I like having my phone jailbroken but my proximity sensor is a big enough issue to warrant updating. That is of course if the update truly fixes it.Anyone care to share their experience so far after the update?

I updated the OTA update early today and since then the battery level has been going down at almost 10% every 30 - 40 mins. Following is the list in my battery usage queue. This is after I did a system reset and left my phone without any new apps (except for facebook).

I am planning to charge it to 100% and then see how it behaves. Will keep this thread posted with stats from my phone.
i received the update notification to Tango through Zune. After perform the update, I noticed that when making or receiving calls, the screen immediately turned off and is not turned on again until the other person hung up.I did the tests in the diagnostic menu, and the proximity sensor always shows "detected".The problem is the same as in this post [URL]....I did a rollback to the previous version and the problem was solved, but went update to Tango again, the problem reappears. I love everything about the new iPhone 4 and its insanely high-res screen considering its size. However, even though they've also bumped the specs, I am worried that the 4x increase in resolution is gonna hinder game performance and thus put the graphical qualities of games at a standstill.I mean anyone who is a PC gamer knows how much the performance of a game can drop - It's like the difference in performance of playing Crysis on 1600x1200 versus 800x600.
I'm curious to see what games will look like, but I have a bad feeling that this could make future iPhone 4 games look even worse graphically. Sure, everything will be crisper, but obviously there is a lot more to a game graphically than resolution.
Ok so I have a 3GS and used to have decent battery performance, losing maybe 3% over night. Well I jailbroke and like a lot of people had way worse battery, losing up to 10% over night. I did a complete restore and re jailbroke and it seemed a little better.
Well I was charging the phone tonight by USB to my computer. I checked it and saw it was at 99%. I went to watch a show and came back and now was it was at 96% still plugged in and charging. I then rebooted the phone and it was at 98%. Anyone know what the reason for this could be and a solution?

I superstitiously keep about 20% of my iPhone 4's storage space free to account for OS swap files or data management - some sites recommend doing the same to keep the phone running snappy. Does this have any real effect on performance?

Noticing someting wierd with my new iPhone 4 - the proximity sensor doesn't seem to work well (or at all..)When the phone is up against my ear or if I'm cradling the phone between my ear and shoulder the proximity sensor should disable the screen and touch controls until it detects that I've pulled the phone away from my head. My iPhone 3G excelled at this. My iPhone 4 however seems to want to keep the screen on at all times, causing "cheek dialing" issues, mostly trying to initiate FaceTime.
Anyone else experiencing this?
So I've had my iPhone 4 for a day or so now and have noticed the proximity sensor is much weaker and you have to be pushing your head against the actual phone and that when I have speakerphone turned on the mic does not work. This problem is only confined to speakerphone, the mic works in every other situation even on skype speakerphone works.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have fixed my proximity sensor and can now make calls without hanging up/muting etc. I was having severe problems with the proximity sensor on my IPhone 4. During calls my ear was hitting mute, end call, face time etc. Today I had the hardware replaced at a retail store and restored a backup. The problem remained. Then I read a post on this site suggesting resetting the network settings and thought, why not, Apple had no fix.
Before I started I tested and recorded that the proximity sensor required my hand to be about 5mm above the sensor before it kicked it and blanked the screen. Then I used Settings/General/Reset/ Reset network settings. After this the proximity sensor worked at about 3cm under exactly the same conditions. I have continued using the phone including setting my WiFi password which had been cleared.
This wont clear everyone's problems but: As it takes 30 seconds and doesn’t wipe your phone, give it a try before sitting on the phone to Apple, driving to the Apple store etc. Besides they don’t have a fix yet. My testing pretty much proved that for me, changing hardware didn't help but a configuration change did. Therefore even though other users may have other setting, which in combination with a complex bug mean this fix doesn't work for them, it is a software bug in some cases, probably most. So Apple should work this out in the end and post an update to the OS.
If this fix doesn’t work for you and you want to do something, test your sensor by starting a call, leaving the speakerphone off and putting three fingers over the top of the phone covering the entire phone above the screen. If the screen blanks when your hand is close but comes on when less than a couple of centimetres away, then see if a software fix helps. Take a backup and then wipe the phone and then retest.
My big beef with the phone is the proximity sensor and if I'm in a call longer than 5 minutes, I can pretty much rock the phone off my ear ever so slightly and the screen comes on. My only fear is that once I get it there, the genius won't be able to replicate my problem and tell me it's fine.
Basically I'm asking for advice/tips on what to say to this guy (I've never been to an Apple Store and I haven't heard how nice the people are in the Florida Mall) so I don't overreact to whatever this guy is going to say to me.
I'm also curious to know if anyone else has had Apple replace the phone for this specific issue because I seem to be the only one out of my batch of friends that is having this problem. Even when I use their phones, I cant seem to find an issue.
Again, any advice is greatly appreciated.
I've noticed that when I talk on my left ear (which is how I always talk), I have CRAZY problems with the proximity sensor. I cannot go through even ONE call without either putting them on speakerphone, hanging up, going into contacts or dialing numbers by accident.However, when talking on my right ear, no problems at all it seams. I don't know why but it's annoying as I can't talk on my right ear, it just doesn't feel right and I'm not used to it.What have your guys' experiences been with this?

