BB Curve 8520/8530 :: BB Curve 8530 - Keyboard Lock Update
Jul 16, 2010I just downloaded the new OS when I plugged my phone to the computer... it sounded like a good idea to upgrade everything but I do not like how the UNlock function is only through the mute button now. I mean, if I wanted to just lock/unlock my phone that way with the push of only one button, I could use the standby (mute) button and press on it again to unlock it before. I really liked the previous version where you had to take the extra step of pushing two buttons (A and Send) to unlock it. Because I unlock my phone by accident a lot when it's in my purse and I reach for something and accidentally press the top button (mute button). Any ideas if Blackberry is planning on a new OS version soon that would restore the old locking/unlocking system? I do not necessarily want to downgrade to a previous OS version but I might have to as the "easy" one-button only unlocking option is not working for me.

Jul 27, 2010I updated my phone the other day with the v5.0.0.734 OS. It wiped out everything. I had to go back and restore my contacts, reload ringtones and apps, etc. Got everything back the way it was now.
I have three email accounts synced to it. All are active, Wi-fi on, network on. New mail isn't showing up on my handset, only from my gmail account, the hotmails aren't showing up. Used to be you could look in the folder for each email account and see what emails were there, then there was one folder that showed all of them. What am I missing?

BB Curve 8520/8530 :: How To Update OS Update To 5.0.0.411- UMA Works Properly
May 19, 2010I've upgraded from my original OS to 5.0.0.411 (i think) at the start of the year with no problems. Two days ago I attempted the upgrade to .681 which was fine, but I'm not keen on the update as the UMA isn't working properly, so I want to downgrade.
So last night I managed to get back to the original OS 4.? (I was having probs with a straight forward downgrade to another OS5) and tried to upgrade to the Vodafone Italy (I'm on Orange UK) but it wasn't being recognised with the Desktop Blackberry software (vendor file was deleted), although when I went into the upgrade part on the app loader, it did appear there, but with an asterisk saying I had to be registered with Blackberry to be eligible for the upgrade (or something like that). I attempted the upgrade but the software wouldn't allow it.
I removed that software and tried with the Wind release, but again the desk top software didn't recognise it.I tried the .681 release again and the upgrade worked fine
I would really like to go back to a stable OS where the UMA works. Any ideas how to do it with the Vodafone Italy release? Or am I being blocked somehow as I'm registered to Orange UK? If so does anyone have a link to download another earlier release that is stable and not carrier associated?

Sep 11, 2010Okay, I've been at this for a few hours now, and I'm at wits end.I absolutely cannot upgrade from OS 4.6 to 5.0
I have tried the desktop software about a million times, it keeps saying no updates available. I've tried using the app loader. Nothing. I've tried downloading the specific 5.0 software for AT&T BB Curve 8520. App loader says it is incompatible with the device.
I have tried following this: How to Install or Upgrade to a New RIM BlackBerry Operating System (OS) with AppLoader | CrackBerry.com .Still did not help.
I have also tried doing it OTA style. The damn thing says there's no updates available on this either.I've been reading through just about every OS 5 thread I could get my hands on and nothing has made this process work.

When i go to the blackberry site & find the software & click update it opens blackberry desktop manager and then starts to do some searching. Then it says to choose which software i want to install but only gives me the option of the software i have already on the phone or to downgrade my boyfriend has the same phone and i tried it on his yesterday and it worked saying he could install v.5.0.. im thinking i should just take it back to the shop & get them to update it,

It messed up my contacts birthdays on the calendar again (just like every update ive downloaded since i got my phone), but besides that I thought everything was fine. But then, After using it for a few days, I've occassionally been unable to hear anything during calls. It works most of the time, but occassionally, when someone calls me and i pick up; it says "Connected", I don't hear anything. Same with vice versa, when I call them, it says "Connected" and I dont hear anything.

Feb 11, 2010After doing a few battery pulls its still not working.I've done some searching now for about an hour and comming up empty handed. I have a friend with an 8520 Curve from I-Wireless. After a couple days of using it his trackpad stopped. Now to me from reading it seem that most problems lie with the 8520 series and also seems that its a software issue as a batt pull will fix it for abit. Will updating to os 5.0 beta fix this problem or does the problem lie elsewhere?

