Galaxy S6 :: Contacts App - Limit Number Of Characters Allowed For Notes Field
May 28, 2015
The S6 is my second Android phone. First was an LG G2. I'm noticing my Exchange contact notes are truncated on the S6. Seems to display first 1000 characters only. My G2 did not exhibit this limitation.
I did some searching around on this subject and it seems to be a common Samsung complaint.
My workaround so far has been to use the Outlook app when I need all notes for a given contact. This workaround is somewhat inconvenient and I'd like to find a better way to natively manage Contacts.
My Galaxy S5 synchronises with my Outlook contacts (via Microsoft Exchange). On the Galaxy, the notes field in Contacts seems to have a size limitation, and will only show ~1,000 characters, truncating any information beyond that and preventing me from editing or adding information via the handset. This is annoying as many of my contact records contain far more than 1,000 characters of information in the notes field. Any way of removing the size limitation? Alternatively is there some 3rd party application that synchronises seamlessly with Outlook contacts via Microsoft Exchange?
I'm eligible to upgrade my HTC EVO LTE and have been thinking of moving to the Samsung S5, but any size limit on notes in the Contacts app is a deal-killer. Samsung started truncating the notes field in the S3 and did the same with the S4. The limit is around 980 characters; see this discussion about the S4 for details: the notes section in a contact is limited in the s4 - xda-developers.
Be sure to try editing larger notes since it might seem like you can import large notes with a contact, but they get truncated as soon as you try to edit them in-app. I'm really hoping that Samsung fixed this in the S5 since it's a serious limitation if you keep detailed notes with your contacts, or import from something like Outlook.
Yesterday I upgraded my Bold 9000 to Bold 9900. The transition went smooth, with one exception - the Notes field size in Contacts is much smaller than in Bold 9000 and the text in that field got truncated.. I keep customer service logs in that field and the major reason for upgrading was the possibility of fast scrolling to the end of the Notes field to add new records. Now this purpose is irrelevant since the data entered in this field in Bold 9000 doesn't even fit in it in Bold 9900. If I don't find a workaround, I will have to revert to my Bold 9000 and return the new device.
I am considering purchasing a BB Tour 9630.I use the Notes field of MS Outlook contacts extensively. Some of my notes per contact are over 10,000 characters in length. My Palm Treo 700p allows me to view/edit these long notes. Can the notes field of the BB contact manager handle this many characters or will it be truncated to a shorter length? I am a small operation not using an Exchange Server. Also, do I need any other device software than what comes with the BB to sync with my PC's local Outlook PST?

After syncing my Outlook calendar to the phone, I noticed all my "Subject" data had been cut off at 15 characters on the phone. It even limits me to 15 characters when typing in a new "Event". Any way to change this or am I limited to 15 characters?
When I synchronise my Desktop with my devise I am loosing Outlook notes because the notes field in my Torch is limited. So if I have extended my notes in outlook and then synchronize at the end of the day, I loose part of the notes I have written because the notes field in the torch wont accept them. Can the notes field in the Torch be extended?
I have spent hours on the phone with CompanionLink (arguably the best software for synchronizing Outlook to Android) -- regarding a problem with the "Notes" field being truncatred in the native Gingerbread Contact application. It has been determined that long "Notes" entries in the Gingerbread version are truncated -- where they were NOT in Froyo. We have determined that the notes data is actually there and visible if one long-presses the contact -- and selects "Edit". However, the entire notes text is not viewable when using the native Contact application normally. There happens to be an "More" type icon on the right side of the notes section (about half-way down) that looks like it would expand the section -- however, in my version of Gingerbread on DroidX -- it does not work or do anything other then turning the screen blue when it is depressed.
Earlier today I was able to unlock the screen but the passcode screen was shrunk to the bottom left corner and I was left unable to enter the numbers for the passcode.
Since my phone (Curve 9360) was updated to 7.1 Bundle 1133 last week, I can no longer send SMS messages as the numbers are changed to characters. For example, if I try to send an SMS to 63555 it converts it to FRDDD when entered, then when the SMS is sent, it displays (in red) Unidentified subscriber. Is this a problem with the software? I cannot find any setting to disable the search that changes the number to the characters.