So I recently upgraded to IOS 8.1.1 and since I made that update with my iPhone 5 32gb my proximity sensor has stopped working and has caused me to face time or end calls or mute conversations with my cheek while on a call. I Opened it up a few months ago to change the back cover, which was broken; and I broke a bit the plastic piece of connector 3 of the mother board (see at the Attached image); However, It worked perfectly... Until now, that I've reopened my iPhone to change again the backcover (false covers aren't very good...), and when I finished... Noticed that the earpiece is not working! I can't hear anything while calling! I know that the connector 3 of the screen is the cause, because proximity sensor isn't working neither...
But my question is:
Is there any way to know which part of the "connector 3" has been broken? The MoBo, or the Screen Flex? Because if it's the second, I can replace it for a few bucks, but if not... :S Or... Is there any other connector that I could damage or put badly, so they are doing contact with wrong pieces, etc etc? Notice that I had to disarm the whole iPhone to change the cover... So perhaps.
Earpiece and proximity sensor do not work. I can hear people fine when they are on speaker. The screen does not turn off when I place my hand over it.

View 14 Replies View RelatedThe proximity sensor on my iPhone 4 has been driving me crazy and I've been holding the phone to my left ear the same way as I've held every iPhone before with no problems. I thought what would happen if I moved it up a bit so the sensor was at the top part of my ear instead of at the hole part of the ear. So far, in the 3 calls I've made, it seems to have fixed it. Will have to see some more of the next couple days and it does require you to think and focus on how you are holding it but at least I can use the phone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI thought everyone might like this one. My wife has incredible problems with the proximity sensor on her i4, and last night she came up with a solution. I thought it was pretty clever, so I am passing it on here. She said that when she was in a call somehow she got switched to contacts (we all now how this happens, but she was unsure what she had done to make it happen) and had the green bar at the top (press to go back to active phone call bar). I explained she had gone into the contacts section of the phone while on a call. She found that since the phone activities were no longer on the screen, no more mutes, hang-ups, face dials, etc. occurred for her no matter what she did. So for the time being her resolution (although this is basic, it will work for everyone) is to leave the active call, while still on the call, to keep the phone actions from being activated by her face while on a call. it works for her, makes her happy, and we were able to talk for an hour without any of the past problems (she is across the country and no where near an Apple store to have them look at it, so in the meantime this will work for her). So if you find yourself in this position, it may be a handy work around in the meantime while waiting for the official fix from Apple. I just though it was a clever idea (usually she doesn't think about things like this) and since it works for her and enables her to make calls without problems, I am ecstatic (at least maybe she will stop complaining about the issue, yet I have to remind her that SHE was the one that wanted the phone so bad, and now she has it so bad!)
View 8 Replies View RelatedOk heres my problem. About 2 weeks ago i went to the Apple store because i got an iPhone 4 with probably the worst proximity sensor on the planet. Literally i hold it up to my face and dont move a muscle and the screen flashes on and off. Its literally caused me to add calls at 3 a.m and hang up on 50% of my calls. So i asked if i could swap it out and the guy working said i should wait for the software update and getting a new phone would still have the same problem. So the problem is now my 30 days is up, and what if the update doesnt fix it? Do you think theyll still let me return it? ATT store wouldnt let me swap out either.
