When using iMessage how can I make it so it shows my number not my Apple ID?

Ive read all the other 1000 responses on this topic, however none of them work. Added another Iphone 4 to my account and we acctivated it lastnight. Imessage is activated on the phone. However when sending imessages its showing her email address rather than phone number. Noww before I get the same replies I have went to Settings<Messages<Recieve at and there is no option for phone and there is no option for caller ID. So im lost. And I was on the phone with Apple for an hour lastnight and got NO where.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen using iMessage, is it normal for it to be sent as an email? My friends with iPhones will txt me and when I txt back it starts a new conversation entirely with my email as the contact. Is there a way to set it to my phone number? When I recieve iMessages it's never an email.

When I send iMessages, it just appears from my email address, not from my phone number. When, I go to settings > messages, I can only "Receive At" xxxx @ email .com as well, there is no option to add a phone number. How can I make myself available to be "reached for messages" at my phone number instead of (or, in addition to) my e-mail? I also have an iPad. iPhone is running 5.1.

I talk to someone who sends me imessages to my phone number from their phone, and also from their ipad to my email. Both phone number and email are under the same contact. But the mesages go into 2 different threads. Id like to combine them since being under the same contact they show up exactly the same in the messages list.. so i cant tell if im messaging the ipad or the phone..
ideally id like to write a message to that contact and it would go to both their ipad and iphone.
My wife and I both have iPhones and using iOS 5.1.1 We text routinely throughout the day. I randomly recieve her texts in two different threads, when I go to the top of the thread and click "Contact>" one of them highlights her phone number as the source and the other highlights her email address as the source. On her phone it all appears as a single thread with me, but when I send a text to her it I have to send it in both threads to make sure she gets it, she will only get one of them and I have no way of knowing which one she will get at any given time. Does anyone know why it switched back and forth? It isn't tied to WiFi vs 4g as far as we can tell, we both get the normal blue vs green to indicate SMS vs iMessage.
In case that was confusing, here's an example. If she sends me a text I always get it in one of the two threads, no issue. If I respond to something she just texted me in the same thread, she gets it. Again, no problem. If I send her a text a few hours later in only one of the two threads, she may or may not receive it. To make sure she gets it I send it in both, she only gets it once, and if she responds I know which one her phone is currently on.

I have an iPhone 4S, and just bought a new Android phone.A fair chunk of my family uses iPhones, iPads, and iPods, so I was planning on keeping the iPhone for iMessage and Facetime. However, my texts from said family (at least the ones using iPhones) are being sent as iMessages to the iPhone, instead of my new phone.I'm wondering if there is a way to disable iMessage/FaceTime on my iPhone for the phone number, but leave it active for the email addresses. or any other ways to achieve what I'm trying to do.?

Since Apple released iMessage my friend and I have been iMessaging. As of yesterday, I can still send my friend iMessages as usual, but she can only send iMessages to my email (I have "Receive at" set to my phone number and email, Caller ID set to my phone number). If she tries to send an iMessage to my phone number, as she did before, it will only send as a Text. All of my other iPhone contacts can still send iMessages to my phone number. We've each tried rebooting and switching iMessage on and off (we both have iPhone 4, IOS 5.1.1) without any luck. I realise that iMessage is still technically working with her sending to my email, but we just don't understand why sending to my phone number has suddenly stopped working.

I have an iPhone 4S - how do I change "My Number" which shows up as an old number when I click settings - phone. It won't let me click it or edit it.

I recently sold my iPhone 3GS and ported the number out to Google Voice. This old number is now forwarded to a new number on an employer provided 4S. I figured I could save some money, avoid the hassle of carrying two phones, and, at the same time, keep my personal number. I read about all of the problems that would happen if I did not turn off imessage before porting a number away from iOS and was determined to not let it happen to me.Before doing anything, I SHUT OFF iMESSAGE. I then ported the number out and cancelled my account, removed the SIM (AT&T), did a complete wipe/restore of the iphone, unregistered the iphone from my support profile, and sold the phone. From what I can tell from all of the support forum posts, I did everything I was supposed to do to ensure I would have no issues with imessage. I was so sure of myself, I didn't even bother to test it. I wish I had.
Despite my efforts, I am still not receiving text messages from iOS imessage users because messages from them to me still default to imessage instead of SMS. It doesn't seem to matter if they have the "Send as SMS" option toggled on or off...I will not get the message regardless. I've had people delete entire message strings and delete/replace my contact info in an effort to fix. No luck. I even had a stranger at work who did not have my contact info test it out for me. When he tried to text me, it defaulted to imessage. I must point out that I have ZERO issues receiving SMS messages.
how do I go about correcting the issue? I've already spent about an hour on the phone with Apple and about an hour at the genius bar (where the issue was successfully demonstrated first hand when a "genius" tried to text me from his phone). They claim that they had no prior knowledge of any issues with imessage and suggested that I tell all of my contacts with iphones to simply "just remember" to send me SMS only. Seriously? This is an unreasonable request...and certainly not a fix. After arguing for a while, they took my contact info and "escalated the issue to engineering." It's now been three weeks and I've heard nothing.

I ported my number so the new carrier gave me a temp number. Now that I have my number working, iPhone is displaying the temp number in settings>phone, so even if iMessages and Facetime activates,I don't know why the message "your carrier may charge for the imessage activation..bla bla", so...iMessage and Facetime shows my correct number, but they deactivate themselves for some reason and activates again.Â
I don't know if it is because the wrong number is displaying in the settings, or I lose signal or what..but this is new so I think it's because of the wrong number in settings.Â
Some things to consider (things I've tried so far):
- Cant change number manually
- Tried the turn off iMessage and Facetime and then on and restartÂ
My carrier is going to charge for every activation message I send I guess... or is there another way to change the sim number in the iphone or mac? I dont have another phone to change the number in special numbers.Â
How to deactivate my number from imessage?

I am having trouble activating iMessage and Facetime,I recently changed my network provider from Airtel to Vodafone india. iMessage was working fine with the old provider Airtel.I got a new number with vodafone and am using that with my 4S.I have switched off iMessage and Facetime before switching sims from airtel to vodafone, But now when ever I try to acivate imessage on my new number it is still trying to verfy the old number from Airtel instead of Vodafone and eventually fails I have tried it a lot of times and and the bill shows a lot of international SMS chanrges but the stuff does not work.. It is as if the old number has been hardwired to the phone, even though in India all iphones are unlocked.

I travel often and change my SIM cards when in Europe. When I install the SIM card, the phone verifies the number with iMessage and it does this for ever, however it keeps the former number. How can I change the number manually after I changed the SIM card?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I used the iPhone with new SIM card, it logged my "temporary number" as my phone number, iMessage phone number, and FaceTime phone number. When my real number was updated instead of the temporary number in the mobile carrier (calling someone showed them my real number), the iPhone still showed the temporary phone number in Phone Settings, iMessage and FaceTime.I corrected the phone number in the Phone Settings, and tried the instructions of previous answered-questions about this issue:
-> to turn off FaceTime and iMessage, then re-activate them, and wait for the phone-number-activation to fail (but for me, after several trials, I still did not have the option to moderate the phone number of iMessage).
I tried reseting the Network Settings. I tried removing the SIM card. I tried doing all of these things in different orders. I tried turning off-on-off-on-off-on-off the iMessage and FaceTime many times. I tried changing the phone number in my Apple ID web account.Nothing seems to work. I still cannot change the phone number in my iMessage settings.
