HTC One M8 :: Kernel Or Android System And Media Server Battery Drain

Nov 17, 2014

the GSAM app on my HTC ONE M8 says that my app usage is higher than my screen and three of the main battery drainers are: Kernel (Android OS), Android System and System (Mediaserver).

I use my phone properly, charge it very well and have had 4 android phones. None were like this. I have the latest firmware for the M8 (4.4.4). My screen on time is not that good now, around 2-3 hours but when I first got the phone (3 months ago) it was 4-5 hours.

Galaxy S6 :: Games Built For Android Drain More Battery

Sep 2, 2015

My phone is one of the "not so good battery" variety, so it needs to be charged mid day every day.

Today I couldn't go to work due to hurricane and thunderstorms near me. so I sat back and played some N64 Zelda for 2 hours and what do you know, I'm at 60% with 2 hours of SoT... probably the best SoT I've ever gotten (I'm guessing I'm gonna have 5 hours SoT today? estimate?) but when playing something like dead trigger with the same exact Bluetooth controller the battery drains much faster. (I would say the same battery wasted in half the time)

LG G4 :: Android System Drain

Nov 2, 2015

LG G4 recently, specifically the battery life. Yesterday, it somehow discharged from 100% to 20% three times in one day, on normal usage. I just don't know what is wrong with the phone. Android (and GSam) claim that the highest user of battery is Android System and Android OS.

What I have done:
-Used LG Access Lock to deny keep awake and location permissions
----worked for a few days and then battery life fell back off
-Full reset of phone
----battery life is actually worse after the reset
-Battery saving location settings

Possible suspects:
-Pebble watch --- constant on bluetooth maybe?
-Facebook/Messenger/Snapchat/etc --- wanting my location constantly?

Galaxy S6 :: What Is Normal And Expected Level Of Battery Usage For Android System

Jun 1, 2015

I generally don't have trouble getting through a work day with my S6, but I do wonder whether the Android utilization is high. During a typical day (1 - 2 hours SOT, 14-15 hours off charger), I'm burning about 60%-70% of total battery, 30% of which is Android System (~22%) and Android Kernel (~8%). Google Play and other apps are all typically < 5%. Is this normal, or does this indicate that a factory reset might be a good idea? On previous phones I don't recall core Android being this high (usually <10%).

Xperia Z2 :: Android OS Battery Drain

Feb 27, 2015

So when I opened up my battery usage I noticed that Android OS was at 70% usage (69% now in screenshots).  I check my battery usage several times throughout the day and Android OS was not consuming 70%.  It seemed to spike to 70% consumption, which points to an error in battery usage charts.

The steeper drops at the beginning and toward the end can be attributed to the poor reception areas I was in and my heavier screen on time during those periods.  The flat portion in the middle is when I went to bed and left my phone for about 8 hours.  Notice there are no huge wake locks during my time off battery.

This is my current screen on time....

I'm guessing this is an error with the battery usage calculator but I'm not completely sure. How to know if this is an error with the battery usage or is Android OS really consuming 70% and how I should fix it?

Google Nexus 6 :: Android Core Apps Causing Massive Battery Drain?

Jul 9, 2015

I usually watch Netflix in bed then go to sleep. In the last week, I occasionally wake up to find my batter drained (down 80+%) overnight. According to GSAM, the culprit is Android Core Apps. Not sure what that is. I thought maybe Netflix was still downloading, but that's not Android Core Apps.

This is Nexus 6 on 5.1.1 using mobile radio only (no wifi).

HTC One M8 :: Kernel And Android System Battery Consumption

Jan 3, 2015

I just got my new One M8 a few days ago and ran into some battery draining issue. After charging the device (second charge if to be precise), I went to sleep with 99% battery while all apps are closed, Wi-Fi is turned off and Battery Saver wasn't on. After 6.5~ hours, the battery was at 89%. In my opinion 10% drain overnight, during standby is a lot and that's why I'm a bit concerned.

Based on some recommendations, I installed GSam Battery Monitor, please see below results. It looks like Kernel and Android System consumes 36% which is a lot. How to decrease the consumption and what causes the Kernel and Android System to consume 36%?

On that matter, it seems like the GSam consumes 5.8%. When I close the app, does it stop monitoring and consuming power or it works in the background and keeps sucking the battery?

