I have decided to upgrade my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5. With my iPhone connected to iTunes, when I click "Check for Update" I get a message that says, "This version of the iPhone software (4.2.1) is the current version." How do I get it to upgrade me to iOS 5?

I followed the unlocked instruction from AT&T to restore my 3GS iPhone from factory settings. After completing restoring, follow the steps to set up the phone and stuck at activation screen. I inserted AT&T SIM card and connected to iTune but still failed to activate with following error message on iTune: "There is no SIM card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate. Please disconnect and insert a SIM card in the iPhone." I have retry several times (including disconnect and reinsert the sim) but no luck.

i have a customer who has a iphone and needs to update to ios 5.1 for a corporate app to work. he does not have personnal machine at home to install itunes on, and the company will not allow itunes to be installed on any of their systems (you cant even run the installer as its blocked).i have my own machine that i connect to their guest wifi but when i try to download the ios 5.1 update, it says 36 hours remaining (i think they are blocking the traffic).is there a way to download the firmware while i have my machine at home and then install when i am back with the user (i only see the user for about 1 hour a week)

i am stuck in a tricky situation and would things first i know this is quite a frequently asked question as i have done a bit of searching on the net about it however could not not find anything that totaly matches myproblem, i have recently purchased a brand new laptop which runs windows 7 compared to my old desktop which ran XP, i have tried syncing all of my iphone 4s contents onto my new laptop's itunes library including everything not just music or videos and i got the infamous pop up "The iphone is synced with another Itunes library. Do you want to erase this iphone and sync with this Itunes library" the problem is that my original itunes library does not exist no more as my desktop was completly wiped and had XP redownloaded onto it again because it had a virus, which also wiped all of my hard drive so i cant even get everything i backed up off of my phone from it, i have managed to sign in to the itunes store and allowed my laptop to work with itunes,i have also transferred my purchases from my phone to my new itunes library but this only includes my apps and obviously not my contacts and photos and everything, i still get the pop up if i go to sync my apps from my library anyway, is there any way i can delete my original itunes library without it even existing anymore so that i can just start afresh and sync everything i have on my phone now directly to my new itunes library? or do i need to purchase this iphone rip/backup/store software that everyone goes on about or something? to be honest its really annoying my now as i just want to be able to sync everything like how i used to,

I recently updated iTunes. The update went smoothly, but immediately after the update iTunes no longer shows my iPhone4. The diagnostics show that everything is okay with exception of the no iPhone connected error. I've run through all of the Apple helps but nothing has fixed the problem. The same problem occurs on other user profiles on the same computer. The computer is a 64-bit Windows 7 machine. Windows 7 shows the iPhone and I can access it as a camera or drive. I've re-installed the phone USB driver but still no go. I can plug my phone into another computer and the sync works fine.

I have tried syncing my phone to my computer before but it deleted any song and playlist that wasn't in the iTunes on my computer. I sometimes will buy a song on my phone and I don't want to have to look up every song I have bought on my phone to go through and download it on my computer. I downloaded some of my old CD's to itunes and I've noticed that the songs are not downloading to my iphone, even when I go to my phone and music and check the box. I've sync'd like 5 times and nothing.
I've also noticed that some of my CD's that I've downloaded are listed under my other music but its not available to checkmark the box under my music.
I have no idea what's going on. Is is a PC issue? Is it an itunes issue?

This new password seems to only last that once in the app store before again it tells me its the wrong password. This has happend tens or times. After spending the multiple hours required to simply restore my iPhone from a backup, I ejected the phone from iTunes and unlocked the phone with the slider, at which time I was asked whether I would like to set up the iPhone as a new phone or restore it from a backup (cloud or computer-located). I found it odd that I would be asked this question following completion of a restoration from a backup, but I went ahead and told the iPhone I would like it to do what it had already just done, at which time the display told me "connect to iTunes". After connecting to iTunes, my music, app configuration and preferences were visible in iTunes, and I could play music directly from the iPhone. I could also make changes and sync them to the iPhone.
However, the iPhone itself displayed the "connect to iTunes" message throughout, and when I ejected the phone from iTunes this remained. Turning on and off the phone produced no different result. I've started the restore again from scratch now, this time going to the phone and running through the wifi/restore choice options before choosing "restore from backup" in iTunes itself (this is not something that is indicated as required by iTunes or the iPhone at this stage). So I've got a couple hours to burn before I find out if that was the magic combination.Also, open letter to Apple: I don't mean to be unkind, but every single experience I've had trying to back up or restore my iPhone has been an exercise in frustration resulting from the process simply not working as it is described and as it should work. Get your house in order.

We both just got the iPhone4S so when we backed up my old iPhone into our Mac and then restored it onto my new one I still got all my husbands contacts,etc? I want to be able to get back my ringtones and the music I had originally downloaded on my old phone and put them on my new one but I don't know how to do this? Also, when I try to download a song from iTunes on my new phone it still comes up asking for my husbands apple information when I've set up my own iTunes/Apple accounts?
