I am messaging someone and we both have the iphone 4s with the latest software. Will Imessages be sent as text messages if the receiving phone is off?

I recently got a new Macbook and I synced it to my iCloud and iMessage accounts with both my apple ID and my phone number. I got the notification that it was signed into on my Mac and I just confirmed it. I have been able to receive messages on both my Mac and my iPhone, but now I am not receiving any kind of notification on my phone that any messages are being received. I tried logging out of iMessage on my computer and still no luck. How I can fix this so that I can receive message notifications on my iPhone again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is only happening when I'm texting someone using iMessage - it'll say that they sent their message as a text message, but then a few minutes later I'll get their exact same message again, but this time as an iMessage - it's happened with multiple people - it says I'm still in iMessage "mode" but they're in text message mode and then i'll often receive the same message again - this has only started happening recently, and it doesn't happen every time but it happens often and I'm not sure why- has this happened to anyone else?

The problem is, occassionaly, the iPhone will give up as sending as an iMessage and then send as a text. As a result, I am being charged for sending an international message, when I would rather just write an email or skype (if iMessage wasnt going to do its job). Is there anyway to set strictly iMessage to certain contacts?

just set up iMessage on my iMac. Both my wife and i have iphone4s. I can imessage from imac to my iphone. can not imessage to my wife from the imac - i get a message "name is not available for imessage". i can imessage from my 4s to her 4s I must be missing something in the setup of her account.

So I have a Samsung S6 Galaxy through Verizon. I also use the Message+ stock app that Verizon has placed on the phone.
My lock screen is disabled through a 3rd party app (No Lock), so when I previously received a text message, my screen would awaken, and a preview of said text message would show up in the status bar.
Now i had to reset my phone, and upon resetting, my phone will still show the blinking LED light, and make the sound associated with receiving a text message. However the screen no longer lights up, so now if i want to read the test message int the status bar, I have to hit the power button to light up my phone. Very annoying.
I have went through the settings where there used to be a checkbox that said "show preview in status bar and lock screen", but that selection no longer seems to be there. I will also say that if my screen is already awake (either if i'm currently using the phone, or the screen hasn't turned off yet), the preview of the text message DOES show up in the status bar.
I will use another app that just awakes my phone when a notification is received...but i don't want something that has pop-ups, widgets, and the like. I really just want my phone to awaken as it did prior due to the reset, without (seeing at least) any add-on's, etc.
My wife is on a school trip to the US. Meanwhile, I am at home in Canada. I am texting her, but I found it odd she never replies and vice versa. So, she discovered that her iPhone (latest iOS 5 release) keeps trying to send the message as an iMessage. It is not reverting to SMS after a given time, as it should and as I have seen it do before. I have tried it now also and my wife only receives my messages when she has a wifi connection (she does not have data roaming enabled). It seems like my iPhone too continously tries to send the message as an iMessage and it does not switch to SMS after a certain timeout time. The message that the iPhone continously tries to send as an iMessage never fails, however the status does not change until the next time my wife is in wifi coverage and the message is delivered.

I would like to know how I can turn off iPhone's iMessage system and just send regular text messages to other iPhone users.Here's why.On two separate occassions I have missed a date with the same guy because we would send each other messages, and get no reply. Why? Because the iPhone appears to choose to send it as an iMessage.But because one or the other isn't connected to a wireless port at the time it doesn't go through.so we're both waiting for the other to reply and it never happens.So we assume the other is asleep, phone died, whatever and plans are automatically cancelled.We take the train home and then iMessage floods both of our phones with 30 minutes worth of texts.
I would like to have the ability to send a text as a text message, and only send an iMessage when I choose it to be the wiser of two methods of sending a text.iMessage is not my preffered method of sending a text because it doesn't work as well.It does a terrible job of letting me know when it can't send and it utilizes wifi which is less abundant than the network I'm on.Moreover I have unlimited texts with my plan.So I don't understand the point of a phone automatically trying to send texts through wifi when it doesn't work as well,inadvertantly cancels my date twice, and leaves me bitter and ALONE at home again.So do I have an option to just send texts as regular texts?