Mar 7, 2010I have a blacberry working with Orange France. I had an error message when I pulled out the battery (App Error 523, reset" ). So I send the firmware 8520M_PBr5.0.0_rel661_PL5.2.0.31_A5.0.0.411.exe, and he could start.
However, when I put my sim card (working on my nokia) , it doesn't work (invalid). I've asked for an unlock code, but when I enter it, the BB freeze (I always have 10 tries). I've tried with another simcard (Orange, SFR...) and the result is the same.

Jul 5, 2010I know this is not a major problem, however, it is one that has totally confused me. When someone sends me a text I have always had the option of either clearing the chat or deleting the chat. After the most recent update using my Blackberry desktop the deleting the chat option is no longer listed. What could have possibly happened?

Apr 12, 2010I have several confounding issues. My new Curve 8530 will not boot. Nothing appears on the screen. The only thing it does is flash the red LED indicator once and then 4 quick consecutive times. In searching the forum, suggestions say to run apploader. However, I get stuck because my device can never be recognized by my computer!I was installing a factory update over the air. I cancelled the download because I thought doing it over Desktop Manager would be much faster. I connected the device via USB (for the first time ever). Drivers were recognized and were being installed. After a while, nothing happened with the device OR the computer. Now I have a brick of a phone that only blinks the LED at me. The device cannot be detected by my computer when I run apploader directly or through Desktop Manager. Yes, I have also tried fiddling with the Connection Options in DM.

Jul 13, 2010AI have look around the Forum and have found nothing that will help with the situation at hand.. I decided to do a Wireless Software update on my Blackberry 8530 (Sprint) and as the process began it came to a halt. The overall Restore Progress is stuck at 1% and the Current Database: BBGroups is stuck at 69%. I figured that I would take some time so I ran this update before going to bed last night, Well 9 hrs later and we are still stuck at the same progress. I tried to do a battery pull and that didnt do much, The device reset and automatically restarted the update freezing at the same exact place. There is no option to cancel the update and it will not allow me to even access my BB home page.

Sep 13, 2010i had OS 5.0.0.5 and yesterday i decided to update it to .822 so i could put Hybrid Willyboy v.2 on my phone ( by the way i have a 8520 Gemini). I did manage to update it to version .822 and at first i didnt notice anything wrong with my phone, so i tried to put the hybrid on it but since i didnt manage to put the hybrid on my first try, i decided to give it a shot in the morning and go to bed since it was really late. And now i cant make calls nor get any, because it says Invalid SIM Card, already tried taking off the battery and cleaning a bit my sim with an eraser but when the phone starts it all appears to be fine but within a couple of minutes it gives me the same error!!

Feb 16, 2010My husband got a curve 8530 the other day. All of the people in his address book have "classic ringer" as their custom ring tone along with the volume set about midway like its some kind of default setting. I have tried changing the profiles/ringtones and creating new ones (with different tones) this does not change the ringer for those 80+ people. In the Set Contact Alert menu there are only 3 people with a custom tone showing.The Classic Ring is not loud enough for him to hear and no matter how I try to change the default ringer it does not change the ring for the contact list.I've done a battery pull, no change.Updated it to newest OS.Contact list was imported from a Storm 2(he likes having actual buttons to push).
Am I missing something or 1) shouldn't all those people show up in the Set Contact Alert Menu, if there is a custom tone set up or 2) shouldn't their default change if I change the default for the phone.I haven't checked all of them, but did check at least 10 and regardless of what I do they're still the same. Ringer shows Classic all other options say active profile.Is there any way I can change their default ringer without having to give each one a custom ring--too time consuming?

Feb 4, 2010I had a 8330 (for 2 months) that would reboot itself constantly. Does not do it anymore 'cause I returned it for a 8530. The 8530 that I've had since Jan 01 is better, it only does it now and then when it is tethered to my pc.. Rendering it just about useless for my business activities. US Cellular is at a loss. Should I accept this defect as part of the BB experience?

May 10, 2010I'm gettin sick n tired of this trackball on the 8330, I recently had to fix it cause it would only go up... so onto a new Blackberry! Can anyone give me some input about the 8530? I hear the camera has no flash , is that true? How is that supposed to be an upgrade!? Anything else I should know that's different between the two, aside from the obvious?

The only apps that I have opened that possibly check the internet are facebook & my weather network app. I have the weather app set to check every hour. So how could it drop so fast? Aug 13, 2010my 8530 will suddenly, and for no apparent reason, decide to restart itself. I haven't noticed a pattern as to when it does this, and it doesn't seem to be a regular interval. I'll have it sitting next to me on the table, and suddenly it lights up, shuts down, and starts back up, and carries on as if nothing happened.
