300 is almost prehistoric and heavy and yet it can be bought brand new for $100 and in return I get a solid phone, great battery life, great reception, as well as a spacious qwerty keyboard and a large screen (dont need camera and can live w/o wifi). The e90 appears to be the dream phone but its really expensive, used ebay guessing at more or less than $350. I am not gonna spend that kind of money. I am not a data user, dont need the latest and greatest OS, am partial to Nokia because of reception concerns. Any feedback/insight will be appreciated.

I know there are multiple threads out there discussing this and I looked at most of them but this is different. My 9700 has gotten great battery life since day one, but this weekend I went out to the desert and didn't use my phone much because I only had EDGE but it was dropping in and out constantly, I had a full charge on Thursday morning and when I got home Saturday afternoon I had 20% which is pretty damn good I'm not complaining about that. When I got home I charged it fully and then on the middle of the day on Sunday my batter was almost dead. Same thing Monday and same thing today. I fully charged it yesterday afternoon and this morning it was at 25% and I hardly used my phone yesterday. SOMETHING has happened to my battery life, I'm running 5.0.0593 which hasn't ever gotten me fantastic battery life but its been okay but now its just shot.
I haven't changed anything on my BB for this to happen so I'm posting here for ideas of what could be causing this, I've looked at programs running closed everything I can and do not have WIFI or bluetooth on and Have constant good 3G reception.

yesterday, my 8320 was at the point where it had no battery life for radio use.Now the phone just completely turned off. Its been on charge for a good 10-15min. After holding the end button to turn it on, it says, battery drained, and it turns off.whats my problem? 2 different chargers have been used already, and so has the USB.

What is the average battery life time if you listen to FM radio (with earset and moderate volume). In some GSM specification its written "20 to 37 hours if you listen to music...." .Is this MP3 music listening or is this FM radio listening also ? (I mean "classic" FM radio NOT streaming radio !!!).I'm looking for a GSM that I can use as "walkman" (FM radio only !) during several hours a day without loosing too many battery power so that I still can use the GSM for making calls.....

I’ve got a BlackBerry Curve 8900 (ATT, running 4.2.0.108), and have had it since Oct. 2009. Battery life has always been OK - 24 to 48 hrs. between recharges.
Today though, after pulling it off the charger this morning around 8:00 a.m., I’ve noticed that I’m down to about 5% charge by 2:30 p.m. I have made no phone calls today, and have only sent/received a couple texts and rec’d two emails. I've never used a holster, have downloaded no apps, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both off. No keys appear to be sticking. Absolutely nothing, to my knowledge, of any significance has changed on the phone since October, yet all of a sudden --literally, overnight --I am experiencing this greatly diminished battery life. The only even remotely precipitating factor I can think of is that I did a battery pull yesterday, after deleting some old photos and emails.
I’ve searched the forum, and most of the suggestions are along the lines of “turn off bluetooth/wi-fi/update OS,” but as noted, I never used those anyhow, and the OS has always been good to me.

So had my N900 for a little over a week now and overall I'm pretty impressed. Great phone, but still very much a work in progress. One of the main issues I have at the moment, other than no turn-by-turn navigation (sorry, had to mention it), is the battery life - or lack of!
On an average weekday I use the phone to send a few texts (no more than 10), scan the news sites (no more then 20-30mins total) and catch up on my RSS feeds (again, no more than 20-30 mins total). I'm not using the media player at all and I may make one or two short calls.
Bottom line is that I'm struggling to get more than 6 hours battery life out of it. I know smart phones are thirsty, but I don't even get to listen to music on my way to or from work! Here's what I've already done to reduce battery consumption:
Removed active widgets (such as ForcaWeather) from desktops and replaced with web shortcuts.Reduced screen brightness to 2 barsDisabled GPS & Network positioningDisabled IMDisabled BluetoothI've heard some mention reducing the amount of active desktops, but I think that kinda defeats the object of having a N900. May as well buy a lesser phone if you need to strip out all the functionality to get though the day. I'd be satisfied with 8-10 hours medium use. At the moment I'm getting around 6 hours at light use - got to be something I'm missing.