Motorola Xoom :: 4G - 4.0.4 "Android OS" Battery Drain

Jun 18, 2012

I have (as probably quite a few of you) upgraded my Xoom from HC to ICS (3.2.6->4.0.4). After the upgrade, I saw a massive battery drain and began wondering what was going on. I noticed the "Android OS" process was keeping the tablet awake through the middle of the night and I assumed it was the culprit.

Given that the Android OS process is part of the system kernel, I figured something went wrong in the upgrade. Flashed back to 3.2.3 Honeycomb from the motorola website, and did OTA upgrades all the way back to 4.0.4.

I left apps off, completely stock, locked, and back to the way someone would get it brand new. I did not install anything; and went to sleep for the night.

I woke up to about a 10% battery drain, the Android OS had used 80% of that 10%. Before ICS I was able to go 5+ days with moderate use on my tablet (Juicedefender and various other helpers), now I can barely make 1-2 days.

Galaxy S6 :: Battery Drain With Phone Off?

Jun 22, 2015

I just bought a Galaxy S6 yesterday, and something weird happened. I had it charged to around 75% yesterday in the evening, I switched it off, and when I came back this evening (about 22 hours later) and turned it back on, my battery was dead (0%). It refused to start at first, and only turned on with the charger plugged in.

Since I just got the phone, I had very few apps and accounts running aside from Google and Samsung (no email account, facebook or anything like that).

Is it faulty? I am going to try again this evening, but I would like to know whether I should consider bringing it back anyway...

Galaxy S6 :: How Does The Battery Drain On Phone

Apr 20, 2015

On my G3, when I fully charge the phone, it would stay at 100% for a VERY long time before dropping down to 99%. The most I've gotten out of the 1% before was about 25 minutes of SoT.

On my S6, once the phone is fully charged, it seems to drop to 99% very quickly, within just a couple minutes of using the device.

What causes this difference between the two models and does your S6 act the same way as mine?

Galaxy S6 :: Ridiculous Battery Drain And Heat

The 2 main issues I have are:

I'm running stock, straight of the box, no root. And yesterday for example I went from 100% to15% in 7 hours....and this is at work with my phone sat on my desk not being used.Settings is saying that Google services is killing the battery, that and Android OS.Google services has a 'Stay awake' of over 3hrs and 'Mobile radio active' of over 2hrs All other apps also have a high 'Mobile radio active'Is this a bug in 5.1.1?

Second issue: How hot does this phone get!?Any usage of more than a couple of minutes with the screen on and its warm, getting towards hot.Use the camera for example and it gets hot...borderline too hot to touchFor me the main issue is the crappy battery life.

Galaxy S6 :: Location History And Possible Battery Drain

Sep 7, 2015

First of all, I know a lot of people who only has Location on all the time just for their Weather widgets and apps to refresh your weather information, you don't need your Actual Location to have that, you can simply turn that off on the weather app or widget and enter your city or cities manually, it will give you the same information the only difference is that it will not ping your location all the time to do it.

I have tested all settings and I have found that the one that does the job while preserve the battery life the most is the Wifi and Cell signal only option, in other phones it's called Power Saving Mode. I've been using this option all the time for the past couple of months and it really uses very low battery, barely noticeable, this way I keep my location on to be able to use the locate device and other location services. I only change to high accuracy (GPS, WIFi and Cell) for my daily 5k runs or if I need to use Google maps or any other Maps apps. There are people who use GPS only but I've noticed that it increases (obviously) the gpsd service in my battery stats and it drains battery a lot more than Power saving Mode.

Location History is not needed for the Location Services to work, this is just a Google Service to enable other features. Take a look at this information. Google’s Location History is Still Recording Your Every Move.

Until mid April, when we had 2 separate options, Location reporting and Location History, I had location history on but Reporting off as it was besides the Screen, the number 1 battery drainer on Android, and I frankly didn't want to be "reporting" Google all my moves, but now that they incorporated both into just one setting, I just prefer to turn it off. Check this other link. Understanding Google's Android location tracking | Android Central.

Galaxy S6 :: Battery Drain In Specific Locations

Aug 16, 2015

Whenever I'm at school my battery drains exponentially. Today I was writing a final exam and had my phone in my bag for 3 hours, in that time the battery dropped from 80% to 45%. I don't think my signal is the problem because I have 3-4 bars of lte at all times when I'm at school. As for optimizations I'm doing most of the tips erasat provided in his thread. I am connected to wifi too. The battery stats on the phone doesn't show anything is draining my battery. What could be the culprit?

Also this only happens when I'm at school not anywhere else. This has been going on ever since I got my s6 (3 months).