I know the iPhone battery isn't that great and most people on here charge over night. I charge over night, at work, later when I get home, then again at night ( prob down to 60%). should I limit the number of charges to save the long term life of the battery or can the battery take it?
Currently there is a maximum of 20 sets allowed to be set for an interval workout.increase this to something higher? 50, 100, infinite? I use the Galloway walk/run method and 20 sets doesn't get me very far when doing short walk/run intervals. I want to use this for a half marathon.
Is there a limit to the number of email addresses I can have on my Blackberry Bold 9650? I have 10 and would like to add another but it will not allow me. Is 10 the maximum or am I doing something wrong.I am going to Set Up / Email Account / Set up or manage an existing email account / Set Up another email account / Creat New Address / User Name / Password and it gives me an error on the user name.I have tried numerous times and checked on the web that my user name and password are O.K. to no avail.
I am running a Curve 8530 on Virgin Mobile USA. Is there any way I can limit the number of SMS text messages stored on the device to free up more memory to automatically delete messages over a certain number, or do I just have to go through and delete each chat manually?
I am a long time user of Google Calendar, and have recently run into problems syncing it to my devices. I recently added two new calendars (bringing my total up to ten), but neither will show up on either my iPhone or iPad. I have tried unsyncing, and resyncing my calendar data, to no effect. Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of calendars that can be synced?
I want to limit the amount of emails that are downloaded to my mail app. I can only find instruction for doing this in ios7. I am using ios8. I don't have a “Mail Days to Sync” option.
People calling me have sometimes complained that if I am not available to take the call, they have to wait for many rings - and hence a long time - before the messaging system kicks in. And sometimes, callers give up, assuming I don't have voicemail. I know you can limit the number of rings on other phones, but I haven't find out how to do it with my iPhone. I'm sure it's easy though!!
Can I limit the number of emails downloaded when I manually fetch mail on an iphone 5s. On my previous iphone ( a 3gs) I thought only 50 inbox items at a time were visible. Right now I'm showing several thousand.(I should be better with my mailbox)
I have been using WhatsApp a lot more than usual lately and there's something that's bothering me. While the screen is off, there's a notification for each message received. So, in case I have someone messaging me 20 times in a row, I will hear the notification tone 20 times. I know some apps limit the number of notifications by time and I'd like to do this with WhatsApp.
Is there some way to do this? To make it clear, I'd like to be able to set an option like "Only ring once for whatever number of messages every 30 seconds".
is is possible to limit the contacts display to the contacts stored in the phone only? If i have contacts on my SIM cards and in the phone the contact display lists all of them. I couldn't find an option to limit the display to the phone storage only. So i see duplicates. This is anoying. Even my 6 year old 3110 classic can do this! Nokia - where have you hidden this option?
I have the Torch 9810 and am trying to figure out how to limit the number of icons displaying on my home screen. I use to have an bold 9700 and you could limit it to 1,2,3 or 4 rows of icons. how to limit the number of rows displayed on the screen?
I wonder if there is a way to increase the number of characters in a text message. I'm sick of the words "field full" when I just want to finish a bloody sentence!
I just discovered that the Photon doesn't allow adding local (phone) contacts??? The documentation even says an e-mail account has to be set up before you can add a contact to the phone..
So, every contact I've added as been added as a gmail contact. Somehow I have some local contacts on my phone, I think they came over from my Epic.
The problem with this (other than the obvious requirement to have an e-mail account to put someone's phone number my phone!) is that some applications that synch only look at local contacts. For example, I was trying to figure out why another QIK user that is in my address book wouldn't synch and get the QIK user information, yet some of my others did. I found out that all of the ones that did, are local contacts (that were added back on my Epic and moved to this phone). Any contact added via this phone (thus as a Google contact) won't synch with QIK.
Sure, Moto could point fingers at QIK, but this seems like it could happen with others, as they would certainly expect local contacts to be there.
