View 14 RepliesI've just purchased an S6 G920F from Kogan. I'm coming from a GPE HTC One M8. I'm currently trying to get it setup (just on wifi, no SIM inserted yet). I really want to use GMail app for mail because don't like the built-in one, and like how GMail syncs calendars and contacts from outlook.com and Exchange servers - and I've been using it no problem for a while now.
Problem is - on the S6 when I go to add an account, I don't actually have an option for Exchange - just POP and IMAP. It seems that GMail was baked in to the ROM as I'm unable to remove it.
Does the native HTC Mail app in Sense UI, push gmail? Or any other IMAP connections that support the IDLE command? Or does only the native gmail app push gmail? I ask, because I have multiple email accounts on my phone, gmail, hotmail, etc.. gmail is on the native gmail app, which is currently pushing... but the others are in the HTC Mail app.
I'd rather have 1 app for everything, instead of bouncing between.. IMAP is IMAP.. which the HTC Mail app supports (for moving to and from folders).. but if it doesn't push using the IDLE command (like gmail app does).. then I'm stuck where I am.
I have Gmail pushed to my phone via Google's push instructions (exchange server).Because I want push notifications, I am in search of the best notification app.I have used Gpush in the past and it seemed to be decent. I then read that Push Gmail was better, so I made the switch and have been using it ever since. My experience with both of these apps has been that both are prone to outages (sometimes days/weeks long) and delays in pushing notifications to my phone. Is there a better app? Is there a way to do it without an app?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know how to set up push email, on 3GS I had to do it through the exchange route to get push email with gmail. Is it the same now or can I do it through the gmail option when setting it up?Will it be better?I am asking because there used to be a delay with exchange so will this be better or will it not have push?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have gmail setup on my 3GS via Exchange. There is an option to enable push notification on multiple folders + Inbox, but it doss not appear to be working. Each time I go to the Sent or All Mail folders, it only shows the last emails I downloaded the last time I opened the folder. The mail app then takes about 1-3 minutes to d/l the new messages. Is there some trick to enabling push in gmail folders?
View 6 Replies View RelatedHas anyone had issues with the gmail push today using google sync? My phone keeps asking for my password and I put it in but tells me it is invalid. Now if I use my other gmail account (regular one through the iphone mail) I can get my mail perfectly fine. I tried deleting the account and making a new one but it gives me the same error. Any help would be great.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSince updating, my iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.0 has been intermittently unable to move, send, or delete emails using my existing push gmail setup. If I restart the phone, the email might work for a few min, but shortly after that, it will stop allowing me to move, delete, or send messages (I get an error saying it can't move it, etc.)Any ideas? I guess I'll delete the account from the phone and redo it, but is this some sort or known bug?

For some reason today it is telling me my password is incorrect. I can set it up to fetch using the gmail server and it works fine. That's not an option because i NEED my Google calendar on my i phone to push... or at least update itself but that doesn't seem to work set up using gmail fetch.HELP.I know you can use an exchange account but it seems like it only works about 25% of the time. Of course I'm JB so I could have something conflicting.Either way, when the heck is google gonna support push? Never because they want Android to look better or what!Had anyone heard any info about this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHow do you get push notifications for a Gmail account? Or is this even possible?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving some trouble with gmail. It won't notify me of email instantly when they come through and doesn't have the push option, only fetch. So to see if I have emails I have to go to the mail and manually refresh to get emails. This is a big problem as I need to get my emails right away for work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor the past couple of weeks I've been having issues with my device and push mail, I'll check the phone in the afternoon and it'll say last updated 10:30 - swipe to update and all my mail comes in.
The device is not in Stamina mode and I've even disabled the "queue background data" option but not joy. Removed and re-added my account also, oh and cleared out all of my devices in Exchange web mail.
Just downloaded TouchDown to see if its the native email application causing the issue and that works fine.
I am wondering if the last software update has caused an issue, been working fine up until a few weeks ago.
Adding 2 Exchange accounts after upgrading to 4.0.Get through the process of adding Gmail as exchange, no errors.Go to fetch mail / send mail etc. and it hangs saying "cannot connect to server".Is there some new way of adding gmail via exchange on 4.0?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to iOS 5.1, and shortly after, my connection to the gmail Exchange server stopped working, saying: Cannog Get Mail The connection to the server failed. I've tried deleting and re-adding the account, changing my password, and completly restoring my phone, but I still get that message when I try to check my mail. I can, however, set it up as a regular gmail account, and that works just fine. Furthermore, my calendar works when I set up the Exchange account, it's only the mail that doesn't. I can also see all of my gmail labels if I look in my mailboxes, but I can't receive data. What might be preventing my Exchange account from checking my mail?

Have set sync to push but on the summary screen it still tells me auto sync is off. And when accessing mail or calendar have to manually refresh...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI notice an push email delay of up to 15 minutes (but sometimes no delay) on all three of my MS Exchange accounts using the stock Google "Email" app. Have seen some talk of this around the internet. Only suggested solution was turn off WiFi Optimization, which I did, to no avail.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI decided to try Gmail set up as an exchange account (it was really buggy before) seems to be working fine now. But I have one question; When I delete messages do they get archived or do they get sent to trash? there's no option to specify this in settings as there is with the IMAP setup.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy exchange for gmail was working fine. Email, contacts and calendar. Then I was asked for the password because a pop up said it was incorrect. No matter how many times I enter the correct password, it stills says incorrect. I have tried the following
1. Delete and reinstall all email accounts several times. When I re-create the gmail exchange everything verifies and a minute later, I gt the pop up.
2. Delete iCloud account
3. Change password and try again
4. Add gmail account under gmail and that works fine but I'm still not getting my contacts.
5. Unlock captcha. When I follow the link I get a screen saying my identity needs to be verified and them I click okay and the screen says I have 10 minutes to use password on device. I never get he option to enter the scrambled code on my PC or phone Tried google double verification. None of these have worked despite multiple attempts. I have recently switched to google chrome and am using it under my PC laptop and iMac.

Can someone explain to me the advantages of setting up Gmail as an Exchange account on the iPhone 4?I've been searching all over and all I've found is that this setup will allow push emails. Are there any other advantages/disadvantages?I currently have Gmail setup through the default iPhone Gmail setup and my work email as Exchange.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an iPhone 4 and I have three email accounts setup.Corporate ExchangeCloudGmail
The top two work with no problem but when I try to send an email with my gmail account, I receive the following:
"The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.gmail.com" failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings > mail, contacts, calendars.
I have checked and rechecked and the settings are correct. I have deleted the account and set it up with the "other" option using Google's instructions. I have checked the SSL port numbers, they are correct and I have imap and POP enabled in my gmail account, and it still will not work. This did work at one time, and now it's not. Any thoughts?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have my Gmail account set up on my iPhone as Exchange, to get push email. The issue I am having:In my Gmail account settings, I have it set to send mail using only my initials, so that when I send a message to someone they will only see (A J) for example. When sending emails from my browser in gmail, this works fine. If I go to my iPhone, and send a response to an email thread, it will send from my full name. Any emails that I send from my iPhone automatically show my full name. Is there some type of account setting for this? I don't want it to use my full name when I send email from the phone. I have looked everywhere and don't see any setting for this. I have also called Apple support and they have no idea.
