BB Curve 8500 :: 8530 Can BB Curve Be Unlocked To Use On A GSM Network?
Jan 28, 2010
Can a Verizon-branded BB Curve 8530 be unlocked to use on a GSM Network such as T-Mobile? I really like the features on this model and want to buy one off of E-bay, but only if I can unlock it and use my current SIM card in it. I'd appreciate any help youse guys (and gals!) can give me.
My husband and I bought Blackberry Curve 8530s last night. We had all our contacts in our blackberrys when we left the store, I was even assigning ring tones to certain people already. I downloaded blackberry for facebook later that night and all my contacts were suddenly gone. I've tried to manually put in contacts, click save, and then no contact shows up. There are no filters checked in the contacts so I know it's not that. Any other ideas?
I am using the Curve 8530 which I started using with Rogers not too long ago. My friend has the same phone and got it the same time but hers has the software v5.0 yet mine still has v4.6. I want to be able to upload the new software but for some reason I am unable to. When I try to update it it tells me I already have the latest version, yet I am the only one of my friends with this phone that does not have this new software.
I got a Black Berry Curve 8530 through Sprint at Best Buy Mobile. I had some battery life issues and they took it and replaced it brand new since I had the Best Buy insurance. On my old phone as soon as they activated it and I brought it home, I went through the setup wizard and everything, and set up my im's and e-mail account.
On the new phone they gave me, I don't know what they did when they switched my activation to this one, but I brought it home, turned it on, did the set up wizard and am quite confused. There are absolutely no pre-loaded apps like the last one. The last phone one that they replaced came with the social networking and IM apps and whatnot, but this phone has nothing. I go into the social networking and other folders, and they are all empty. I tried to go to setup, e-mail setup and all it talks about is setting up an email through the Black Berry enterprise server. There is no option to set up a personal email like Gmail, Yahoo mail or anything of that sort. I also can no longer send anything but text messages. I cant send pic messages or anything.
I have my 8530 set to lock after 5 minutes. Once the five minutes is up, it will lock (allowing me to put in my password). However, when I press and hold the A key, a message comes up on the screen saying "Keypad is locked. Press the Mute button to unlock". so all i have to do is press the mute button, the phone isn't actually password locked.
I just received the 8530 from work and installed the desktop Manager software on my laptop. Whenever I try and connect as a modem I recieve an error the remote computer did not repsond. I have looked around on different forums and could not get a definitate answer as to whether or not this phone is capable of this. In the manual it states that in DUN Profile I can use the phone as a modem using a bluetooth enabled PC but no instructions on how to do this were there. I stumbled on 3rd party software "tether". I installed it and it actually worked. So obviously the phone is capable of being used as a modem, but why not using the desktop manager software. Does anyone have a clue?
I have the curve 8530 and I can't set the alarm! Sometimes the number icon appears so I can type in a time but it doesnt recognize it most of the time & sets some random time. I can do all of the other functions in the clock besides set the alarm. Is there a fix for this or anyone else having this issue?
I have spent over 30 minutes on my phoine trying different things to fix the issue. When ever i get a call the phone only rings once and then vibrates.... its irritating especially becuase i dont always hear trhe first ring. The ring tone is Ringer_BBPro_1
I have a Curve 8530, and I am curious about the apps that I can use. I see all kinds of apps for other phones. Specifically, I want a mobile banking application, but my model phone is not listed. The 8330 Curve phone is. Can I use the 8330 apps on the 8530? What is the difference? I find it hard to believe that all of these apps are developed separately for different phones.
So I bought the 8530 from Verizon yesterday. I am having a ton of problems with text messaging, mostly in my house.First, I do have full service in my house Wifi is turned off and I haven't modified any connections or settings to effect this.
I will get the red X that messages aren't sent, then "retries exceeded", "mobile equipment status failed", . I also get odd error messages."SMS error 7, message id 32 general problems".I have no idea, and neither did google about that error message.
I have the BB Curve 8530.I tried to move my calculator from it's original spot, and all of a sudden it disappeared.I have no idea where it went.I tried looking in all the folders, but couldn't see it anywhere. Is there a way for me to search for its location on the phone, or is there a way of re-installing it?
1. I have two e-mail accounts set up on my phone. One the one, the red * alert symbol always shows up on that email account's folder, but for the other one the red * alert symbol for new messages shows up on the separate "messages" folder. how do i fix this?
2. I keep randomly receving the message alert symbol (the red *) on my SMS folder, but I click it and i don't have any new messages and all of my messages are read... what's the deal here?
I just dowloaded and installed desktop software 5.13 and am now not getting any email updates on my curve.I did change me email password in Hotmail, but now cannot reconfigure either of Outlook and my device to allow for continued delivery to my device.I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. I've not been able to find anything via Google or even Microsoft.
