LG G4 :: Proximity Sensor Always On When Screen Is Off
Sep 11, 2015
LG g4 proximity sensor always on when screen is turned off.
If the screen is on, but before unlock, proximity sensor is on as well. It will turn off only after unlock the screen to home screen.
Will it cause battery drain and infrared light burned out/dead after being *"ON" all the time?
It is infrared, so you can only tell if you use another camera or phone look at it. it is easy to test, just look proximity sensor with another camera or phone camera (that can see infrared, can be test with your TV remote)....

Issue with the proximity sensor shutting the screen off when you're about to key something in or multi task while on a call? The phone keeps shutting the screen off while I'm on call. This usually happens when I have to use the phone to search for something or enter in a number, multi task, enter extension ...

When talking on the screen are activated any keys - the media, the button to turn off the microphone. Sometimes when you dial and put the phone to the ear he cut off talks. Proximity sensor works and the screen fades to where my ear. I do not know how to obtain it but it is very nasty. Version of software after the update is 30.0.003 but the problem remained.

I have noticed that when I start a call and put the phone to my head (or hand above the sensor) that the screen stays on. I do know that the phone's "pocket mode" works, which tells me that the proximity sensor is functioning. Faulty or non-existant software for the phone app?

Proximity sensor in my lumia 920 turns the screen off even when i am holding the phone in my hand and am looking at it. It should turn it off only when I hold it up against my ear. This is verry annoying as I cannot get to the incall screen at all, not even to disconnect the call. I have to wait till the other party hangs up so that my screen can return back.

My X10 with 2. 1 doesn't lock the touch screen when I'm on a call. When I'm done with the call the phone is in various places on the phone book. The phone is set to lock at 2 minutes for various reasons and I don't want to change that only when I'm on the phone call.

During outgoing calls, the screen rarely, if ever, turns off due to the proximity sensor - I need to manually do it using the screen lock button. However, with incoming calls, the screen turns off fine (due to the proximity sensor). For both incoming and outgoing calls, it is often impossible to get the screen to light again once it is off.Initially I thought my proximity sensor might be faulty, but the proximity sensor works perfectly in the diagnostics app. So it seems to be a software issue.

Does the Corby Pro have a proximity sensor that automatically locks the screen when you're talking on the phone? If not, would that present a problem?

My iPhone's proximity sensor has all of a sudden started sticking to "screen off" even after I remove it from my ear. It's getting very annoying, especially when calling companies with those menu driven phone answering systems. Anyway, does anyone else have the same problem?

My problem is the screen goes blank when making a call and does not wake up. I cannot therefore use the keypad or terminate a call.I replaced the screen a while back and everything worked fine for 5 months until now.I am looking to disable the proximity sensor as it does not work so the screen is then on all the time when making a call.I have not been able to do it through settings so is there an app that would do the trick.Model is D855

Noticing someting wierd with my new iPhone 4 - the proximity sensor doesn't seem to work well (or at all..)When the phone is up against my ear or if I'm cradling the phone between my ear and shoulder the proximity sensor should disable the screen and touch controls until it detects that I've pulled the phone away from my head. My iPhone 3G excelled at this. My iPhone 4 however seems to want to keep the screen on at all times, causing "cheek dialing" issues, mostly trying to initiate FaceTime.
Anyone else experiencing this?

So I've had my iPhone 4 for a day or so now and have noticed the proximity sensor is much weaker and you have to be pushing your head against the actual phone and that when I have speakerphone turned on the mic does not work. This problem is only confined to speakerphone, the mic works in every other situation even on skype speakerphone works.

