Galaxy S5 :: Airplane Mode Is Allowing Email To Come Through And Notification
Jan 11, 2015
Samsung Galaxy S5 / version 4.4.4 (not rooted)
I use the phone alarm clock at night and use airplane at night to turn anything off so I'm not receiving notifications for texts, emails and other things. Somehow, occasionally an email gets through and I get a notification. This happened today a 430am and woke me up (3 hours before I actually needed to get up!)
I went into Airplane Mode today using the widget. It turned off my Wifi (but not GPS?) and went into Airplane Mode just fine. Then when using the widget to turn Airplane Mode off I see my Wifi turn back on, but the Airplane Mode isn't removed. The only way I can find to actually take the phone out of Airplane mode is to hold the power button and toggle it from the silent/airplane/power popup.
when I set my phones alarm clock at night, the phone has recently started going into airplane mode of its own accord. This isn't affecting the alarm but obviously I am missing any texts or phonecalls coming through and don't get them until I wake and change the phone mode back. I am running ICS 4.0.3 LPS rooted using Chainfires kernel.
I just got my brand new S6 128 gb from ATT and when I go into airplane mode I get this prompt asking me to confirm, but it seems like there is no way to disable it which is pretty annoying. Any app that will allow me to go into airplane mode without getting a prompt? My previous M9 did not have this problem. Also I do not mind sideloading an app that allows me to have this capability.
I am traveling out of the country and my S6 is in airplane mode with wifi on and connected to a wifi network in a different country. However, the time zone is not updating, even though the phone knows I'm not in the Pacific time zone anymore (in Google Maps, it shows that I am in a different country). My previous Android phone, the Motorola DROID MAXX, also did not update the time zone despite being connected to a wifi network in a different country.
Interestingly enough, my iPhone 6 Plus, which is also in airplane mode with wifi on, does detect that I'm in a different time zone (once it connects to the wifi network) and changes the time automatically.
Am I missing a setting? Or is this a normal (non)function of Android phones?
If i set my phone to airplane mode (which i usually do at night) the next morning i'll find it with near to no battery and just hanged on the samsung logo. I've tried to leave it out of airplane mode a whole night and it did not crash. Now just today, to see it happen, i set it to airplane mode, within an hour/hour and a half i tried to pick it up and wasnt responding to any button and suddenly shows the samsung logo.
So i'm pretty sure now that the behavior is linked to Airplane mode. I've cleared cache etc. I'm just not sure where to start. There must be something that just crashes the phone when in airplane mode. Going for factory reset is out of the question for now (well idealy). ps : it was fine under KK
Where to start/what to look for ? I'm in the meantime downloading the Android SDK, after that I'll put the usb debugging on and have an adb logcat running and force a crash again.
Just updated two days ago and my Airplane Mode icon will take me to the settings screen where I have to tap on Airplane Mode again which turns it into a two step process and makes the icon pointless. The other thing is that the screen is not dimming like it did in Power Saver mode. I keep my screen about 1/3 because indoors it's all I need and it would drop it about 10% before I updated to 4.3. Now it keeps it at the 1/3 default no matter what. I can't really say whether it's having a dramatic effect on battery life, but it would be nice to get that extra 5% in times of need.
I have had the hTC one for the past 5 days. This is my first android phone and so far liking it except for the bug that I encountered. The phone goes to airplane mode when it is sleeping. At work I try to connect to the wifi network to save on the MegaBytes in my T-mobile plan. When the phone goes into the airplane mode I can get it out of it only by pressing the power on button continuously and a menu shows up that allows me to disable the airplane mode.
it is frustrating that a great phone has a bug such as this that might prevent me from receving calls even when there is a signal present. I am hoping this can be resolved just by a software update.
I have a problem with Xperia z 3.. It did not cam out from airplane mode (I was on off mode untill now) and I don't have now available Sim work (It showed me no signal when I am calling)...
Battery drain months ago prior to an OS update, but I only purchased my M9 two months ago, and the battery drain has been shocking.I haven't rooted the phone, or done anything to it. I turned off Google Now. I keep screen brightness on relatively low. I turned off notifications for all apps, including really active ones like Facebook and Instagram. I keep GPS off unless I need it. No Bluetooth, nothing. And yet my battery just drains and drains.
