Moto X (2014) :: How To Get Lollipop (Force System Update)
Dec 13, 2014
I just received my new Moto X second generation (AT&T ) yesterday and would like to download lollipop. However, system update keeps saying that I have the latest software. I don't suppose there is a way to force the system update.
I just recently updated my Moto x 2014 to lollipop and noticed there is two icons for the photo app in my app drawer. They both bring you to the stock photo app.
I've started having a problem with my Moto X (2014) since upgrading to Lollipop (or shortly after). When I received a voicemail I cannot get rid of the notification unless I restart my phone.
I'm using my phone in the UK on the EE 4G network. I'm using Android 5.0 which is the latest update available.
Having read through advice given to others in this and other forums and spoken to Motorola customer support, I've tried the following:
1. Leaving myself an additional message, listening to it, deleting it. The new voicemail notification arrives but does not clear after deleting the message.
2. Rebooting to safe mode which clears the notification on the reboot, but once I have another voicemail the same thing happens again. This rules out one of my third party apps causing the problem.
Noticed since the Lollipop update that if you spend some time in an app and then return to the home screen, it needs a second or two to redraw everything? It's like the phone isn't keeping the home screen in its memory.
The same for actual apps, too. Every single time I return to Chrome, it needs to reload the page. Or if I open, say Gmail, it's not as quick to open and needs an extra second or two to load up.
I was using Nova Launcher and switch to the stock Google Now launcher thinking it would solve the problem, but no dice.
After upgrading to 5.1 lollipop my Moto x 2014 is showing some problems like screen blinking on the lock screen and few others. I think that reinstalling the software will fix it because when I upgraded last time from WiFi, I did it in parts. May that caused these issues. How to reinstall this.
Just noticed that sounds will start out at a low volume for first 2 seconds then jump to normal volume thereafter. It is easily reproduced by choosing ringtone sound and previewing or setting countdown timer in the clock app and listening to the expiration alarm. Checked sound and notification settings and didn't see any choice for turning a feature like this on or off.
I press a phone number link in Chrome. Have Hangouts Dialer installed. Android asks me which dialer, I select "Hangouts Dialer" and "Always". But it doesn't stick. I've cleared cache and reinstalled Hangouts Dialer several times. Still doesn't stick.
There's supposedly a new thing in Marshmallow called System UI Tuner that allows you to alter what's in your status bar etc. I've updated to Marshmallow today but I can't get this setting to activate. You supposedly have to hold your finger on the settings cog in the drop down notification menu for a few seconds and then the system ui tuner is supposed to appear as a new menu in the main settings menu (much like developer options appears when you activate that). But it doesn't work. I thought maybe it was just something that was in the early developers versions of Marshmallow and maybe it got shelved in the end, but after doing a Google search I find that it's still supposed to be there and working in the final release.
We all have the 2nd gen moto ask what lollipop 5.0 installed. Of course there are two ways to manage tabs in Chrome browser the old traditional way, and then the overview mode. Just curious as to which one everyone prefers. The overview mode is lollipop based but at the same token, you can lose track of how many times you actually have open.
32 gig custom made 2nd gen Moto X by moto maker running lollipop 5.0
I purchased the Moto X second edition unlocked pure version, from Motorola web site. For a month I was able to run on KitKat without any issues. After I have upgraded to Lollipop (5.0) I am seeing an exclamation point next to the data icon. Sometimes it takes a minute sometimes maybe 5 minutes to be able to use my data plan and access the internet!
There were situations when I could not even make a call. When switching to WIFi mode I am able to use the phone to full capability. It is just when I am trying to use my carrier's network when I have a problem. It is not related to the amount of data available, it reacts the same when I am at 100mba or 4 Gba.
"Google Services" is constantly my biggest battery drain. It is consistently 2x more than the next biggest power hungry app "Google Search". These two apps together account for 40% OF MY BATTERY LIFE LOST. I did a factory reset with no impact. The battery screenshots I see here from others never seem to reflect what I am seeing - the screen is always the biggest drain, which I would expect.
My X sees light to moderate use with 2 SOT usually.
Says I have 10 GB left but I'm getting a notification saying "Not Enough Storage Space for System" and another notification saying "Storage Space Running Out". This is causing super slow boot up, terrible battery life, the back of the phone is hot, email not syncing, laggy everything. I tried a cache wipe and cleaning files using All-in-one toolbox. Phone died and this is what happened when I tried booting up after a charge. Any way before a factory reset?
