BB Bold 9650 :: Application To Make Calls Over Wi-Fi?
May 17, 2010
I just ordered a 9650 with wi-fi to replace my Tour. I'll be traveling out of the country and was wondering if there is a Skype-like application that would allow me to make calls when I have access to a hot-spot using the 9650's wi-fi? I know that Skype has an application for Verizon, but I'm on Sprint.

I tried to make a call while wi-fi was on and connected, it wouldn't go through. likewise, when someone tried to call me when wi-fi was on, they went straight to voicemail. i tested it when i got home and same thing...wi-fi on, no voice. wi-fi off, voice calls work just fine.the only think i can think of is that i have skype installed but not logged in yet, so maybe it's trying to make calls that way? i'm going to be kinda bummed if i have to turn off wi-fi to use the phone.

I just upgraded from a 8330 to the 9650. One of my favorite features of the 8330 was the "important calls" exception to the current profile. This was very useful because I work night shift and sleep during the day. I would set my phone to Quite and have my wife and parents listed under important calls because they knew not to call during the day unless it was an emergency.
Well I went to set this up in my new device and was shocked to see that it isn't there. Did RIM move the option somewhere else or is this very useful feature a thing of the past?
Also I don't just want to set a custom ringtone for them that will always override the current profile because sometimes I need my phone to be totally silent (i.e. in meetings). On the 8330 there was a check box that I could turn the exception on and off with.

I have a Verizon Bold 9650. I have numerous issues, but the biggest one is on a call my voice sounds muffled to the person I am speaking to. I have called my work voice mail and it is poor quality and muffled in an area with 3G and 4 or 5 bars. I have wiped the device - no improvement. I have set Automatic Volume Control to Enabled - also no luck.
I have even replced the phone and have the exact problem again. I have owned blackberrys before and I could always count on crystal clear call quality on both ends, but not now. VERY DISAPPOINTING when BB is behind other smartpones in everyway except email and now the call quality is horrible.
If not the Bold goes back and BB will be "dead to me"

I use the Phone Calls Only profile when I go to bed (I figure if it's important someone will call me, I don't want texts, facebook and emails waking me up).I used this profile on the Tour and it worked great.Just tried it last night on the bold and BBMs and emails were not silent, however, my sound settings are all identical to what they were on my tour. My understanding is the profile Phone Calls Only overrides any settings you have, and only makes noise if the phone rings. This was not the case.Is my phone defective, is do I need to do something else to set this up on my Bold?

how to make the "application storage" bigger? So that I can have more apps in my bold? Is there a way? I'm thinking of getting a new SD card thinking that it might help boost the App storage.

Running OS v.5.0.0.1006 (bundle1644, Platform 4.2.0.437). Sometime today the sound notifications stop working on my phone. Vibration still works and I can hear MP3 songs via the handset speaker only {not speakerphone}. I have tried a hard reset by removing the battery and by pressing Alt-uparrow-Del. I checked for available software updates and it stated there are none available. Any ways to restore the sound for my notifications?

How can I get a folder that puts all my calls in one place other then in the messages area? I upgraded from the 8330 and on there it had it's own special folder for call logging. Now on the bold it's combined in the msgs folder along with my emails.

I just upgraded to a BB Bold 9650 and have synced with Outlook. I input all of my phone numbers in Outlook in the following format: (XXX) XXX-XXXX, but when I receive an incoming phone call on the home screen the numbers appear as XXXXXXXXXX (name is correct). When I look on the call log, they appear correctly and when I check my address book in the device, they appear correctly.I only sync one way - from Outlook to the Device. How do I get them to appear in the correct 10 digit phone number format with parentheses and hyphen?I had another Bold before this and had no issues with this at all. I am wondering if I need to use the Backup and Restore feature in the DTM to delete the address book completely and start again.

I recently bought a blackberry bold 9700 off my friend who was using it pay as you go. When I inserted sim all looked good, network appeared and internet worked, as well as BB messenger. However I then realised that it could not make/receive calls or send/receive txt messages. I then ran a diagnostics test and it showed:
{
Radio Data Activation: No
Signal Level : Unknown
Radio Access: Unknown
Network: Unknown

The wierdest things had happen to my blackberry. Before I go on, it involved 2 simcard.
Simcard A : simcard with BBM and full data service is registered to (Indonesian network)
Simcard B : without BBM registration, etc. (Indonesian network)
This is how it started. I have brought my phone from Indonesia to China. As I tried to use my BBM, it wont work. I tried switching on WIFI but all I got is the dull grey wifi icon. I tried so many setting but it would not work. Remember, I am using simcard A.Now, I pull out simcard A and put simcard B on. I dont know what happen, I start receiving BBM messages. I was so afraid of getting charge for data roaming, I quickly switch connection prefference to 'wifi only' with my WIFI connection on. At the home screen, next to the small antenna icon, it says 'OFF' so i assumed mobile signal is OFF. To my supprise, my BBM is still receiving messages and I can reply them no problem. Again I assumed it was connected through WIFI. What is so weird is, while i was chatting away with WIFI ON (still dull grey icon) and mobile signal OFF, I suddenly receive a phone call.
Can anyone tell me what is going on with my Blackberry? Am I being charge for data roaming while I was chatting away or I was just receiving and sending data through WIFI? but why the calls came in with mobile signal OFF?

I was using IPhone and recently shifted to BB and bought 9900 just 20 days ago. Now the phone started giving me problems the 3rd day of my purchase. After few calls the phone stops receiving calls. What happens is that when a call is made the person receives the call but I am not able to his voice nor does the receiver hears mine however the call dialing status is shown on the screen. I can see that the call is being made but can't hear the ring...the call gets connected and I am charged for that by the service provider. Now when someone calls me the phone does not rings but I can see that I am receiving a call and when I pick up the phone I cannot hear the other person nor does the caller hears me.It works only when I switch off the phone...take the SIM out and again restart the phone but again after few calls the same thing repeats.I went to BB service outlet and got the phone exchanged the new phone also started giving me exactly the same problem.

I have a blackberry bold 9700 with TMobile that cannot make or receive calls as of yesterday. Texts and email work fine and I have done a battery pull about five times. When I try to make a call, there is this constant clicking, almost like a pulse sounds that comes through the phone. I tried to call my wife's phone and her phone rings with my number but no voice goes through. Same problem when I receive a call, the pulse thing happens and it goes to voice mail...which I of course can't check. I have had this phone for almost two years and this has never happened before. This just started happening yesterday with no changes to the phone (OS update, new app, etc.).

I have (accidentally) rec'd calls at 30,000 ft on a delta plane with my network option on wifi only and having logged on to Deltas onboard wifi. This led me to believe that it is possible to make and recieve calls anywhere in the world as long as I am in a hot spot.
I have contacted my carrier, T-mobile, and have rec'd mixed signals from them. I am about to depart for spain and was thinking as long as I set my phone to wifi only, I should be able to make, recieve calls and data without incurring any roaming charges since it is all data or VoIP via the web.
