May 27, 2012today i was trying to update my iPhone 4S from iOS 5.0to 5.1.1. No problems restoring it, but when i try to activate it,the process fails every time. It seems that Apple Activation servers are down?Im a computer enthusiast and have already checked my home network for issues that can block access to apple servers, also checked from another network and machines, but still no luck. Tried to activate using WiFi on my iPhone, 3G network, and even Connect to iTunes on my PC. I noticed that apple activation server is gs.apple.com. Pinging it from any source on my network just generates timeouts, and even tried to ping it from online pages that provide ping service (ping.eu), but it generates timeouts too.Non modified iPhone 4S - black

Jun 10, 2010i'm sure plenty of you will say, "Use the search function!" or something but im kinda in a When you go to an Apple store and they activate your phone, is that the same as going to the actual AT&T store and activating it and renewing your 2-year agreement? Or would i have to get the phone from the Apple store, then go to the AT&T store and then set up my new 2-year agreement? I plan on getting the new phone the day it comes out and i just don't want anything getting in the way of that. My current phone has dead pixels going halfway across the screen so i cant wait to finally pick up a new one!

Jun 9, 2010I was planning on going to the Apple store to get an iPhone 4, but my wife just pointed out that when I did that to get my 3G we had a huge headache as Apple couldn't activate my phone since we have a discount on our plan... I had to go across the mall to AT&T to have them take the discount off, go back to Apple to get the iPhone (AT&T didn't have any in stock) then after all that headache we went back to AT&T and they couldn't put the discount back on for 48 hours.so I had to make a special trip to the AT&T store an hour drive.
Anyone experience anything like this last year with the 3GS? Anyone know if the issue is fixed? Or do I just need to get my phone direct from AT&T? On a side note, does anyone know if it's possible to start a new plan or add a line to an existing plan with my 3G so that line wouldn't have a new 2 year agreement?

Jul 1, 2012I can confirm my 4S and all my other devices are not able to activate iMessage after it is toggled off and back on. It simply stays stuck on "Waiting for activation" and eventually goes to "Activation unsuccessful. Turn on imessage to try again". All with no avail. get your engineers on this ASAP apple. More and more people are facing this issue. Devices that are already receiving and sending imessages are unaffected. However when you toggle imessage off and then back on, it does not reactivate. This must clearly be a ongoing issue with your icloud server from yesterdays outages.

Sep 2, 2014I have an Iphone 4s and it is unjailbroken or unlocked etc just normal iphone, it started last night when it started being unable to identify any servers on my emails facebook twitter yahoo google etc etc, then facebook and twitter would open but not load any pages and there would be a "network" issue. Now in the morning it won't any webpages at all and still wont load facebook or any videos or pictures and also this morning a new problem has started where my phone will send a message but it will immediately disappear and I cant see it anymore

Feb 11, 2010I find this is worth doing to stop itunes from upgrading your phone or accidentally upgrading. (if you set a jailbreak up for a friend who might not be wise to JB's worth doing this to them) Download FWChanger from Cydia and set custom firmware, then reboot. I set mine to 3.1.3 and i used build 7E18.
For those who dont know what this prog does, basically it just changes the number of your firmware, and nothing else (as far as i know), so itunes picks it up as your running latest firmware (when really you are not). Now itunes says my software is up to date.
