Motorola Motoactv :: Cycling Workout - Lap / Interval Speed Does Not Correlate
May 14, 2012
I have noticed that the average speed reported per lap/interval does not correlate with the graph. For example, I did an interval workout on my bike recently. As you can see from the image below, my average speed for interval 5 was 32.99 km/hr. I know this to be correct, because I was trying to keep my fast intervals at +30 km/hr, and could see this on my watch during the workout. However, as you can see, the graph seems to be displaying an average speed of around 13 km/hr, and shows that my speed never went about 20 km/hr.
This problem is happening for me on all of my cycling workouts, whether or not I have a scheduled interval routine or just autolap for 1km. For some of the intervals (maybe 5-10 %), the graph seems to be consistent with the average speed for the interval, but for the majority of intervals it is all messed up. I'm using the 8GB version with the latest software update. My .csv for the workout is also attached.
I have 4 zones setup in my pace zones: rest, walk, run, sprint.
I am trying to setup walk / run intervals at 2 minutes at my "walk" pace zone and 2 minutes at my "run" pace zone.
In the workout planner I am able to select the appropriate pace zone when setting up my interval workout, but the pace zone that I selected is not saved. I click save and re-enter the workout plan and the zones are defaulted back to my first zone of "rest."
Currently there is a maximum of 20 sets allowed to be set for an interval workout.increase this to something higher? 50, 100, infinite? I use the Galloway walk/run method and 20 sets doesn't get me very far when doing short walk/run intervals. I want to use this for a half marathon.
Why does one need to input a tire size for cycling if the GPS should track speed and distance? I owned a Garmin 205 and did not have a sensor. I only used the GPS and was able to track speed and distance very accurately. I tested the MOTOACTV in a car for 3.5 miles. For some reason the GPS was not tracking any information except the track, which was correct. Instead of 3.5 miles, it showed 0.51 miles. Will this also happen on the bike?
This weekend I did a long cycling tour with the MotoACTV and found out where the max battery life is for me. Without running any music, BT notifications off, and minimal screen usage, I got 8.5 hours of life (7 hours riding time) over 110 miles. There was just enough power to sync when I got home, and by the time I was in the shower, it was close to 0% an in the charger.I truly thought I was going to lose the last couple hours, but the device proved me wrong. Job well done. When I first did this with older software, I ran out of power at 5 hours. Software tweaks work!
I've just tried to do a cycling fitness test in a gym on a standard gym bike bike (lifecycle fitness) but it wouldn't let me start with just a HRM , it gave me a message saying I had to have a Bike Sensor. So is there no way to do a fitness test on a bike without having to spend more money? I do have a road bike, but I'd like the option to do this in a gym without shelling out more.i can see theres "stationary bike" profile, but this doesn't have the option for a fitness test.(BTW - I also tried a quick start indoors cycling workout and got the same message (connect a bike sensor to start an indoor ride)
I'm looking into buying a MotoActv but I can't get a clear answer from the product documentation is this device has an interval timer.uite simply, I want to set a time period (45 seconds) which counts down, sends a notification through the headphone (beep!) and rautomatically esets the timer and continues counting down. This seems pretty simple and there are some references to it but I'm hoping to get a straight yes/no before I buy. (Secondarly, if anyone has info about a version two coming down the line I'd love to hear about that as well - this seems like a great device and after spending the last week looking at EVERYTHING I can say it's an underserved market - just ready for a version 2 to really bring it home).
How to setup the interval training? This is what I'm trying to do total 6 mile run starting with 1 mile or so easy run. 3x1600w/800 cool down in between 1 mile or so easy ending run. How can I set this up or something similar.
Very innacurate readings. See below comparing MOTOACTV with my GARMIN 705and I know the garmin distance to be correct since I know the roads pretty well, and I created the routes using google mapsI expect some type of difference between GPS devices, for example my iphone using wahoo does not always agree witht he garmin, but the difference is less than 1%... with the MOTOACTV the difference is about 10%MOTOACTV (34 mi): https://motoactv.com/workout/show?orkoutActivityId=4QaHxB2cQMeiehkKHkX0MQ%3D%3D&activity=4GARMIN (30 mi): http://connect.garmin.com/activity/167586976MOTOACTV (44mi): https://motoactv.com/workout/showworkoutActivityId=26QvMGqURk6rA1hMEb4w1w%3D%3D&activity=4GARMIN (40 mi): http://connect.garmin.com/activity/167587461MOTOACTV (48mi): https://motoactv.com/workout/showworkoutActivityId=QxSBZlK%2FTr6vP9JT%2BAaNRA%3D%3D&activity=4
I noticed today an error on the portal when viewing Intervals. I was follwing a Carmichael run and so I tap the screen to start my first interval after I have warmend up.The portal is correctly showing my 4 High, and 4 Low intervals, and the duration is correct. What isn't correct is when I click on the first interval, it's starting from the time I started the run. Not from the time the interval started. Therefore, when viewing the graph info for that intevarl, it's looking at the wrong section of the graph.Basically, the portal needs to know what time into your workout the first interval started and use that as the offset for displaying the interval data on the graph.