Last Sunday I kept my phone on airplane mode for most of the day (I did turn the mode off a few times to check texts but then turned back on again). My battery kept draining throughout the day, I started the day at 100%, and by 6pm it was at 20% battery. ON AIRPLANE MODE! I can't upload a screenshot right now but battery usage stats say Google Services used 38% of my battery during the day - what is this?! I turn off most things so that Google can't use my phone or notify me of anything, and yet it uses my battery so badly.
It's making me hate my phone - my old Nexus 5 and then OnePlus One was never this bad. I'm actually jealous of my iPhone friends who can use their phone for a day and a half before charge runs out!!
My Verz HTC One "stays awake" in airplane mode...I put my phone in airplane mode at work due to no signal but my battery will drain and my battery history shows the phone awake the whole time (no screen shot) Hard reset fixes problem only for a short period..there are no apps running...
I bought HTC one 3weeks ago..everything was going good initially but later got this issue. The airplane mode gets turned on automatically at 11pm every day. This could be an issue with the settings, but dint any option to set it correct.
I am going on a cruise to Mexico Monday and I want to be able to leave my iPhone on to listen to my iTunes and use the Wi-Fi... If I put my phone on airplane mode will it run the bill up with roaming charges?? The only reason I'm worried is because its a company phone and my boss will freak out!! lol
My phone seems to have reverted to Airplane Mode without me touching this and i am unable to get this off. Whenever i select the Airplane Mode to OFF, it does state it is OFF, however, the actual phone still remains in this mode, therefore, i cannot make calls/send messages/emails etc.
Yesterday i successfully upgraded my E52 to latest firmware - 031.012. After upgrade i removed all previous email accounts (1 MFE, 1 pop and 1 imap) and start a new setup.i have to mention, that i double checked that the email client version has updated to 2.1.0 (the old one was 2.0.5). There are also several visual changes during the email setup.
Now here is my issue: I recreated my exchange email account and it works perfectly, but when i try to add a second email account (Email->New), choose one of the providers from the list (Windows Live for example) and proceed here is what happens:
1. I get a promt to enter email address and password
2.Then "Validating settings" and "Downloading terms" progress bars start
3. After "Downloading terms" progress bar completes i am returned at the page where have to choose email provider again
Is there someone with similar issue as mine when has upgraded to 031.012?
I know this is probably a really stupid question but this is the last chance to try and locate my gf's iphone which she has just lost in a taxi somewhere in Hong Kong. As she does not have international roaming she had it set on airplane mode so it's not like she can just call it up and find out if it's been handed in Is there anyway to remotely turn off airplane mode?I realise the automatic response might be 'well if she doesn't have a cellular network, how do you think you could sent anything to the phone even if there was a way to do it" but I'm literally grasping at straws here
I've had the phone for less than a month. Every time I turn my phone on the Airplane Mode ON is showing on the startup screen, but when I go into settings it is unticked, so meant to be off.
Also, I've noticed that the NFC has sometimes been automatically ticked in the settings when I turn it on.
I did a factory reset, but that never changed anything.
I then contacted Sony Support and took their advice to go into PC Companion and click Software Updates, then Repair, which it did, but it is still coming on in Airplane Mode, even when unticked in settings.
My mobile network has been disconnected because of it and is telling me I can't make calls until Flight Mode is switched off, even when I switch it off on the startup screen too.
My M8 isn't receiving signal, everything else works fine, I checked the sim card in another phone and it works.
I did notice that airplane mode is stuck tuning off.
I rooted the phone (very new to rooting) but didn't go so far as to flash a mod. I unrooted the phone back to stock. It was fine for a couple of weeks, then one day randomly lost signal.
My nexus 5 got stuck in airplane mode so I could neither send texts or make and recieve phone calls. Have already sent it to be fixed with sucess however a week later it stopped working again. Tried a hard reset but it has not worked.
My iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1, cannot grab a signal after I turned my iphone into airplane mode because my sim is not roaming sim to avoid battery drain due to searching of carrier, after going back to the country, i turned off airplane mode but No service is shown, I tried restoring it, turning it off and many things.
