View 10 Repliesi was browsing the forums looking for a answer on this, i see alot of answers on this subject for T mobile.
Is there a way i can use the data plan from pay go (prepaid) on my unlocked iphone? I saw for t mobile you need to change the VPN and some other things.
Pre-req - an unlocked iPhone
1. Buy the cheapest AT&T Go Phone package from any electrical store, I bought a Nokia 2320 from Best Buy for USD30.
DO NOT PUT THE SIM CARD IN THE DEVICE IT CAME WITH
2. Go to att.com/gophone and choose "Activate"
3. Enter the SIM number, any IMEI that isn't your iPhone IMEI, name and email address, plus a ZIP code, and AT&T will activate the SIM and assign it a number
4. Call the AT&T top up line, press 0 to go through to an operator. Give them your newly assigned US phone number (from step 3) and ask for the USD19.99 100MB data package feature.
5. They will take your non-US debit/credit card, and bill you USD19.99.
6. Now you can put your SIM card in your iPhone. Reboot it.
7. Now you should have AT&T as your carrier. Using wifi, visit www.unlockit.co.nz and download and activate the US AT&T APN profile.
8. Reboot again, and you should have 3G data service on your iPhone.
(I found a lot of conflicting info on this, but I've just done this and it worked first time!)
I can't get it to work. Has anyone gotten the Nexus One to work on T-Mobile's Sidekick prepaid data plan ($1/day)?Obviously, it requires a proxy. But even with a working proxy, I cannot get a web browser, email, or anything to work on the Nexus One using hiptop.t-mobile.com.It works fine on a Nokia N900. But will it work with the Nexus One?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I are moving to Dublin in a little less than a month so that my wife can earn a Masters from Trinity College. We will live there for 12 to 13 months. We've been AT&T users for five years and upgraded to iPhones last summer. As you might expect, we've become pretty attached to our phones and would like to use the Wi-Fi feature overseas (as well as Skype for international calls, of course). However, we do not want to stay with AT&T the next 12 months (prolonged international AT&T usage = bad idea), and therefore plan on getting some cheap phones in Dublin from a local provider so that my wife and I can communicate when we're apart.
This is where you come in. What can we do to cut ties with AT&T but continue Wi-Fi usage of our iPhones? I did some research this morning and read several accounts of individuals canceling AT&T service, removing the SIM card and using their iPhone like an iTouch without issue. However, other accounts mentioned that AT&T can disconnect Wi-Fi when customers cancel service--not sure how that's possible, but there you have it.On another note, do you know of a way to suspend AT&T service for one year so that we don't need to pay monthly bills but also don't need to pay the account cancellation fee? Probably a long shot, but it would be the most convenient option.I thought I would ask around here before making the call to AT&T and showing some CSR all of my cards. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
I have heard that there are possibility's for using a prepaid sim in an iPhone. Can I get instructions on how to do this? Does it matter what gen of iPhone I am using? Please help.
View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of a way to use a 2G iPhone prepaid.
all i really care about is talk, text, i/m and mms.
Here are the specs for my phone:
iPhone Model: 3g (US)
Network: O2 Wireless
Carrier: AT&T 5.5
Modem Firmware: 5.11.07
OS: 3.1.2 (7d11), currently unlocked & jailbroken with blacksn0w
Here is my desired outcome:
Use O2 prepaid SIM with the new OS 4.0, get the push alerts for my apps. I don't really care if I can jailbreak it or not, I don't have any use for the rock or cydia, so this is secondary.
Here is what I do know:
O2 wireless (prepaid, US), runs over network, was told by O2 wireless CSR that any unlocked phone may use the O2 SIM. When I was a subscriber on the network I received all my push alerts, now I only receive my email push alerts and they are sometimes delayed.
My question:
Since O2 wireless runs over the network, do I still need to have my iPhone 3g unlocked? Or do I need to unlock it again? Will I loose my unlock (with the 3.0 upgrade my unlock remained) once I update to 4.0? Will I now receive app push alerts?
What is the best U.S. prepaid carrier i can use for an iPhone 3G? I currently can't use my plan so i have to use prepaid for a few months at the max. I don't need data. (although data would be nice )
View 24 Replies View RelatedAny thoughts on whether its worth the extra money to buy the 3G versus 2G when I am only using it for the phone and apps? There difference is about $200 for an unlocked 2G versus $330 for a 3G. I also have several apps programs that I used on my ipod touch that I will use on the iphone.
I bought a locked 3Gs but am a TMO user. Until the next hack comes out, using it as an iTouch. If I were to buy a prepaid AT&T sim card, would it work for just voice in the locked 3Gs? Simple calls in/out, no data requirements, text, MMS, etc.
I visited AT&T store, they said Apple/AT&T lock out their own AT&T prepaid accounts?
i just ask as question about iphone 4 of verizon and there ll coming with prepaid in the future or unknown yet as information? If, they re plan do in the future for iphone 4 verizon or not? i just want to know that all.

I have a "Simple Mobile" sim card - prepaid with 3G- Its main carrier is actually T Mobile and Simple mobile works with T mobile network. I wanna get an iphone 4S and use it with the simple mobile sim. I have unlimite tet talka and 3G data for 40 $ with simple mobile. Can I use an apple store iphone with my simple mobile sim. Should I look for a factory unlocked iPhone ? Is it possible to get one in the US?
Can I get 3G speed using the simple mobile sim on iPhone? IF not , why- any bandwith difference created by unlocking the iPhone? what is the difference between at&t / verizon 3Gdata vs any prepaid data like t mobile or simple mobile data?

