IPhone :: 3GS - "The IPhone Xxx Could Not Be Restored Because The Firmware Is Not Compatible"
Apr 10, 2012
However, I am starting to develop an app for iOS, and want to use my iPhone to test, so I need to update the iOS to the latest version (5.1) When they unlocked it, they rolled it back to iOS 4.3 However, when I try via the automatic method in iTunes, it fails. And when I try downloading the file (iPhone2,1_5.1_9B176_Restore.ipsw) and either updating or restoring using it, I get the following error message: "The iPhone xxx could not be restored because the firmware is not compatible" I tried turning on the phone into recovery mode (holding down home button and reconnecting) and tried it that way, but it still doesn't work.
i have the latest 3rd gen iPad 32GB and iTunes 10.6. I have the IOS 6 beta downloaded on my windows laptop. I had someone add my UDID to there apple developers acount. However when i press Shift+Restore and select the beta file a i get an error sayng 'iPad could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.how to restore my iPad to the IOS 6 beta file i have downloaded?
Never jailbroken my phone, never wanted to. Just wanted to put some songs onto my iPhone 4 and it said some of the contents cannot be read and I needed to restore. So I clicked restore and it started to download the 5.1.1 update. Once this was done the error message:
"The iPhone iPhone' Could not be Restored Because Firmware is not Compatible" appeared.
So, I remembered I had been reminded on my phone that the 5.1.1 update was available through Settings on my phone, so I updated it that way. Successful update. I plug my phone back in and the contents still cannot be read, so I go to restore the phone again. Once again, "The iPhone iPhone' Could not be Restored Because Firmware is not Compatible."
Ive been trying to update my iPhone 4 OS. To 5 It is 4.3.3 now Each time I've tried, I get the error that my firmware is not compatible. I've tried to restore- first-- same error code

I was trying to update my iphone and it told me that my firmware was not compatible. What do I need to do? It also appears that I am not able to download the newest version of itunes. I click on download, and nothing seems to happen. I am using a pc.
I have an iPhone 5 GSM a1428. I am trying to update to IOS 8, and I have the right file, and I know how to do it. Also I have registered my UDID to get the download. Whenever I hit the file of ipsw, there is an error that says the firmware file is not compatible. I have tried numerous things to get it to work.

I plugged my iphone 3 into my imac for the first time in a few months just to fix my apps in folders and dump some photos into iphoto. It said it needed an update to 5.1 so I said ok. Took 30 minutes, so when came back it was restoring everything and then when it finished asked if it wanted to go back to a new iphone or a version from january...so all my pix are gone beause of an update...?

Restored my iPhone to sell it today. My SIM was still in the phone when I did the restore and after it restored and restarted it still had my number when I clicked on "iPhone" in iTunes. Even without the SIM it still reads my number, is this because the phone was automatically activated with the SIM in it after the restore?