So i bought a curve 8530.I had a curve 8330 until i dropped it into the toilet. anyhow so i plugged my new phone that i bought yesterday into my NETBOOK vis the USB cord and it turned my phone off... and it had the red LED on and the phone would NOT turn on until i unplugged it.So i tried it on my desktop computer and VOILA! Worked but not on my netbook (I need it to work on my netbook for tethering)
My daughter and I each got curve 8530's. When I take a photo and save it, it shows up under media and pictures. When she takes photos and saves them, they do not show up there. We both have the same store pictures and folder settings. Interestingly, I pulled her battery yesterday and all the photos started showing up again. But, today she is having problems saving pictures and seeing them in the media folder.
I could not seem to find the right postings to help me with this.I attached a simple small .jpg file and sent it to the new Sprint 8530 BB phone to use as a desktop background. The attachment is a 'Winmail.dat' file. I have downloaded the file to what I thought to me the picture folder but it does not show up.
1) Is there a setting that would automatically show the attached pics like on my old Tmobile Blackberry? (Like an 8320 series)
If I have to 'Download images' manually everytime, I am taking this thing (actually 3 of them) back to Sprint and going back to T-mobile.
Is there already a key combination (shortcut) that allows for adding a datestamp to Tasks>Notes? I use Outlook to sync my tasks to the BB. I already have a datestamp app that allows adding datestamps in Outlook, so now I am looking for the same thing on the 8530.
I have a blackberry 8530smokey violet, my carrier is Verizon. I'm having trouble receiving and sending any type of message(bbm/email/text) while on a phone call. When I hang up ALL my message come pouring in (I guess I should be happy they come in at all). Initially all the messages came in silently so I adjusted it so that I would be notified when a message comes in. I've since removed it but I still have the problem. Any advice?
Also while at work I changed the ringing to silent but all my messages cause my phone to make noise, I assumed when I made the phone silent I assumed all messages/phone calls would be silenced. Was I incorrect?
Well here is the scoop I switched from my curve to a samsung instinct for a couple of days to try out the touch screen. It was a friends phone.I didn't like it, it was way to simple I like my apps and stuff on my blackberry. So I called sprint today to switch my phone back to my blackberry.I can get calls make calls, however I cannot access the internet or set up my e mail.I have resent my service books and received nothing. When I go back into my setup wizard and say setup e mail it says your device had a problem connecting to the server. When I got to like facebook it says no connection.I just want to get back on my interenet and e mail.
Out of no where, all my connection is lost. I go to service status and it says my blackberry internet service, enterprise server, active profile, ssid, type are all "not connected" how do I connect them?
I have a new 8530 used for work. I went into the calendar options on the device and told it to keep calendar appointments forever (learned the hard way from a previous Blackberry) and yet when it syncs the calendar it wants to delete appointments older than sixty days everytime I try to sync.
I've looked all over the boards here for options but so far I think I've done everything anyone suggests. I really hope this isn't just something I have to learn to live with or a price to pay for having a Blackberry. We don't use Enterprise Server yet, so my device syncs by plugging it directly into my computer at work.
I updated my 8530 operating system to 5.0.0.734 a couple of days ago. Today I noticed that I had not been receiving email since the update. When I try to use the email connection, I get "Your device had a problem connecting to the server."Is the server down, or have I caused a problem on my BB by updating the operating system?
I have a Blackberry Curve 8530 tying to sync up the out book with Outlook 2007 with Blackberry Desktop Manager Version 5.01.28 and i am getting the following error during the sync:Connector Specific Error.I have search the forums, and I have tried a host of items that does not seem to be working Was working, but just recently stopped. I have re-installed the Desktop Mgr, but that did not work either.
I've tried things on the internet, but no success.I've installed an app and remove from BB which doesn't remove icon. Some say the BB has to be Rebooted to clean up left over things. I find this unusual that a normal user wouldn't know how to uninstall apps properly especially having to reboot.I want to be able to restart (reboot) my BB without pulling the battery.
I cant seem to find, I want to know how to switch my phone to automatic keyboard lock so every time I put my phone in my pocket it wont call a random number.
So, I've bought a brand new Curve 8530 from Koodo Mobile, it's running OS v5.0.0.654, and I can't seem to be able to attach my blackberry to any email address at all. I've tried a number of addresses and providers, short reboots [alt+rshift+del], battery pulls, updates, and shouting, but none of them seem to make my phone want to allow me to use email.
In addition to this, I can't seem to get access to the blackberry App World at all either. I've tried the same methods as above, in addition to uninstalling, and then reinstalling App world using the desktop software for windows. Am I missing something, or has Koodo locked out my main reason for purchasing this wonderful device?
If you've got any ideas on how to solve either of these issues, please, let me know, as I've racked my brain, and these forums, and I don't seem to be making any progress.Curve 8530 OS v5.0.0.654 on Koodo Mobile
I have a Curve 8530 the BB can't find my fully-charged Plantronics 520 headset when I go through the Bluetooth Setup page. Is there something I'm missing or not doing?
I had to add a new e-mail account to my BB Curve 8530 as the provider I was using was bought out by another company.I had no problems with the setup, but I'm wondering how I can delete the old e-mail account that I don't need any more.
