Galaxy S5 :: Not Accepting Encryption Passcode After Lollipop Update
May 6, 2015
I upgraded to Lolipop about a week ago. Everything was good.
Today however, I changed my device unlock passcode from PIN (6-digits) to a full password (6-characters). I restarted my device shortly after, as I knew the phone was encrypted and wanted to ensure the encryption password was updated accordingly. Now it's not taking the new 6-letter password, nor my old 6-digit PIN on the unencrypt screen. I'm down to 8 attempts left before it will factory reset. (update: ended up having to factory reset...)
I can assure you that I remember the 6-letter password I entered as my new one, since I restarted right after I changed it, and it's the same one I use for many things.
I run and support our MDM platform for our company and have had 3 users report the same problem. I was skeptical at first, thinking these people simply forgot their passcode, but now I am in the exact same boat as them.
I've been told by a few users that once the Lollipop update was released on Rogers for the Galaxy S5, they have been prompted to de-encrypt their devices.if there is any way to circumvent this 'requirement'.
The other I got the popup for the AT&T Lollipop update, and since my G3 is rooted simply dismissed it and submitted a tip to AC. Since then it popped up again yesterday and I had to actually force stop the update service to get rid of it.
Last night I rebooted my phone before going to bed and this morning I woke up to find my phone is updated to 5.0.1. How could this happen? First, how can the OTA happen on a rooted phone, and second, how can it happen completely unattended!
I'm really ticked now. I had no intention of upgrading since my G3 was tweaked to perfection, running as smooth as silk and doing everything I wanted the way I wanted! I thought a rooted phone couldn't even take an OTA. I checked and of course SuperSU says there is no SU binary installed. And yes, I'm positive I was rooted! I don't get it.
I flashed the factory images last night effectively wiping my Nexus 5 and starting from scratch. I did not restore apps and settings either. After I manually installed a bunch of my apps back and changed around a few settings, I decided to enable encryption. However, I don't think it enabled properly.
First, I had not set a PIN lock on my phone yet at the time. When I decided to enable encryption and go through the process, it didn't ask me to enter a PIN. It seemingly completed encrypting the phone. When I go back to the security menu, it says "Encrypted". However, I am not prompted to enter a PIN upon booting the phone (not talking about the lock screen PIN). So, it seems like it didn't work but I'm not sure. I saw the performance degradation that comes with enabling encryption but I'd rather have the security.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6. The phone updated to 5.1.1 and after that the phone prompts to update security settings for email account. Then it will take you to a phone encryption screen and the encryption reboots the phone, but then keeps looping. I do have an exchange account and our company requires to have encryption on the phone. I just installed the Nine Exchange and it is working without any issues, but how can I fix the other way I access email?
My wife has the Lollipop update on her Samsung Galaxy S5 and not without issues. For one the update has completely screwed up her ability to connect to our home WiFi network. But a smaller less trivial problem is that the screenshot function no longer works or has been reconfigured. Any other way to screenshot of the S5 or is this function broken in Lollipop?
I have tried everything even resetting my phone. I have 4.4.2 when I should have the current lollipop version. When I try to update my phone it tells me the update as been interrupted.
Soon, I will install lollipop update on my samsung galaxy s5 smartphone. I know there's lots of comments about the insulation someone well some didn't go well. I'd like to make the installation as smooth as possible. What are your recommendations for moving from Android 4.4. For to lollipop. I had TouchWiz when I got the phone, but I wanted Google now. There's many differences, especially in the apps menu. Will that make a difference in insulation? Are there any other changes I should make before the update?
I have read all the problems with the lollipop update, and have been trying to avoid the update. My phone has now downloaded the update but not installed it. Each time I switch on I get a reminder that the update needs installing which I ignore. I would like to try and find the update and delete it from the phone, but I don't know where it is located or what it is called. I have disabled all the update options so if I can get rid of this file, no more reminders that it needs to be installed.
Is there anyway to get rid of the 5.0 update on the notification bar? I downgraded back to 4.4.4 and this notification stays there. Now my husband has the S5 also but his never notified him that there was even an update but I sure would like to get rid of it on mine
What is the safest....best way to upgrade to Lollipop? Going thru Kies or OTA (with WiFi on). I just received my notice on my S5 from Verizon to update the software.
I would like to update to Marshmallow from lollipop but my charge port is knackered. Doesn't work at all so can't use odin in any way. Can I just flash a new modem in recovery and then flash a marshmallow rom.
I got the Lollipop update last night and my only complaint - thus far - is that *&$^%&% Flipboard has reappeared and I can't delete it,. The icon is on my Apps tray and if I grab it like I'd do with anything else there's no trashcan icon.
after the update was finished all my contacts were gone all the photos for the past year and a half everything on my SD card was completely gone even my sim card didn't have any more contacts on it. It was updating when I went back inside and didn't even pump me for the update or to remove my sd card.
I updated before to OA2 5.0 Lollipop and i experienced the camera failed issue. The screen is just black when launching camera app then it crashes. A simple restart fixes things but it re-occurs once in a while.
I updated last 2 weeks on latest build OD3 and device seemed fine until now. I again experienced camera failure and needs to restart the device everytime.
It seems very random and i dont know what the culprit is. Its getting annoying. +
Tried cache wiping as of today. lets see how long it goes before it happens again
I get a popup saying contracts has stopped working. I also have some video's apps from Swagbucks locking up the phone but that could be the apps. When I frist installed lollipop I guess 2-3 weeks ago a lot of stock apps issues a master restore fix all but the popup for contracts. The pop up appears after I close thee phone. contracts or message app. Clear cache. cache partition and did another master restore. I guess until there a update or the s6 comes out I am stuck with it.
I just updated late night and now the volume rocker on the side only seems to change ringer and media. there is no option for notification. You have to go to the Settings>Sounds to change it. WTH. Is there an easier way? I am always changing it based on where I am.
So I just got the Lollipop update this morning and I setup a pattern lock instead of my fingerprint, was working just fine. I was doing some things around the house with using Google Music All Access to listen to music, went to switch music and I cannot get into my phone, doesn't even register that I'm trying to put in a pattern.
This is not good, can't even get in my phone to call anyone. Nothing is recognizing my touch.
Sprint uploaded lollipop update, camera stopped working. did a factory default hard reset, now it is stuck in a recovery reboot loop. it starts to S5 screen turns off and restarts over and over for five days now?
Camera Error. After updated to lollipop most of the time camera is not working. it says "can't connect to the camera". how to slove this ? everytime i wanted to restart my phone before using the camera.
Occasionally when I attempt to make a phone call from either a contact, missed call, or the keypad the screen will flash like its attempting to call but it just goes straight back to whatever screen I had up. It doesn't even say call ended or call lost. Sometimes I have to click call 3-4 times before it goes through.I just cleared my cache and will see if it continues?
I recently updating my Galaxy S5 to Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and since then have being having problems with the phone overheating and draining the battery. I fully charged the battery and within 2 1/2 hours the phone went from 100% battery life to 8% without me using it. The phone itself also became very hot to touch, both front and back.
Since I've updated my S5 a month ago (now Android version 5.0) it keeps restarting unexpectantly. At first I thought these restarts were random but 'I've noticed it happens only when my connection to my network provider is lost (f.i. if I step into an elevator). When my network connection is good I've not noticed any problems.
Prior to updating to Lollipop I was able to easily adjust notification volume by simply touching the volume control on side of phone, then selecting the cog next to ringtone volume. That disappeared with Lollipop update. Is there any way to adjust notification volume other than going all the way to settings?