I don't mean like pandora where you put in an artists or genres name and it kinda generates a radio station. I mean actual internet radio stations.
Stuff where I can find stations from around the world, dance, clubs etc

I recently upgraded my phone to the latest firmware and there have been many, many good features such as the revamped map system. However, there are 2 major issues, the first being that the battery life has degraded. Its so bad that I charge it and sometimes it doesnt last a day. I dont know if anyone else has this problem? But its somewhat annoying, is there something that can be done about it? Also, the phone has gotten somewhat slower as well

I have had the E71 for almost 2 years without any problems. The battery low sign now comes on after 3hrs and the phone then powers off.I have replaced the battery for a new unit and tried using a friends battery but it still powers off after 3hrs when its been on charge overnight. The only way I can keep it on is by leaving on the charger.

After having used the E72-1 (Made in Finland) for almost three weeks, I have the following observations. First I must note that though the list of positive points is shorter than the list of negative points, this should not scare one away from the E72! Positive experiences are more difficult to note than negative ones are. I am very happy with the E72, and most certainly don't regret it! Some people recommended to get the E71 (I expected the E72 to be available only in mid-January and at a much higher price, until I was suddenly informed it would be available in December already), but I didn't do so, primarily because of the following: HSUPA, 3.5mm audio connection, 5 MP camera. These are really significant improvements over the E71!
POSITIVE
* Battery life is quite decent. Since I do tend to charge it both at home and at the office by default, I haven't really tested it extensively, except for one day: I used it very intensively during some 5 hours on a hiking trip in the forest. I took 70 pictures, made 4 videos totaling some 10 minute, sent 5 pictures through Gmail, had a 15-minute phone call, 10-minute Nimbuzz call, some 2 hours on GPS (Google Earth) with tens of position fixes, and some time chatting on Nimbuzz. After that, it was almost empty. I wouldn't expect anything else after such use. (Since I had my laptop with me as well with some 12 hours of power, I could have charged via USB sleep-and-charge from my laptop, if needed).
* I like the optical pad. I only use laptops (as opposed to desktop computers); it's similar to a laptop touchpad, which I use all day. If you use laptops a lot, you'll love this.
* Camera is excellent. Both video and pictures.
* Email client works fine. Both Exchange and Gmail work fine, without any problems. For Exchange, I get new mails on my phone, through 3G, even before I get them on my laptop (Outlook 2007), through company LAN!
* GPS is excellent. Works great with Google Maps.Gets GPS fix in seconds.
* Bluetooth to laptop works fine (heard some things about problems with Bluetooth, though one source said this is specifically regarding earpieces, which I don't use).
* Signal strength is quite good. Switches from EDGE to 3.5G *and back* without problems.
NEGATIVE
* I had the spacebar-not-working issue just once. Rebooting fixed it.
* When you connect the phone through USB, sometimes it will start charging, sometimes not. (No relation to USB port, nor to battery status). Sometimes you just have to plug it in three times before it will charge through USB.
* Built-in chat client is more or less useless.
* GPS trip distance barely seems to work; first it registered me as having had a 26 km/h max speed while walking (not running!), then after walking for an hour it told me I had walked 350 meters.
* Sometimes, there is no sound in both Nimbuzz and Fring on calls via Skype and Google Talk. Often, the other party can hear me, but I cannot hear them (sometimes, neither side heard anything). Since this happens both with Fring and with Nimbuzz, it must be something in the phone.
* The spacebar is small. It is manageable, but small. Takes some time to get used to.
* On my (Israeli) edition, Hebrew (and ciphers) are in white, and English is in dark orange, which is almost unreadable. This is very annoying, since I, as - I imagine - most users of a phone like this, use English more than Hebrew. If anything annoys me, this is it. After a while of course, I don't need to look at the keys any more - but it's still annoying.
* The battery cover comes off easily, but *only* if you want it to. It will never fall off during normal use - only if you're actively and consciously touching the battery cover. I cannot imagine walking on the street, calling, and the battery cover suddenly falling on the sidewalk (which is the impression you get from some comments I read).
* I want to have flash off by default on the camera. Haven't yet found a way to do that.
If anyone has more questions, feel free to ask! Also, if you want to see 70 pictures and 4 videos shot with my E72, let me know and I'll send you the link to download them (219 MB).

