BB Curve :: 8520 How To Make Sure Opera Mini Uses Wifi To Connect To Internet
Sep 23, 2011
currently I am running Opera mini on the 8520 Curve.I have turned on gprs & wifi. How can I make sure the Opera Mini uses wifi to connect to the internet? It does not show wifi or gprs in the right top corner.
I'm trying to use my Curve 8520 to connect to the internet using my home Wi-Fi. I have not trouble connecting and downloading apps, or using web sites. The problem comes when I try to use one of the apps which needs and internet connection (Blackberry App World, Facebook, Google, etc.). All of these apps generate an error message saying that they are having trouble connecting to the internet and that I should verify my network connections. This leads me to believe I have a setting wrong somewhere.
I have Opera Mini 5 on my Blackberry right now and it works great. It's just the fact that I can't set a homepage bothers me a little. Also, the mouse seems to be a little slow (maybe incompatible with the trackpad?) and that annoys. Would Mini 4 be any better? It's a lot faster than the default for sure. If I downgrade to Mini 4, what really would I miss?
When I download it from the Opera site, it says it installed, but when I try to run it. It gives me another installing progress bar that reaches half way through then says "Unable to connect to the Internet, check your settings" although I have a BB internet connection that's always on. I tried the remove battery trick but that didn't help.
Running BB OS 4.6. I'm on my THIRD 8520 now, all previous handsets bombed out and froze with that godawful 'Restore Software: Error 552 ' No amount of visits or calls to Blackberry Support helped and the phone OS couldn't be reset. What a pain in the *bleep* not to mention data and software loss. The ONLY common factor was Opera Mini 5 , which sometimes froze, unable to exit. So a soft or hard reset (battery out) Then wait and wait and wait Then blank screen then Restore Software: Error 552. Still not sure if it's an Opera Mini issue or general out of memory issue. And there's no easy goddam way to kill a running process without a battery reset.
I've got DLink Wi-Fi router at home. All computers need only the key and connect to the Internet without any problem. But my new xperia mini wan't. It connects to the router, says: "Connected. Signal is very good." But it doesn't go to the Internet, says: "web-page is unavailable".

I bought an 8520 in Egypt a few weeks ago and used all internet services successfully with a provider there (Mobinil).
I had the PIN freed by Mobinil so I could register it with O2 in the UK, but I'm unable to access internet services although I'm on the correct data plan and my PIN is free to register. The handset works fine for calls and SMS via O2.
I bought a blackberry curve 8520 a few days ago and i am currently with optus/boost. when i connected my wifi and tried to conenct to the internet it wouldn't work. The message: 'Data connection refused to the wireless network and your BlackBerry cannot connect a data session to the WAP gateway'. appears on the screen. I have an unlimited data plan. The wifi symbol appears on my screen with the name of my wifi network however the symbol is in grey.
I have a bb 8520 but wifi not working, nor the internet. the carrier doesnt know what is the problem.i want to attempt reloading the os but I checked bb site and GT&T not listed. Digicel is listed wihch is the other carrier in the country. Would i encounter any problem if i used digicel os download on a phone with a GT&T sim?
My partner has a BB Curve 8520 and tried to install an app from bbworld yesterday, the phone restarted and now gets 3/4 of the way across the bar and fails to load anymore, Ive done some research and realised i need to reinstall the os, The problem being we only have one usb lead and i use that to tether internet through my bb torch, Iv downloaded the installation files but whenever i start it 'checks for updates', which i believe means online, it will not go past this step, Is there a way to manually reinstall the os without having to connect to the internet? If i try connecting to the desktop software it recognises my device and pin but says it cant connect so needs to update, and leaves me with the same problem.
I have downloaded the Opera Mini from Blackberry AppWorld for a Blackberry 9790. It was fine and working for a day or two, but now it would not launch, saying that it is "unable to connect. Please review your network settings". What am I supposed to do in this situation?
I have recently changed my blackberry plan to instant messages and email only and now i cannot access the internet over my home wifi. It connects but remains grayed out and no internet pages will load. I have hot rebooted several times and there is no problem with my wifi
I have a bb curve 8520, I currently connect to my home wifi an have been fine using that, all of a sudden its not working! my BB used to connect to my wireless network but for some odd reason it doesnt anymore: it recognizes the network but cannot connect to the internet. On the other hand, it connects to any other network: ive successfully connected to many friends wireless and many restaurants' wireless without any problem. Its worth mentioning that my BB used to connect fine with my homes wireless and i just woke up one day to find that it isnt working anymore (the wifi sign remains gray, in the "wifi connections" there is a connection and theres a white line in the black box instead of a tick.Is there any way to fix this?
I have a blackberry curve 8520 and I have a problem the phone is suppose to be able to run all internet except bbm through wifi even when I have no credit or active bbm. I can't log into msn or even access any other website from it all I can get on is fb's home page.
i have recently upgraded the software on my phone and now i cant connect to any wifi spots at work or at home. the wifi icon just stays grey but at the top of the phone, it shows i am connected to networks.
where i live i have no mobile signal and i rely on the WIFI to get my emails through.
When I bought this device, my wi-fi connection is doing well but after a month of using, I suddenly have trouble connecting to the internet. Instead of a green tickmark next to the wi-fi setting, it's a white dash that has been appearing. The wi-fi logo at the top of the screen is colored gray and there's a word "edge" over it.
I recently had to format my W995 as it was getting sluggish. It used to take a really long time to load once the phone was switched off. (It could be due to the mods though. The only two mods were Rodriguez' HDX 3.0 cam driver and LightEffects V3.) And finally, the other day, the phone turned unresponsive and I had to restart the phone but it would just show the standby screen and the screen would just turn off and turn on again. I had to flash it with SEUS and it works well now. My only issue is that Opera Mini 5 (and the versions before that i.e. 4.2) simply doesn't work over wifi. It now only works using my 3G connection. It used to work perfectly fine before flashing. The Netfront browser does work over wifi and I've even manually entered the IP address, DNS, Gateway etc. Any ideas on where I'm going wrong? Local connections are enabled and other programs can connect over wifi.
I have a Blackberry Curve 8520. I bought it on july. It worked very well, but since 3 months ago, i can't connect the BB to internet (with Wi-Fi or WAP).

i am trying to connect my blackberry curve 8520 to my own wi-fi at home, but it will not connect me to the router?its says to enter a pin to the router... i have watched videos on Internet and followed them step by step, but yet it still does not connect, this is what i have done:
-went to main menu -clicked on 'manage connections' -made sure the 'wi-fi on' box is ticked -then clicked 'set up wi-fi network' -scan for networks -clicked on the network which is my router -then it comes up saying
'provisioning wi-fi profiles...enter this pin into your wireless router: 18104707 time remaining 4:11.'
I already set up my wifi network yesterday and i was able to browse but it stopped working just this morning. It prompted that the available wifi network is available but each time I am attempting to connect it says: Unable to connect. Reason Failure to connect to the network.