I have a moto x that I've had for about a year. I'm on AT&T. Last weekend it upgraded to lollipop.
Now I'm having an issue where it won't stop chiming at every little thing. I've turned off all notifications. But when I do anything with it, it chimes with a dink dink sound. I wake it up, it dinks. I'm sitting here typing this message, and it dinks. The only app that I like to notifications for is my SMS app handsent. It has a different chime for when I get a message. So now I get 2 chimes when I get a message; the desired chime, and the new one.
I've cleared all my cache, I've rebooted, I've tried everything.
I tried to load the latest lollipop on my moto x 2014, while loading through recovery - update from SD, it said "failed" and rebooted and now stuck at Moto logo and that's it.....i tried to clear cache and wipe....reboot, nothing.
People suggested to sideload through ADB the original image, but ADB cant seem to find the device.
I updated my Moto X this morning and I can't get the phone to go into recovery mode so I can clear the cache. Every time I select the recovery option following the standard procedure it just shuts down. It never did that on lollipop...
My moto x 2014 with Lollipop is constantly redrawing the home screen and closes background apps very quickly. I tried to use runtastic yesterday and it kept closing when ever I put it to the background. I check the ram and usually have 600mb free. Is there a way to get it to use all that ram?
I got the notification for the Android 5.1 update. I started downloading it but I cancelled it while it was downloading because I remembered that my phone was close to dead. Now when I got back home, I go to System Updates in settings and it says my phone is up to date but the OS is 5.0.1 ....
Noticed very slow WiFi post the 5.1 update? I have done several speed tests and am getting under 1 mbps. My laptop and desktop both on the same wireless connection are pulling over 8 mbps.
I was prompted to update my MotoX yesterday 12/09/15 and wow - what a pain! The home button no longer works to go home and has another completely useless function (Now on Tap?) when it is long held. Might have value for some people but I just want the home button to take me home. I can't find anywhere how to disable or reprogram it.
Also NONE of the external links are working in any of my email programs or Facebook. When I tap on them, most of them open up Chrome but don't actually go to the correct website - Chrome opens to the Google search or the last webpage I was viewing. Copy and paste does work when the website address is there but links from facebook aren't able to be copied.
I have cleared the cache in Recovery mode to no effect. Multiple reboots have not corrected anything. Uninstalling email programs and reinstalling them also did not work.
I've been having issues since I did the Froyo update on my Blue Tick upgraded Telstra defy. Australian users will know what I mean by that. I did a hard reset soon after the froyo update because a few strange things were happenning. The hard reset seemed to resolve my issues.
But now I need to reboot my phone on average once per day. I get google system processes force closing randomly. It usually happens when I'm not even using the phone. I'll pick it up to use it and there'll be a force close message. Stuff like Swype will also randomly force close. When this stuff starts to happen, a heap of my apps won't open. They just force close straight away. When I reboot everything is fine for about another 24 hours, then another google system process will force close and it all starts to happen again.
Has anyone had anything similar happen? Is there any point in doing another hard reset? I can't really see why it would make any difference doing it again. I'm currently in the middle of reformatting my sd card to see if that makes any difference.
The android system (6.0) update notification came on my phone yesterday (Moto X Pure 2015). Since I couldn't connect to a WiFi where I was, I decided to switch to my cellular data. But as soon as I did that the notification disappeared. I tried finding it on my phone settings, where you go to settings-->about phone-->system updates. It says my device it upto date. How can I retrieve the notification? I was waiting for my android OS update for a month and then this happened.
So I understand Priority Notifications is the new 'silent' mode but I can't get it working so that it has the same functionality as older Android versions.
I've set all priority notifications (events / calls / messages) off and choose to turn on priority notifications indefinitely but each day it reverts back to 'all' so I have to remember to turn it on every day.
Also, when in an app (e.g WhatsApp) and a new message comes through, it still makes a noise even though it's in priority notifications mode!
Pre-Lollipop, I was able to have a different ringtone for each contact. This was set in the 'Contacts' app. I can't seem to see how to do this in Lollipop.
2014 Moto X running Lollipop won't auto rotate. Done all the usual stuff (reboot, reflash, cycle the auto rotate button). The problem is system wide and not application specific. Found some posts out on the web about the same problem but all the threads were dead ends.
I have a Moto X 2nd gen, which I got yesterday, and I got the upgrade to lollipop. It seems like my heads up display only works when I have a call, but when I get a text, I don't get the heads up display, just a notification which forces me to leave the app I'm in to reply, rather than just replying right there with the heads up. I was wondering why this was happening?