Has anyone else been having battery problems with their N97 mini battery recently. It started 7 days ago for me. I unplugged my phone mid charge, and noticed that on my phone the battery icon was still moving as if it was charging. I thought it was cute because maybe the atmosphere or my charisma were still charging my phone for me. I restarted my phone and it returned to normal. The following day my phone did the same thing, only this time I didn't restart it, but eventually my phone ran out of charge. Since then the battery life on my phone has been very poor, I only get about 8 hours max, and thats when I have not been on the net or made anything more than one 10 minute phone call. The battery icon has stopped moving when its unplugged, but the battery life is terrible.I have updated my software today so I will monitor it, but seriously is there something up with my battery? It has left me short two days now where I am in town and my phone has died. I am not happy.Any suggestions people?

Me n my friend together brought a 5800 and 5233 a month ago.(mine is 5800)I'm not such an addicted phone user as him.i just use my phone for makin calls or textin whereas he always stays glued to facebook n other such things in his phone.shockingly even after all there,my phone's charge lasts hardly for a day but he gets a staggering 6 days from it.isn't it shame on nokia?? Both phones have the same battery specs.i'm really disappointed with nokia in this matter.after reading these threads i realize that this problem persists frm ever since the phone was launched!! Shame on nokia.they should have made the required changes as they made in 5233..

First of all I should say that i can't download anything from the market since August (or something like that), Zune's Team is trying to solve the problem since last week, but nothing worthy until now...
On the other hand since Monday but battery life has changed, and even with the full battery the prediction of time (displayed on settings menu) until it becomes empty is about 16 hours, nothing more. Before that I could see a prediction of more than 40 hours, and the phone used to last that long. Now, with the same applications, etc. it decreases drastically, should i send the phone for warranty?

battery run out very quickly. I had it charged last night and when I got up in the morning it was down to 35% from just sitting there. It might have been updating email but that shouldn't kill the battery like that. I don't use it that much during the day but it seems to go down really fast. I'm currently at 47% and it estimates 1 hour left....

I purchased my Lumia 610 about 2 weeks back, and I have not gotten a full day (24 hours) of work out of it yet. When charged to 100%, it shows 16-19 hours of battery life. My usage is typically around this:1 hour on the phone.15 minutes of Twitter. 15 minutes of browsing on 3G. No bluetooth/ WiFi/ Internet sharing on most days. Manual brightness setting. Battery Saver on. Dark backgroundLocation settings off. Email refresh after 1 hour. XBox signed out. I can't think of anything else I can do to reduce my power consumption. I'm using the firmware version 1066.0000.8779.12201, which according to my Customer care is the latest firmware version. Nokia claims a 720 hr standby time on 3G, which I am nowhere close to.

I've been testing the E72 for a client but we've now been through three of them because of poor battery life; battery life on limited usage (2 or 3 calls, 15 minutes of web browsing and business hours Exchange active sync) results in all examples struggling to make 8 hours before the battery dies - just 1.6% of the quoted ~500 hours standby figure - surely that's not right? There are no active wifi connections, which reminds me: on the E72, how do you enable 'flight mode' and separately, disable just the wifi?Current device software version is 021.024.207.01; it can't find any updates to it.

The phone has been dropped accidentally (from no great height and everything appeared to working fine) but now I've noticed the battery life will barely last 4 hours. Initially I put this problem down to the battery itself but after buying a brand new battery the same thing has started.
The battery will suddenly jump from half full on the indicator to empty, it'll then beep a few times over 5 minutes and then it'll be dead. On average I'm not having to charge the phone three times a day to use it.