I have fixed my proximity sensor and can now make calls without hanging up/muting etc. I was having severe problems with the proximity sensor on my IPhone 4. During calls my ear was hitting mute, end call, face time etc. Today I had the hardware replaced at a retail store and restored a backup. The problem remained. Then I read a post on this site suggesting resetting the network settings and thought, why not, Apple had no fix.
Before I started I tested and recorded that the proximity sensor required my hand to be about 5mm above the sensor before it kicked it and blanked the screen. Then I used Settings/General/Reset/ Reset network settings. After this the proximity sensor worked at about 3cm under exactly the same conditions. I have continued using the phone including setting my WiFi password which had been cleared.
This wont clear everyone's problems but: As it takes 30 seconds and doesn’t wipe your phone, give it a try before sitting on the phone to Apple, driving to the Apple store etc. Besides they don’t have a fix yet. My testing pretty much proved that for me, changing hardware didn't help but a configuration change did. Therefore even though other users may have other setting, which in combination with a complex bug mean this fix doesn't work for them, it is a software bug in some cases, probably most. So Apple should work this out in the end and post an update to the OS.
If this fix doesn’t work for you and you want to do something, test your sensor by starting a call, leaving the speakerphone off and putting three fingers over the top of the phone covering the entire phone above the screen. If the screen blanks when your hand is close but comes on when less than a couple of centimetres away, then see if a software fix helps. Take a backup and then wipe the phone and then retest.

My big beef with the phone is the proximity sensor and if I'm in a call longer than 5 minutes, I can pretty much rock the phone off my ear ever so slightly and the screen comes on. My only fear is that once I get it there, the genius won't be able to replicate my problem and tell me it's fine.
Basically I'm asking for advice/tips on what to say to this guy (I've never been to an Apple Store and I haven't heard how nice the people are in the Florida Mall) so I don't overreact to whatever this guy is going to say to me.
I'm also curious to know if anyone else has had Apple replace the phone for this specific issue because I seem to be the only one out of my batch of friends that is having this problem. Even when I use their phones, I cant seem to find an issue.
Again, any advice is greatly appreciated.

I've noticed that when I talk on my left ear (which is how I always talk), I have CRAZY problems with the proximity sensor. I cannot go through even ONE call without either putting them on speakerphone, hanging up, going into contacts or dialing numbers by accident. However, when talking on my right ear, no problems at all it seams. I don't know why but it's annoying as I can't talk on my right ear, it just doesn't feel right and I'm not used to it.What have your guys' experiences been with this?

I have an LG G4 since December 2015 and like many people I found out that "Double tap" to wake the device does not always work. So, I ditched this feature and used only the power button to wake the device. The problem is that even the power button does not always wake the device, many times, a second push being needed to successfully wake the phone.I even called LG support and scheduled a visit to the service center.
Today I think I found the reason why the power button does not always work, at least for my device.I usually leave my G4 with the front facing down, on the desk. When I hear a notification alert or the phone rings, I grab the phone and press the power button while it is still facing down on the desk. Many times in this situation the phone will not wake up.So I started thinking it has something to do with the proximity sensor. To test this, I covered the whole top of the phone (front side) with my palm and pressed the power button. No matter how many times I would press it, the phone will not wake up. At this moment, I will start distancing my palm from the phone while pressing the button every second.Only after the palm is at a considerable distance from the proximity sensor would the phone wake up.I thought about a feature in Android "prevent accidental wake up" but Marshmellow does not have this feature or I could not find it in Settings.
I tried searching the web for other G4 users having the same problem, but found none. Found a couple of posts about the button being defective and a couple of posts about screen protector causing the screen to not wake up after a call or interfering with taps on screen.
So the question is: It is normal for the phone to NOT wake up using the power button if the proximity sensors detects something close to the phone, like the surface of the desk?I could understand "Double tap" not working while proximity sensor detects something and that is why I am not using that feature anymore, but power button? It is working as intended? It is only my device?

So I cracked my phone a while ago, had the screen replaced at a local place and the screen looks fine, the phone functions almost 100% perfectly.Â
Â
The thing that bugs me is that the phone seems to have the proximity sensor always on. When I answer a call, the screen turns black, and I am unable to turn the screen on until the call ends. I would rather just have the proximity sensor completely off. I just want my screen to be on when I'm on calls, or at least able to turn on with the power button.Â

I accidentally dial a number and the entire phone locks, I cannot end the call and I cannot do a hard reset.
I really do not want to learn how to live with this sensor. I would just like to switch it off.

So I recently upgraded to IOS 8.1.1 and since I made that update with my iPhone 5 32gb my proximity sensor has stopped working and has caused me to face time or end calls or mute conversations with my cheek while on a call. I have done a soft reset, and rebooted numerous times and the problem persists.
