Lumia 1520 :: Cannot Open High Resolution Photos After Deleting Low Resolution Versions
Jul 29, 2014
Did I miss the memo that says deleting lo-res photos will somehow not allow one to open the hi-res versions? I have the 1520 connected to my Windows 7 PC (via USB) and wanted to keep the hi-res versions only, so I deleted the lo-res ones. The hi-res files still appear as physical files in file explorer with multiple megabytes but no preview/ thumbnail (same as before). I can't transfer them to an empty folder on my Desktop or to Imgur, nothing happens, not even an explanation. I checked my recycle bin and the lo-res files are no where to be found.
I have Lumia Camera Beta set to 5MP/16MP and the low res is usually around 1.6MP and high res is never larger than 5.4MP. I've tried everything, from the MS app to the normal Lumia app and even reset the camera to default, with no luck...
I still have not figured out what is the most efficient way to transfer the highly resoluted pictures taken with my Lumia 1520 to my Surface Pro.
Inarguably, I've adjusted the settings on my Lumia 1520 to save both a 5MP and a highly resoluted picture. Also, the automatic OneDrive upload is enabled. However, the pictures on OneDrive seem not to be the highly resoluted ones. There are files to be found with something like "_high" on my Lumia 1520 but transferring them manually is painstaking as they are among many other different files (e.g. thumbnails).
I noticed that sometimes when an app is loading after selecting it from the app store, the icon is very high res when it has the loading bar. After the app loads and installs, the icon makes a noticable shift to a low res version. It is definitely not because the icon is grayed out, you can visibly see the switch from high res to low res.Anyone know how to fix this?No idea why an icon would show in high res then switch for no reason.
I have a problem with camera of 920. I can't take high resolution photo. They are always of 1278x720 and of small mb size (200-400mb). So when i zoom in they are with poor details. I have not found settings to change photo resolution and so i don't know how to take better photo.
Today I acquired a Lumia 1020, black, from the at&t store. Have to admit, I was super excited until I got home and saw the images this thing produces. Maybe I got a bad phone, but I doubt it. The images are incredibly noisy, and I expected much better.I'm looking at the images with high-res in the file name. And all of these were on automatic settings (except for one or two where I turned the flash to "assist only".)
Is it this bad everywhere? Maybe a bad phone? The images is horribly oversampled and pixelated even at low zoom levels, or default "just looking at the picture". My Lumia 920 doesn't look like this on normal photos (when you don't zoom in). URL...
I have read lot of reviews of great 41MP Camera of Lumia1020. I can take both the pictures (seen in the camera settings and tried). Both the pics look exactly same on the phone screen and there is no meaning of so hyped 'zoom, reframe, crop, edit' thing. I can only do this on the 5MP from my phone readily if I want to share the different angled shot or something.
Have tried downloading 34MP highres pictures on PC and they look not very different from the 5MP ones. It's a great botheration for me at least as I can't show my friend's the great 41MP pictures on my phone and then zoom them to see close ups. All I can do is see the 5MP pictures (although great quality, beyond imagination of any other camera phone brand right now). How to successfully exploit the 34Mega Pixels on phone screen right after the shot is taken and should look better than 5MP.
I tried,so many photography apps..certain apps good, but, the problem is,when we save after we make editing in that apps, they save my photo in low resolution..
I am not talking about the 5mp shots the phone creates. When my wife uploades or mms a picture or video they are terrible. Is there something in the settings I need to adjust? If I send it to my phone over bluetooth is looks amazing still.
Just switched from Note 4 to S6. So problem is i have some great high-res wallpapers and when i set it as wallpaper it's not showing in high quality, I didn't had that problem on Note.
When i look at the same image in gallery it's stunning, but when it's set up as a wallpaper its not that sharp as it should be. Same probelm in TW and in Nova Launcher.
This is how it looks in gallery. Sharp and no problems. [URL] .....
This is how it looks as wallpaper, blurred and not sharp. Notice red eye sharpness. Not that visible on PC but problem is there. [URL] ....
I wonder if it is possible to change maximum video capturing resolution (programmably) from 640x480 @30fps to lets say 720x480 @ 25 fps (720p would be beyond my expectations anyway). I guess there should not be any dramatic quality drop because of 5 fps, but the quality of picture will be somewhat better - similar to DVD resolution.

When you sync photos to a current iPhone, iTunes changes them to low resolution. Will this change with the iPhone 4?
If you take a pic with the camera it lands in the camera roll. If I email it I get the option to send the "Original" (2592x1936 @ 72dpi). If I then take it out of the camera roll and copy it to a folder that syncs back to the phone and I try to email it, it then shows the original as 2056x1536 @ 72dpi. The original on the computer stays at the original resolution of 2592x1936 but iTunes re-reses it on the fly. Does anyone know of a way to stop iTunes from optimizing (changing the resolution) of the photos being copied back? I like to keep the camera roll empty and reorganizing the photos into folders.
I was recently noticing some differences in the pictures saved in the stock S6 Gallery app and those backed up in the Google Photos app. Even though I have the Photos app set to upload "full size"... there is a noticeable difference when it comes to clarity and ability to zoom. Is there a fix that I am simply overlooking? Because it's not even close to be honest.
My wife is trying to create a photo book on shutterfly, and pictures taken with her 1020 and uploaded to onedrive are fine, but any photos taken with my 1520 will not upload. I tried opening them up in Lightroom, and they will not work in there either unless I first download them from onedrive. Once I download them, open them in lightroom, and export them from lightroom, they work fine.
I cannot understand why a phones camera software does not allow the user to lower the resolution below the max resolution. The Lumia 710 only allows 5MP res. in 4:3 format. WHY?? And I cannot find an app that easily allows the res. to be lower than 5MP.Is there anything in the works, ie. camera software update that will allow for lower resolution pics? I use this feature for work and 1.3MP was sufficient for my needs, and when archiving my photos didn't take up 1+MB per pic on my hard drive.I may have to go back to my C7 belle.
why can't I change the resolution in the photo camera? If I choose video I can select resolution, but on photo I cannot, there is no option. This is not ok, my phone took the last photos both in landscape and portrait at 1280x720 / 720x1280 resolution. If it has 8mpx why can't I benefit from this res?? who from Nokia had this brilliant idea of taking out the option to select the photo resolution??
My lumia 920 will only send video I have recorded on the phone in low res, not the hd the phone has recorded. Is there a setting I can change to send in HD by default?
I've done a good deal of testing with the 1020. Shown is a resolution test with the 1020 in DNG mode. I judge the resolution at 100 LP/mm ( 35mm equivalent ). For comparison, my 14MP Sigma only makes it to about 50. My friends 20MP Canon earns about 65. 35mm color print film maxes out at about 85 and Tech Pan, 120. I use my 1020 in JEPG mode which yields about 90 but is considerably faster and less noisy than DNG mode. All these tests are " apples to apples ". In other words, the test chart fits the frame on all devices.
Just upgraded, recently, to a flash new 1520 and I absolutely love it! So big, clear and brilliant to use. However I have just discovered, this morning, that I cannot fix or set the camera function in one particular area.
I noticed that a 5mp photo gets saved along with a high-def photo when I use the Pro Cam - which I don't want to stop using because I love it - but when I went into the settings of it, I found that I cannot only keep the high-def photo alone, it is either the small res photo alone or the small and high def together and that's it, I cannot just save the high-def photo alone and if I delete the photo, they both delete.
Is there any way I can just save the high-def photo alone, by downloading an app of some sort? Would a photo file manager work? I just don't see the point in putting such a fabulous camera on a phone and having it automatically set with such odd options.
