IPhone :: IOS 5.1 Update, Home Button Doesn't Work
Mar 19, 2012
Ever since I installed the iOS 5.1 update on my iPhone 4, the home button does not work at all! I've tried every trouble shooting solution I could find. I've Restarted, I can't hard reset because the home button doesn't work, I've restored from back up, I've restored as new, I've vacuumed out and gently used a tooth brush in the port below the home button in attempt to remove any dust. I've tried opening a factory installed app such as Maps, Safari, Stocks etc and held the top button until the "Slide to power off" showed and then held down the home button until it went to home screen except it didn't go to the home screen at all the "slide to power off" disappeared after a while. I have extremely intermittent response with the Home Button. If i press it continuously it will work after 27 presses one time or 9 presses another but never when I try to do a hard reset and 9.999 times out of 10 it doesn't work.
After half a day new iPhone 3GS stopped working properly. Home button doesn't respond. It works only when I plug iPhone to the computer.Voice cotrol runs by himself unexpectadly. iPhone 3GS with preinstalled iOSx 5.0.1. Should I update to the new 5.1 or downgrade to the 4.0 version?
I have a problem with my home button. It works every time I press it and iPhone act correctly, but the pressing itself isn't as it should be. So the button doesn't work soft, elastically and neatly. It feels like there's something inside the mechanism. And the sound of pressing the button isn't typical. But the iPhone is almost new and it works great apart from the button. I've searched for it on the Internet but it seems that I'm the only person with this problem, because the button actually works and the phone responds to pressings every time.
My iphone 4 home button and the volume doesn't work. Have Besy Buy black tie protection plan but they want me to be without my phone for almost a month to repair. I can't do that.
In order to submit iPhone 5 for replacement of the faulty home button power I need the serial number and i cannot power on the phone to locate the number. What to do?
We have two iPhone...both 4. Both are running the latest software. We both have the same issue. One is that frequently when you press the home button to escape an app it doesn't work. If you press the on/off button and then go back to the home button it may work, but not always. It takes repeated tries to get a response.
The second, and perhaps related, issue is that calls frequently do not connect. I can select a contact from either my favorites or the contact list. When I select the name the phone appears to be dialing. You hear the ring once, but no more and the call doesn't connect. Then you can't end the call to start over you have to wait for it to decide to end.
I don't know whether to restore both phones or not. We are thinking of visiting the Genius bar, but we're sure they will work perfectly there.
Around a week ago when I turned my motorola quench on I found that a bunch of settings were reset including the passcode lock and my choice to use the swype keyboard. Although I was able to change those back easily enough, my home button since then does not work. In order to close an app, I now have to use the back button (which means losing my pages if I am in a web browser). The command for pressing the home button twice still works.
Recently updated my iPhone 4 to ios 7.1.2. Currently my worst problem: instead of going into sleep mode, the phone turns off completely. I then cannot turn the phone back on with the sleep/wake button. To turn the phone back on, I need to do a hard reboot each time by holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously. I have tried going into settings/general/reset and selecting "reset all".
The home button only works if I push down real hard. I've tried rebooting the phone and putting it in with rice (a little bit of water got on the phone)
I just dropped my iphone for the first time. It didn't have an otter box, just a thin plastic cover. It landed on it's screen but shows no screen damage whatsoever. Now I can't use the home button. I can listen to my music and play games just fine, but when it comes to getting back to the home screen with the home button it doesn't work. It makes the usual clicking sound, but nothing else. I got it to the home screen a couple of times by pushing the button with alot of force but I'm affraid that will damage it more. What should I do? Is it fixable? Do I have to take it to be repaired or can I fix it at home?
Info: iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1, no cracks or scratches on device
im having problems with my iphone3gs home button i have the old software (4.3) so i cant get assististive touch
its happened many times before but this time ive tried fixing holding the button down for 30seconds and im getting no response at all i also dropped my fone does this add to it ?
Most of the time my iPhone is fine, but then 2 or 3 times a day the home button stops working and I need to power the phone off and back on again to get it working properly.
So i removed some moisture from under the 3Gs screen and dust etc but i noticed i removed a somewhat tape on the front glass of the iphone EXAMPLE VVVVhttp://i46.tinypic.com/kb9g9l.jpg everything else works. except the home button is unresponsive.
Siri suddenly does not work when I hold down home button. Have iOS 5.1.1; wifi connection; tried turning on/off Siri, rebooting etc. Used to work fine, latest iPhone. The home "Button" works - I can do other things; and the voice-to-text function also works.
Info: iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1, Worked fine before 5.1.1 update
