What is the safest....best way to upgrade to Lollipop? Going thru Kies or OTA (with WiFi on). I just received my notice on my S5 from Verizon to update the software.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G901F (Unlocked) and yesterday I updated the OS to Lolipop using Odin.
Since that update I have signal issues (No service most of the time) and I want to downgrade it do KitKat then update it with the official version of Lolipop using Kies. Am I going to be able to do this?
I just tried to backup my phone on my PC using Kies. I excluded all the media files because I have them on my PC anyway, and not all that much spare space. However, then I started to get an error message that my PC was low on disk space.
I checked and my free hard drive space had gone from around 6GB to about 60 megs.
Does anyone know where the Kies backups are stored on my PC, so I can see if the backup was the culprit?
In anticipation of ICS I'm trying to backup my wife's SGSII. I'm using Kies as I don't know if there's any viable alternative. My problem is with backing up the Schedule (calendar?) component. All the other bits seem to backup ok.However, just selecting Schedule (on its own or with other parts) it takes ages 'preparing' and then gets to 98% before hanging and then failing due to some unexpected error.I'm on the latest version of Kies, and Windows 7 64bit (tried on two computers, both W7 64).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm consistently getting an error when trying to backup my call log in Kies (2.3.2.12054_20). I can backup everything else but the call log. I get this on 2 computers I have.
This is the error I get:
Data backup cannot proceed because of an unexpected error. Please connect the device and try backing up again.
Is "Root" required for the call log to be backed up? If so, how is this done on the S II?
is upgrading firmware via kies considered 'rooting' my device and removing warranty?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to upgrade to Android 4 (ICS) using Kies Air. I can connect my S2 to my PC using WiFi but I cannot see any link nto upgrade. When I try using KIES and USB to link to PC no connection is ever made.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have tried numerous times over the last couple of days to upgrade my SGS2 to ICS. After I realised connecting to Kies Air wouldn't work, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Kies onto my laptop. The first time I tried to download via USB, the phone connected to Kies but said I could not upgrade unless my battery was fully charged. Odd, as it would be charging while linked to my laptop during upgrading anyway, but I thought I would try again in the morning when my phone was fully charged from overnight charging.
So I tried this morning when charged to 100%, and later this evening when half charged, and Kies refuses to recognise my phone. It keeps saying connecting, connecting, then I get a message saying it cannot connect. I have disconnected and reconnected umpteen times to no avail. I have run the troubleshooter a few times and reinstalled the Kies drivers two or three times. Again, to no avail.I have seen various threads on here about USB debugging etc. and I have tried to tick then re-untick that, but no joy there.I'm starting to think it would be easier just to do without this bloody update and just wait for the SGS3 to come out.
I was recently trying to root my galaxy s5 (At&T, G900A) on android lollipop and so first I wanted to downgrade to kitkat for root and decided to do so with odin. I followed some instructions online and when I tried to follow the instructions it kept failing in Odin; so I've decided not to go through with the root and wanted to get back to stock lollipop, but when I restart the phone I get the error message "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." But when I plug my s5 in and open kies it always gives me the message "this device isn't supported by kies" and I have the newest version (Kies 3).
View 1 Replies View RelatedKies (2.3.2.12064_9) stated that a firmware upgrade was available so I started the process. The files were downloaded and the connection to the phone established. All seemed to be going to plan. Then the phone dropped out of Kies and is trying to reconnect. The computer flashed up a message that the device was not recognised. The phone is still attached to the USB and has the android icon with downloading...do not turn off t Is the phone already disconnected..?What should I do to recover? Can I recover?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI?ve been through every avenue possible but Kies still does not recognise my Galaxy S II when I try to upgrade the software.Checking the device manager in Win7 shows Galaxy usb device installed and functioning normally.Kies just runs and runs and in the end shows message device not found? Another problem is that during this installation process the firmware upgrade has encountered an issue and no longer reset back to the previous installation.I therefore only have two options on my mobile presently, the other one beeing the Odin mode showing the Android icon and ?Downloading? i.e. ready to receive the data.I have the latest .net Framework installed as well as the latest Kies software.Any other way to make the connection between Odin and my phone?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy S5 did the lollipop upgrade just over a week ago and there have been nothing but issues since. I did a full factory reset and the phone worked fine for 3 days than I powered it down as I was at a bridge game and when I turned it back on it was worse than ever. Did another factory reset and now it won't load any apps at all. It will sometimes read my SD card and at other times it won't. Short of replacing the phone, what is going on with this update and how did it take a phone I loved and turn it into a useless hunk of electronic junk.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Verizon galaxy S5. No problems, perfect phone. I upgraded to lollipop when it came out, and I love it! But, I reverted to KitKat for a day and a half a few days ago, and now a problem has arisen. I can receive SMS and MMS, can make calls, and can use mobile data. BUT! I can't send SMS or MMS messages (for ANY number). It just loads for a while and says sending failed. I flashed back to KitKat, and now it works fine!!! I tried again to update to Lollipop three different ways: Odin, over-the-air, and through Kies, and all three methods are causing this error. Why is this happening, and can I fix it? Every time I downgrade to KitKat it works just fine. I like lollipop and need texting for my daily life! I also got an error (one time) where I couldn't turn on my WiFi antenna. I have tried every possible method of data reset, initialization, battery/sim pull, and every kind of cache wipe possible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm super confused regarding the new way sounds, vibration, muting, and notifications are handled in Lollipop.