I just got my iPhone 4 and and was setting it up. It's asking me to verify my my credit card info. My credit card expired and I didn't want to renew it so now I don't have a credit card. Is there anyway to get my iTunes account activated again? Would a prepaid credit card work? I googled it but got mix responses, and after being on hold with apple for 40 knobs my phone died earlier. Anyways, I made a new account that works, but now I can't dl all the apps I already paid for on my original account.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a prepaid phone from ATT and they said that the way that Apple sends data doesn't support the prepaid service. I was just wondering why they did that? If it was intentional?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new Verizon phone and have stopped using ATT. As a result, I still have my old ATT cell phone. I was wondering if its possible to just buy a SIM card with a few hundred minutes on it and then use the phone whenever I needed an extra phone. I don't want to have to pay per day or every use type of thing, I just want a phone that can call out, dont even really need it to call to.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Xperia Play phone, but i dont want to pay the REDICULOUS bill verizon wants to charge me. Is there any way i could set this phone up to be used with prepaid plans? I know Straight Talk uses verizons towers and has an android phone. View 1 Replies View RelatedAT&T and iPhone data use charges - WiFi and cellular link options Many people have complained about unusual data usage charges on their AT&T iPhone bills -- often 10s of megabytes in one transaction, posted in the middle of the night. Here are a couple of updates based on the AT&T support portal: WiFi vs cellular link: Connecting to a local WiFi hotspot and turning off your cellular data connection will block cellular data transmission and related charges. (Except for SMS messages, which are very small.) There are some gotchas, however: (a) If your iPhone goes 'to sleep' (the screen goes black), it will revert to the cellular data link, unless it is plugged into a charger. (b) Even if your iPhone is plugged into a charger, it will revert to a cellular data connection if the WiFi link drops, e.g. due to a momentary glitch with your internet provider or electric power supply, so.... (c) The only way to completely ensure that your iPhone will not revert to a cellular data connection is to turn it completely off. You (obviously) will not be able to receive calls, however.
Large data transactions in the middle of the night: Unusually large 'chunks' of data that are apparently sent around midnight are a related issue. You may think that you could avoid these mystery charges by making sure you have a WiFi connection running at night. A number of 'czars' on AT&T's site stated, however, that this is are simply an artifact of AT&T's billing system, which "aggregates" transactions that occur throughout the day into one summary charge, which is posted in the middle of the night. If this is accurate, the data connection(s) you use throughout the day will determine how large this 'summary' transaction will be.
Note: Our bill does not appear to square with AT&T's explanation. For example:
39 04/06/2012 09:36PM phone Data Transfer 7 KB 0.0040 04/06/2012 10:35PM phone Data Transfer 7 KB 0.0041 04/06/2012 10:41PM phone Data Transfer 369,759 KB 30.00
If all of the data from 6 April was 'rolled up' into the massive 369.8 megabyte transaction at 10:41pm, why are there two small transactions at 9:36pm and 10:35? We installed Onavo to try to get to the bottom of this;; I will post the results at the end of the current billing cycle.

I checked out my data usage on the att website and it turns out surprisingly that i consistently use under 200mb a month.
1. I beejive im every work day for at least 2 hours on edge(don't tell my boss) but it suprisingly only comes out to only about 4mbs per day (if i used 3g would the data consumption be higher?)
2. I maybe use slingplayer 1 day a month on 3g (sad) about 10mbs i think
3. I grab email manually by opening up the mail app maybe twice a day max.
Do you think i should switch asap? or is it best recommended to view iphone 4 data usage first in case i upload 720p video (which i doubt they will let you do)
I bought an iPhone 3GS off a guy on craigslist and it works great, no complaints. But every few minutes or so I get the alert saying that I "Cannot activate cellular data network - You are not subscribed to a cellular data service", and it's really annoying because it lights up my iPhone all the time and kills my battery. It's also really annoying - it comes up whenever I'm typing a message or playing a game; literally when I do ANYTHING on my phone. I do not have a data plan, but I have used 'unlockit.co.nz' to install a Fake APN to my iPhone to block data. Rogers has also given me a data block. This has been going on ever since I bought the phone, I thought installing a Fake APN would stop it but I guess not. I can't really restore since I have a lot of stuff on this iPhone already.. but if that's the only option then I will be forced to. I used to have an unlocked Fido 3G (about 2 months ago) without data and it never gave me this alert, do you think it has something to do with my 3GS being locked to Rogers?
This phone is a jailbroken iPhone 3GS (model MC143C) running version 3.1.3 (7E18) and locked to the "Rogers 5.0" network. If it helps the modem firmware is 05.12.01.if there are no real solutions, I still have 2 months left on my warranty. Would Apple fix it or give me a new one if I un-jailbreak it?
Still struggling to get to grips with my new iPhone 4S....Reading the User Guide it says "to turn Cellular Data off go to Settings/General/Network then turn Cellular Data off".The only problem with my phone is that "Cellular Data" does not appear in the Network screen. However "Mobile Data" does.is it the the same thing? For cost reasons I would like to be in control of when I use the internet and already I have inadvertantly incurred charges without being aware that I had gone on to the internet. Will selecting "Mobile Data" to "OFF" solve my problem.

Does retrieving music and data from iCloud use up the data plan usage? And is there an adapter that will allow me to charge the iPhone with the standard charging cord for Blackberry and Android?