I'm trying to enter a simple ladder (0,8km speed + 3min jog + 1 km speed + 3km jog + 1,2 km speed + 3 min jog, going down to 0.8). Simple enough, 5 activities, each an interval workout, one set, High based on distance, low based on time.
The unit doesnt tell you that you have finished a stage of your multi run
You need to pause then start the next session Then just the final kick in the nuts it doesnt tell you when to speed up or slow down like the Garmin does.
So I tried the Race Myself feature on my 20 mile bike this am. When I got done, I went through the "End Workout" selected an intensity and hit "Done"--but it did not record the workout--is that what it is supposed to do?? I figured it would at least record today's workout as a new workout.
I have the weather app on my 16G, and while I get weather updates every hour when I am just wearing the device, when I am in workout mode, I do not get the hourly weather updates consistently until I stop the workout. This isn't right is it? I should get the weather updates every hour regardless of mode.
Since there is no thermo on the Motoactv, I like to know the local temp while on long training rides.
I just got the Motoactv. I did my cardiopoint testing at Lifetime and the Motoactv does not sync with the enewleaf program. Some of my workouts have 3 different zone levels in one workout, how do I set that on a workout for the Motoactv?
I attempted to set up a multisport workout (10 minute warm up run, interval repeats, 10 minute cool down) and ran it today. I must have mis-configured the workout because the device did not auto start the interval activity after the warm-up run. So, I just started a new, quick-start workout for my intervals and cool-down.I've been working on a script to convert the csv data to .tcx data (I have several years of fitness data in .tcx already), and was hoping to stitch the workouts together. When I sync'ed to the motoactv site, I couldn't access the botched multi-sport workout. The site displayed an error that read something to the effect of "Workout contains no raw data". I deleted the workout from the site and was hoping to re-upload since the activity is still on my device. But it looks like it won't sync again.
Is there a way to delete a workout form the history either on the device or on [URL].. When I first got the unit, I checked it out on 3-4 different workouts of about 1 minute each.
I had no problem with the site until today. After synchronize my last run , I tried to see the details but stop with an error showing: "Unable to process the request". I deleted the cache an all the cookies but without success.
I created a biking workout that had 3 stages. Stages 1 and 3 in zone 1 and stage 2 in zone 2. When I used it, the Heart rate zones that were displayed on the watch had nothing to do with my HR zones that I had entered in the website. HR zone for stage 1 was 170-190! HR zone for stage 2 was 115-126. Neither of these correspond to my zones
I would like to know how to set the default workout type. I remember doing this once and can't remember how. I was able to set the default workout to cycling and the cyclist graphic would show up in the user interface rather than the runner graphic. When I selected workout cycling would be the default choice.
All of my runs start and end in the same place (in reality). However, the last n minutes (or miles?) of every run seem to be getting lost somewhere. The problem exists in both the device and on the site, so I'd assume it's getting lost in the device.
Is there anyway to make a workout end at a distance? I set my Motoactv to 5 miles and when it tells me the workout is completed I stop it but it always shows a sixth mile.
In the midst of marathon training the last two weekends, I've gone to pause my MOTOACTV during a 12 miler and 13 miler when waiting at a stoplight, yet in both cases the MOTOACTV ended my workouts!
This is without me hitting "end workout" on the screen..
Have you noticed that sometimes when you log into [URL] and try to create a customized workout that you are given different options? Sometimes I'm allowed to create and label an interval segment as a "warmup" and sometimes I can't. Sometimes I can create a single interval segment and sometimes I can only create interval segments in "sets". I'm wondering if Motorola is making updates to the site based on this new functionality? Also, I would like to request to be able to repeat more than 2 intervals at a time. I have many cardio clients that I will have them perform a set of 3-5 different intervals and then repeat. I don't believe I can create a workout on [URL] that will allow me to do that, can I?
I cannot pull up my run from today in the portal. When I go to the page I get "Unable to process the request" in the modal. I checked the return result of the ajax request and the here is the data
I've been using my MotoACTV for just over a month and I've been running a sync over wifi after each workout. I took the device on holiday with me for 2 weeks and tracked ~5/6 runs on the device while I was away. I just ran a sync via the USB when I got back and it looks like it's lost the data for the 5/6 runs. The data isn't online and they are no longer appear to be on the device
This particular bug isn't a show stopper by any means, but I thought I would bring it to your attention. On my way to work this morning, I forgot to end my workout. Luckily for me, Auto-pause had paused it for about an hour and a half before I remembered to hit "End Workout." As you can see from the screenshot below, the portal seems aware of the fact that the workout was only 37 minutes long, but the graph is displayed as if it were a 2 hour workout. "Elapsed" time for mouseovers is also incorrect.
when I create a Workout my Heart Rate Zones are incorrect. I'm using the Custom Zones and have them set as Active. I created a workout and downloaded it to my MotoActv, but when I started the workout, it did the intervals correctly however the Heart Rate Zones were way too high. i.e., it had my Zone2 starting at 200 which is higher than my max heart rate of 189 so it wasn't effective in telling me when I was in the right zones. However, when I quick start a workout, it uses my correct zones.