For instance, I just found out that to get LED notifications, I have to have vibration or sound turned on. No LED notifications on mute/silent? Are they serious? There seems to be no way to get a notification now without having my phone vibrating or making noise on my desk at work, which means I'm either annoying my coworkers or not getting notifications. It seemed that if I want to disable vibration and still get LED alerts, I need to go into every app and disable it there, which is totally counterintuitive—I used to be able to control this by pressing the volume button on the side of the phone.
Not only that, but I currently have vibration turned on so that I can get LED alerts, and I unchecked vibration in Hangouts for both Hangouts messages and SMS messages, and it's still vibrating. Is there any way at all to get LED notifications without vibration?
Not sure how to go about fixing this, but ALL the apps I had "moved to SD Card" are now toast.
App manager lists the entries as filenames, the icons are semitransparent generic android icons, it tries but fails to load the apps and google play says its not installed.
The data is all on the SD card so i'd like them all back, it seems the OS (when it updated) simply forgot them when it optimized my apps for lollipop.
I HAVE to move apps to the SD card cuz these phones come with next to no built in storage. What a screwup.
I manually updated google play services and restarted the phone four times. I had to uninstall a chat app and it took fifteen minutes. After that fourth restart, all my apps appear to have been reinstated.
Listening to iHeart radio/podcasts has become very frustrating ever since lollipop upgrade because it is frequently pausing play on it's own. It happens to me both on cellular and strong Wi-Fi connections. When it happens, I can simply hit play button again to restart playing but it's getting real old real fast having the constant interruptions. I also opened a problem case with iHeart directly.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSince Lollipop update to 5.0 on my S5 Galaxy, whatsapp floating popup keeps showing up when i am using the phone (not unlocked) , no matter if i put on whatsapp config to do not show popup it always appears, it´s kinda annoying since when it is up, u cant hide it, or u click it, or u wait..
Is there any way to get over this? i´ve tried look for some another ways, but no specific way for galaxy S5.
Verizon Samsung S5 with Kit Kat and want to update to the latest Lollipop. The question is about restoring all the apps and data after a factory reset after the upgrade.
1. I have moved a lot of programs to the SD card- do I need to move them back to Device Memory?
2. If I sign in with my Google account after the Factory Reset after the OS upgrade, will all the apps automatically be restored/installed?
3. I have the Google backup set automatically and restore automatically- will the data and settings be restored as the apps are restored once I log into my Google account?
4. What about all my internet email accounts (Comcast, GMail, etc.)- will they automatically be restored for the messages that are on the S5 and automatically connected to the accounts or do I have to reset these up again?
5. The S5 is also my work email, which is an Exchange Server- will the Factory Reset mean that my IT dept. needs to reestablish the connection between the S5 and the Exchange Server or will that happen automatically (if emails are part of the automatic restore?)
6. I have Keis 3 installed on my computer- should I use this as a backup and restore instead of relying on the automatic Google backup and restore?
I no longer see a "card" for my text notifications on my lock screen after the lollipop upgrade on my Galaxy S5.
I get the status "notification bar" (see attached screenshot), but I want the "card" (like the "New voice mail" card in the screenshot) to appear on my lock screen - I don't want to have to tap the "notification bar" for the rest of my notifications. Hopefully I'm just missing a setting, and this is not the expected behavior....
Here's what I've tried (and what my settings are):
1) Lock Screen/Screen Lock is set to swipe.
2) Sounds and Notification/While Locked is set to "Show All Content".
3) Applications/Messages/Notifications/Preview Message is checked.
4) Applications/ApplicationManager/Messages -> Show notifications is checked.
5) I have cleared the cache for Messages Application.
6) I have done a cache partition wipe.
I've read a little bit and it seems that there is a problem with Kies and the Samsung Galaxy. My wife has the Captivate. At best, I am able to connect via USB Mass Storage Mode by manually copying songs or pictures, but I am unable to do so with Windows 7 64bit. I tried with an XP Machine I get the same thing.
Fortunately, the Samsung has OS 2.2 installed. When 2.3 or 3.0 officially comes out, I won't be able to update the firmware.
Has anyone found a reliable solid workaround solution to be able to copy contacts and pics etc to Galaxy? Samsung support is pretty much useless.
I have tried accessing my SII with my Macbook Pro. Using Bluetooth did not work, the Mac said device not supported. I then installed Kies and tried via WIFI. Devices are recognised and they report a connection - then Kies immediately reports a disconnect.I then tried Kies via USB, the connecting symbol spins forever, no connection. Telling the SII to act as memory stick, however works. how I can make Kies talk with my SII?
