My iPhone 3GS doesn't seem to charge all of the sudden, and won't start up properly. When plugged in, it shows the battery meter at the lowest red slither of power (along with the lightning bolt symbol). It will periodically try to start up on its own, but doesn't get past the Apple symbol. Never gets to the home screen. I tried going into recovery mode to restore, and it manages to stay on in order to complete the restore. The last step iTunes shows is to leave it plugged in for the device to restart and be verified, but when it turns off, it goes back to cycling to the Apple screen and never fully turning on (in which case iTunes will say that it was not able to verify the device), or just showing the charging screen with the lowest possible red bar of power.

View 5 Replies View RelatedHow do I sync my iPhone after a full restore? Start as new or restore from backup? They think hardware was the issue so I assume start new?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo my iphone just happened to go into a coma yesterday evening and I tried to turn it back on. I looked down to the cable connector on the bottom to see if there was any water damage. No red indicator. few hours later, I read that if you hold down the opwer and home button at the same time, it will reboot. However, I've held the buttons for MORE than 30 seconds--up to 3 minutes. Not to long ago, I also read that you should plug in the iphone and hold the two buttons, commencing the restoration process thingy. Again, held it down for more than a minute. I even tried it on my aunt's laptop and it still won't work. Either I'm impatient (I listen to music alot so it's like a drug), the battery/hardware failed, or I'm just having back luck with technology.

I upgraded my 3G 16gb to iOS4 (Gold Master candidate) about a week ago. That upgrade required a clean install, and I restored from my last backup. Unfortunately, even the core OS apps (iPod, Phone, Mail, etc.) run very slowly...Of course, this is essentially the final developer preview, not necessarily the final version released tomorrow, and no one has any great hopes of iOS4 working all that well on the 3G anyway.. That said, I can't help but think the core slowness is from some of the bloat inherent to all the current apps + the apps long deleted. Perhaps there are some of the SQL lite tables retained, etc. etc. I will not 'restore' when I get the iPhone 4 this week, but start with a clean slate..

I have a an iPhone 4s 5.1. I have just recently updated from iOS 5.01. I kept getting messages saying that i had purchased songs that hadnt transfered and asking if i wanted to transfer them to itunes. i said yes and it immediately said it detected a device but it couldnt read it properly. so i attempted to restore it to factory settings. (after switching out USB cables and uninstalling/reinstalling itunes) i hit restore and it asked if i wanted to restore and i hit yes only to have a pop-up detailing all the new features on the 5.1 update. i cannot get past this point.

I just got a new iPhone 4S yesterday due to a speaker that wasn't working. The Genius Bar helper confirmed that I had backed up everything yesterday morning and so last night he deleted my old iphone material and then restored on the new phone. However, the restore, when finished, didn't include a lot of apps and some data was missing.if I can still try to restore it? Don't know how or why this happened.I had it set to store all data.It also didn't restore to the newest software although it had been upgraded.

Recently, I upgraded my iphone 4 software into 5.1.1, I believe at some point I got an error about "not being able to contact the software server" but I deemed it unimportant since the upgrade followed successfully, except afterwards, I only was able to sync via wi-fi, since when my iphone was connected, I got NO options except "Eject" ( the name of the iphone is apparent, but when i click on the devide, the big screen where there should be options such as "restore" and "search for update" only has the writing "Iphone" on a gray background) I thought it was something about the wi-fi sync I hadn't used before, googled for others that have the same problem, only found one outdated post where the person said they solved the problem on the phone with an apple representitive and after a "recovery" and restore, the phone was fine.
So I have put my phone in recovery mode, plugged it into Itunes, where it cannot "contact the software server". Is there any way I can restore my phone without using Itunes? Because apparently that wont work... (Oh, I tried a million solutions for contacting the software server error too, my "hosts" file is clean, I added and later on removed a dns of apple, I started using the dns 8.8.8.8 for my connection, etc. and nothing worked)
Also, "calling" anywhere is kinda the last resort because I am not from the United States so it would be skype all the way.

I had an IPhone 3gs earlier so I synced and backed-up the phone and then attempted to restore the phone to see if I could eliminate the problem. After the restore and software update, it brought me to the "Set up your IPhone" page and I selected "restore from the last backup on my iphone" then clicked "continue." It started to restore from backup and everything appeared to be running like normal, but when it was finished and my phone restarted, my apps and songs were deleted but my pictures/wallpapers/contacts were still on the phone. In addition, instead of my itunes returning to my Iphone's library, it returned to the "Set up your IPhone" page like the restore never happened. I have tried to restore from backup multiples times after that but I end up with the same result so I cannot access my iphone's library on my itunes to add any of my songs back since the restore didn't bring any of it back. Does any know how to fix it?
