Before the update to iOS 5.1 when I "deleted" emails in the native mail app the emails would be "archived" in my gmail account. Now, when I delete the emails on the native mail app, the emails are sent to the trash. I cannot find a toggle in the mail settings to restore the archive feature (if it exists).

Anyone with Gmail of iPhone - Since I have updated to IOS4, when I swipe to delete an email on my phone, I get a red button which says "archive" instead of "delete." After pressing the button, the email disappears from my inbox, doesn't show up in the trash and doesn't go to any of my other folders. Anyone else experiencing this?

I know that in at least one of the 4.0 betas it offered to Archive. Do I have to use the Gmail setup to get this feature instead of using Exchange? I use Exchange so I can get push mail.

I am pretty sure that I used to have "archive" as an option in the menu, and also when I archived on the dektop, the mail would disappear in the gmail mail list, now it does not.I added the mail account through setup following the gmail account option. I did set up the same account using gmail and email, and it seemed redundant. While the message app and the universal inbox worked, I would get double icon notifications. So, is there any clear choice here, on the gmail app versus the email app?

She's keep going between the full touch, to the touch with keys 9810.Can someone help with the choice who had a similar situation. I tell her that he 9810 looks bulky with the slide, the 9860 and 9380 to me are the same apart from the size of the touchscreen, 3.7" to 3.2" Does this matter much? I upgraded to iOS 5.1, and shortly after, my connection to the gmail Exchange server stopped working, saying: Cannog Get Mail The connection to the server failed. I've tried deleting and re-adding the account, changing my password, and completly restoring my phone, but I still get that message when I try to check my mail. I can, however, set it up as a regular gmail account, and that works just fine. Furthermore, my calendar works when I set up the Exchange account, it's only the mail that doesn't. I can also see all of my gmail labels if I look in my mailboxes, but I can't receive data. What might be preventing my Exchange account from checking my mail?

Recently I began noticing that the message is not being delated from the phone if I delete it from the mailbox, and I can't figure out why.
Basically I want to be able to read the message on the computer and hit delete and for it do the same thing on my blackberry and vise versa. Now it seems to work if I delete the message on the BB then it will not be in the Mailbox on the computer.

I have set up my iPhone to use my Gmail account, and it works fine when I am using my home wifi or 3G. But when I am at work and connected to my work wifi, I can receive mail, but I can not send mail. It says "Sending..." and hangs there until I get back to 3G or my home wifi. I have deleted (i thought) my existing gmail setup from my iPhone. When I try to re establish the gmail settings, using either the password generated by the MAC / iCloud keychain generator or the App password, I get the message "My Name" is already added.
It looks to me that there is something in the iPhone that matches my gmail address, even though I deleted the account.Â

I have my Gmail account set up on my iPhone as Exchange, to get push email. The issue I am having:In my Gmail account settings, I have it set to send mail using only my initials, so that when I send a message to someone they will only see (A J) for example. When sending emails from my browser in gmail, this works fine. If I go to my iPhone, and send a response to an email thread, it will send from my full name. Any emails that I send from my iPhone automatically show my full name. Is there some type of account setting for this? I don't want it to use my full name when I send email from the phone. I have looked everywhere and don't see any setting for this. I have also called Apple support and they have no idea.

Shortly after I got my iPhone 4S, I added my gmail account to the mail app (not the gmail app),so that I could read my email on my phone, and specifically not using the Gmail app, but using the email app, and adding the Gmail account as an Exchange Server so that my Google Contacts would sync to the device. It worked for weeks. Now, suddenly, it says wrong password whenever I try to check my email. I have removed it and added it back. I did not change anything on my email account configuration that would cause this.
Since it happened, though, I have removed the account and re-added it. It seems that it would stop me from adding the account if I were using the wrong password, but it lets me add the account with no problem, and only gives the wrong password message after that, when it tries to begin downloading emails.
I have typed in the password enough times today to make sure that I am typing it in correctly. I have been able to log into my gmail account via the web successfully (proving that I do know my own password). I even downloaded and installed the gmail app and was able to use it to get to my email. But that leaves my phone with zero contacts, because I keep all my contacts in Google Contacts, and the Gmail app doesn't seem to add any contacts to the contacts list on the phone. I need it to work the way it was set up & working before today. I don't know if Apple changed something, if Google changed something, or what. I would think that there would be others using this functionality who may be similarly stuck.
So my question is: How can I access my Gmail account from my iphone and have my google contacts brought into the phone's contact list, and constantly synchronized with Google contacts, like I had going before today? With the addition of iCloud, it gets really confusing really quick. The simple solution that I was using was so nice. I will be sad if it is gone for good...
