Motorola Droid Bionic :: Check For Updates Is Not Available
Oct 22, 2012
When I try to do a system update on my Bionic(Menu | Settings | About phone | System Updates)I receive a message saying Check for updates is not available at this time. This has been the situation since updating to .902.There were so many reported problems with .905 that I just decided not to update to that version but would like to try the new ICS.By the way, except for this glitch my Bionic has always worked well. How do I get System Updates to work?I've tried pulling the battery, the SD card and the SIM card per other discussions but that did not work.Don't really want to lose everything on my phone to do an update.
so, yesterday afternoon, i factory reset my dx2. i suddenly started having issues while walking through setup. original ota gb, no hacks, no roots.i was able to successfully set up my google account, opt to skip verizon backup, & then it gives me a connectivity error w/ (3) options of "retry", "setup wifi", & "skip". the setup skips the screen to set up my various 3rd party accounts such as Internet, facebook, yahoo, picasa, etc. when attempting to setup my accounts via "settings" afterward, it only lists (6) of the typical 12-15 options.this just started yesterday for me & did not occur on the previous 5 factory resets performed over the last week.
the error screen presented during setup after electing to skip backup assistant states something about "connectivity is required to complete setup", giving me (3) options. "retry", "setup wifi", & "skip". "retry" & "setup wifi" are still unsuccessful. selecting "skip" bypasses the ability to set up accounts.additionally, once on the home profile, "system update" states that a "motorola service account is required", giving me the same options as during setup. "retry", "setup wifi", & "skip". and trying to "add accounts" via "settings" only displays (6) available types, half of which give intermittent crazy errors about "problems with my clock on this device." or "timed out" & "your account may not be successfully setup".
I live out in the boonies in Montana. I'm on an "Extended Network". They only way I can get my Razr Maxx to check for updates is to put it in Airplane mode, then turn on my wifi. Only then does the option to check for updates become available. If this is the only way I can check for an update, am I stuck waiting until either Verizon or Moto puts the update out for manual pulling of the update? I don't think it will get pushed to me while i'm on an extended network
For a few weeks I've been checking for the update and it's STILL saying "check for update is not available at this time. Try again later." Anyone know if a factory data will fix thus and let me pull the update? Im getting fast fed up with this. Ihad all the faith in the world that this update would redeem the bionic of it's failings but IT CAN'T EVEN GET THE UPDAT
I noticed this last night, it may not be when it actually started though. When I am connected to WiFi my 3G icon disappears. If I turn off the WiFi my 3G pop backs on fairly quickly. This is how my Milestone X used to work and I noticed as soon as I got my Bionic that the 3G icon would stay on even when connected to WiFi even though it wasn't actually being used. Now sometimes at night it would disappear which I always attributed to the battery saver settings, but then today it is the same, which has never happened. When connected to WiFi the 3G icon is gone. I actually prefer it this way, and I'm not complaining, but I have not received any updates or anything so I don't know why this would have changed.
I thought it was just part of the initial boot after upgrading to ICS, but my Bionic becomes almost unresponsive when the application updates commence. Doesn't really seem to matter how big of an update -- I can't pull down the status bar, task switching appears frozen, etc.
I bought my Bionic in September new from Verizon. I have not received a single system update since getting the phone and am still on version 5.5.886.XT875. Why am I not getting updates?
Currently, if I try to force an update, I get "Check for update is not available at this time. Try again later." I have been trying for the past 48 hours.
I've had my Droid Bionic since October 2011 and I have tried to run a system update once or twice a month but it never finds an update. It is always stuck on "Checking for available update. Please wait..." And the little loader circle is spinning. I've tried checking for updates on different Wifi networks and everyone is the same. I am still on 5.5.886.
Has there been any OTA updates since release?I bought mine the day of release from Costco and it is system version 5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US.When ever I click on "System Updates", it brings up a dialog that says "Check for update is not available at this time.Try again later."Does this mean that there have been no updates, or that my updates are broken?
I just paid my Verizon Bill... and it had me Elegible for an Upgrade.. it still says July 2012.. but it also has a note You are eligible for an Upgrade. It has been a year on My Line.. and I had complained they did awaw with the VIP.. and the New Every 2.. The words New Every 2 are Back on my page also. So I am asking.. If you have checked your Status lately.?
On Bionic the Music app is just "Music". The Google cloud music app is "Music". Having apps with exactly the same name is problematic. (Voice commands and such) One had to go and only one could be uninstalled. A simple app update could possibly be an easy fix. At a Verizon store today I was checking out the RAZR. The OS music app on the RAZR is "My Music". Lost Confidence Bionic Will Get Timely Updates
I haven't been pushed updates 5.9.901 or 5.9.902 from Verizon. Is there anyway I can manually install these? I have tried going into settings and pulling them down but it says my phone is up to date even though I have 5.5.893 currently.
You guys think it would be possible for forum members to get auto pushed updates once builds become official? This would be a massive perk to being a member of these forums.
