BB Curve :: 8520 Still Charges Via Usb?
Apr 4, 2012My Curve 8520 still charges via usb, but fails to connect to the desktop software. Tried updating software, reinstalled it etc, no obvious damge to usb cable.

BB Curve :: 8520 Wont Turn On After Being Charges For Four Hours?
Jun 15, 2011I've just recieved my bb curve 8520 and after it being on charge for over 4 hours, it will not turn on. The screen is showing the blackberry logo, with a bar underneath as if it was updating. the bar only reaches a certain point beofre it stops.Does anyone have any ideas about why this is and what I can do to turn it on??

Aug 8, 2012I've been trying to work on my mothers old Curve Gemini ... She has no use for it so i decided I'd take charge of it. I was wondering , if the battery was dead or something because it wouldn't turn on , it showed a charging symbol when i put it on charge in the car ( then my only charger for that type of phone ) it charged for a good while so i took it off and it died.... After a got a wall charger i had it on for two days straight and when i take it off it dies... I got a new battery (35 bucks us here ) and put it in , the same thing even with charging

Mar 10, 2011My daughters boyfriend gave her his old Blackberry Curve 8900, after he got a newer blackberry on his contract. My daughter just used her old sim from her old tmobile phone. I pay £15 per month for her to have 600 minutes and unlimited texts.But since using her sim in the BB, there have been strange charges appearing on her statement. She doesn't use any apps on there, and hasn't seen anything happening on the phone so we're at a loss as to what these charges are.They are only a few pence, but last month it came to over £7 and this month in just 3 days the total is already £2.She popped into our local tmobile store and was told that BB's are not supposed to be used without a data package, whatever that's supposed to mean.Tmobile do a booster for unlimited internet for just under £5 but I can't really afford to be paying that every month, i'd just rather get rid of these extra charges all together. I thought that maybe my battery is just so drained since I usually charge when my battery is dead.But i have noticed that in the succeeding days, it really charges so slow. And today, as i speak, is the worst.I have started charging at 10am and until now (time here in the Philippines is 3:30pm), it is still low battery. Thus, it has been 5 hours of charging.

Aug 24, 2010If anyone out there could lend me a helping hand with this. Well, im not a very heavy BB user but ive never had my batt go dead on me but it happened! i totally couldnt turn my phone on until i put in my charger.Then it happens randomly whereby my phone will heat up and the battery drops 5% every 10mins or so! until it shuts off!! It happened once right after i fully charged my phone and it shut off within the next hour.Anyone knows whats happening?? i suspected whether it was any of my installed apps that are draining my batt, so i shut off everything! i mean no msn no foursquare no twitter only emails are on but yet it still happens!!Help please? i hope its just the batt thats screwed not my phone.

Aug 11, 2010I have an ATT 8520 Curve unlocked to work with a tmobile sim card and have a few questions...Now that's unlocked I cant setup an external email account (hotmail, gmail, etc...) that icon is missing from the setup section. how can I get that feature? can I also use the bbm feature? I added a friend (and vice-versa) but it just stays as pending. is it possible to bbm? for the above 2 do i need to get the bb data plan so they can work? I've read elsewhere that the best way to get the features would be to load the tmobile handheld software. I went to tmobiles site, I enter my ph# - select the 8520 - click on handheld and it takes me to their 'shop for phones' page. I guess they now by the number that i dont currently have a bb. So I tried a friends ph# from tmobile who has a bb and it still took me to the 'shop for phones' page. So I Am hoping it's just a link glitch going on right now. I did download from this forum the 5.0 OS "8520wifiM_PBr5.0.0_rel860_PL5.2.0.47_A5.0.0.509_W ind_Hellas.exe" which obviously is not tmobile. What would loading this different OS allow me to do? Or what features will I have available? and I have lowercase 'edge'.

We now have official word from RIM via press release today that unless you have a 9650, 9700, or Pearl3G you have to buy a new phone to get OS 6:"Subject to carrier certifications in the months ahead, the new OS is expected to be available for the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700, BlackBerry® Bold™ 9650 and BlackBerry® Pearl™ 3G, as well as future BlackBerry smartphones."
That being said, are you going to be dumping your 8520/30 for something new just to get OS6?

Jul 5, 2010got a 8520 a couple of months ago, and after two weeks the phone speaker would break up when making a call, so you could only hear 1 in 3 words someone was saying, and inbetween was silence.T-mobile sent me a new one out next day, but now after 4 months the new one has started doing it.Can make calls fine with ear piece, speakerphone is working for playing music, haven't tried it for calls, and handset speaker works fine for music too, but breaks up when phoning anyoneThe second time it happened was just after okaying an upgrade. Anyone heard of this before?

Apr 19, 2010My 8520 was working fine last night but the battery was down to 10% charge.
Charged the battery up and phone worked fine and I turned it off before going to bed.
The phone turned on fine this morning and was showing a full charge. I did turn it off when I got to work and when I went to turn it back on when I went to lunch I got nothing. The LED glows briefly and faintly when I try to power the phone on.
I tried hooking to my car charger but with the same results.

I just got my new Curve 8520 from O2 (UK) and the software version is 4.6.1.314.. this seems to be really old?
Should I try an OTA update or should I force one using the links I can probably find on here?
I'm having a few issues with gmail not notifying me and a few other things, and I figure they have upgraded software for a reason!

Jul 10, 2010I'm having a bit of a problem updating to the latest version of firmware for my 8520. Currently I've got v4.6.1.314 but Vodafone have released v5.0.0.1168 so I'd like to upgrade to that.
I've already downloaded and installed the firmware on my computer but when I try to use the App loader to install it on my blackberry it tells me v4.6 is the most recent available.
Any ideas why v5 won't show up when I try to install it?

May 15, 2010I'm trying to update my 8520 to 5.0, and no matter what I try I cannot get the thing to work, I've tried to delete and reinstall the update of my computer many times (5.0.0.509, platform 5.2.0.47), tried unplugging the internet, turning off connections on my phone, taking out the SD card, I mean just about everything, except wiping my phone, obviously I'm saving this for a last resort. I'm not on a carrier (etisalat) where the update is released, and probably won't be for a long time. So I've deleted the vendor file and all that, and when I go into loader.exe or Desktop Manager, the only option for my phone is the 4.6 software.
I don't know what else I can do?

It got me thinking, although it uses wifi to carry out the call, it initiates as a standard phone call so even when it switches to wifi does it still maintain that cellular connection and then the call comes out of your inclusive minutes or charges you? It got me thinking because if the new iPod does get FaceTime, with no cellular connection they obviously cant initiate the call in the same way the iPhone 4 does. Which then led me to think if you just go straight to the FaceTime button in the contacts app and use that does that go straight to a FaceTime call and therefore does not do anything cellular?