When a new update gets sent to my Bionic, do I have the option to accept/delete it? This is my first new smart phone and I'm just trying to figure out if I have control over the update or not.
Most of the time, when I have multiple updates, the phone will download some, then stop. It tells me an item is downloading, but it never does. I stop it and start it, and it downloads instantly.
After doing recent updates, the normal swipe-to-unlock feature of my Bionic stopped working. When I press the power button, I'm taken right to the home screen; I don't have to unlock. Even if I use Settings -> Location & Security and add a PIN or pattern lock, these do not work; each time I turn the phone back on, I go right back to the home. Sometimes the swipe screen flashes up but then disappears. The "Security lock timer" setting does not matter (i.e. it is set to 1 minute, but even after that, the phone is never locked. Occurs even after a hard reboot (shutdown, remove battery, power back up), although sometimes the swipe to unlock works for a short time. I've never rooted this phone or done much else beside install some apps from the Android Market. I do have Lookout running.
This morning I thought I'd check for updates, but was surprised to find that the "System updates" option on the "About phone" option from the Settings menu is disabled (greyed out).
I am currently "roaming" in Canada and have network data disabled, but am using WiFi. Could my location be impacting this? I have done a reboot.
Meanwhile my LTE XOOM still has the corresponding option available, but it has not connected to the network at all (data roaming disabled) since I have been in Canada.
I have three accounts on my phone for email. I have always received updates based on my gmail account. It worked that way on my Droid 1, and it still does on my Asus Transformer. All of a sudden, I'm getting reminders for updates on my other two email accounts. It will say "1 update on xxxx. 1 update on yyyy. 3 updates on gmail.I can't find a setting to get rid of the other accounts. The "account" item in the settings ask me to choose which account. The gmail account is chosen. The others aren't (radio button, can't have more than one even if I wanted that).
i thought maybe it was because of no 3/4G coverage, but just moments ago, after removing/reinstalling the SIM card, I just got 4G back and still can't check for updates. I hope my replacement phone doesn't suffer from this glitch. this is getting very aggravating! I've been without data coverage since Weds morning, other than for a few moments, here and there and only after a SIM card pull.
This occurred after I installed few applications with the version that came with the phone in February. After the upgrade to gingerbread, it worked for a few days then acted up again. After a hard reset to factory, all working and the applications that seem to mess with the updater are weather related; my most suspicion is the Go Weather but cant isolate it for sure!
Just checked on my Xoom for updates and I get an error message syaing: "Unable to check for updates at present. Please try again later." Could this mean that ICS is about to be rolled out to UK Xooms.
My daughters both have 9300's One is running on 6.0 2949 the other 9300 will not let me upgrade from 5.0 1399. When I plug phone into PC and check for updates I get message saying no Blackberry updates
My only "complaint" is that whenever a call comes in or when I make a call, it always has it on the phonespeaker and not over the car dock audio connected to the radio. I have to press the speaker button to turn it off each time.way to have it default to the speaker being off?
Does anyone know of any surefire way to transfer files to and from the Bionic to a windows 7 PC?
I have been using Zumocast, but that's only a one way deal. You can stream and download files from PC onto the Bionic, but not vice versa. Also, I tried to download a 1.4 gig mp4 file but it doesn't fully download, and makes my notification area on my Bionic force close and the whole phone just wigs out and requires a reboot. So Zumocast needs to do some updates in order to support large file transfer.
Anyway, I am looking for a way to transfer files from my phone to my computer(s) wirelessly. I don't always have my USB cable around.
Im having the same issue as a lot of other people (so i read). Mine has progressively gotten worse. My data connection shows active (sometimes it doesnt) but I cannot transfer data. After multiple restarts/battery pulls, i have data connection but NO app will transfer data except the web browser and dolphin. Even Gmail will not sync. So i can surf the web, but cant check my gmail app, pageonce, etc, etc. Wifi/bluetooth work fine. MOST of the time I can still text / make calls but not always.
I am hesitant to do a factory reset as the last time i did this, it did not change the problem and i was stuck with nothing because i had no data connection to connect to my google account with (nor wifi, i was on vacation).
I can get a 4G signal rarely in home. At work and mobile I am usually 4G.I expect to be on 4G for a few years (5G anytime soon?) and was thinking of spending $$$ on a Wilson repeater to pick up 4G with a directional antenna and amplifier for home: url...I am a licensed Amateur Radio operator and the principals involved seemed sound to me.Also, does anyone know how to put the Bionic into Field Test Mode?
Has anyone had a lot of luck with Zumocast on the Bionic playing differenct CODECS? I seems to work awesome but has some CODEC limitations, is there any way to use another video player other then the default Android one (which it appears to be utilizing)?
Any one have any luck getting the FIOS Remote app working on their Bionic? I got it downloaded and followed all the directions but it wouldn't sync up. Home net is a std Verizon issued router (only thing custom is the net name, channel, and crypto key) and the Bionic is able to get on the wifi no problem.
