I have searched a little bit about this subject but everybody says something different. In few days I will buy a BB Bold 9900. I won't have a Blackberry Data Plan. Can I use BBM with wi-fi? I have read some places that some people are talking about using BBM on wi-fi when they are overseas when they don't use their data plan. Is it something possible?
I have an opportunity to pick up an unlocked BB 9700. I don't plan on getting a data plan since I mainly use the phone for calls and text msg'ing. I'm also surrounded by wifi so I always have internet access... However I was wondering if the GPS program on the Blackberry will work w/o a data plan?
I'm coming from an E71 and the GPS always worked w/o data. It was a tad slower for the satellites to lock onto but it still worked. Will the GPS on the BB 9700 work in a similar fashion w/o a data plan?
My daughter asked if she can have my 3gs once I get the 4. She already has a phone so I would simply swap sim card, but she will not get / does not have a data plan. Will the 3gs work for phone and texting (family texting plan)?
I just bought the iphone4s with the 300mb data plan. At first I thought this was a good choice as I will use wifi most of the time. But then I noticed that a lot of the apps need the Internet to run properly. My question is, how exactly does the data usage work with apps? If I download apps such as Facebook, words with friends, Brkery story, etc that uses the Internet constantly will it use up my data usage when I am not connected to wifi? What if the app is not open? Will it still use my data then? Also, how much data does a gps app use? For example, I get lost and use the gps while driving. How much data will the gps/navigation app use? Should I upgrade my plan if I am planning on downloading a lot of apps and checking it from time to time when I am away from wifi (will be downloading apps via wifi).?
I'm trading my BlackBerry Bold 9700 (locked to Bell) for an Apple iPhone 3GS (locked to Bell). I want to know if I can put my existing SIM card in the iPhone 3GS and expect it to work normally, i.e. surf the web, load apps, check email . If not, please advise how this can be done without incurring a rate increase or per use fees. Is data usage the same regardless of the phone's make?
I am using a Verizon BB 8330 (refurbished) with Appalachian Wireless. My data plan does not work with BIS or BES.App. Wire. shoots me the service books, but says that Verizon has some sort of lock in my phone that won't allow my phone to work online. I contacted verizon and they said they do not use locks on phones. I use opera mini 4.2 to access internet.I can not download any apps ota because I always get the message from blackberry that no browser has been configured.I can not download any apps with DM using an ota downloader because I can not find the 'URL to .jad' files. My phone works great almost any where I go, but my opera internet only works in my home area. Are there any tweaks or hacking methods that I can use to get Bis to accept my data plan?Or just to get opera to work in a roaming area?
I have the 8520, and have no data plan with my carrier in my post payment plan, i thought , since i have wi-fi at home, office and tons of hot spots. I can use my BB to access the web using free wi-fi as i have been doing with my last 4 smartphones.Big mistake. i have been charged 55 us last month, for data transfer use , i ran to my planŽs assistance office ( telcel in Mexico ), and the answer i got was. you have to get a data plan from us to be able to use wi-fi ( obviuosly i stared at her , just nodding my head ).There is no point in having a device that has acces to wi fi networks , if i cant access the wi fi network without you data plan, so i got the lady to bring the tech guy. His response was...naaahhh...it will access the wi fi. but weŽll charge u anyway. you need to disable the network from the phone and only leave the wi fi option on so you can access without any other charge, but this will leave you with no phone connection.
Is this real? did i just spend 399us in a gadget that has wi fi capabilities but will not be able to get on any wi fi connection form home or work, without being charged for data transmission over my cell providers network?cmon this sounds as stupid as it does in my head ? i would be really disapointed if i just left my old Nokia E71 SPhone, for this beautiful BB Curve 8520 THAT DOES NOT CONNECT TO THE WI Fi.
I just bought a Blackberry Bold 9900 and I have a data plan with T-Mobile. I was just wondering if there was a speical type of data plan you have to have with this phone because mine doesn't seem to be working.
Right now I'm on a TELUS family plan with 4 people and there are no iPhones. I want to get an iPhone and have it on the family plan but also not buy a data plan. Is it possible to do this? So basically my plan would be around $25 a month with unlimited text and caller ID.
I am wondering what the differences are between the enterprise data plan and the regular blackberry data plan. I currently use Outlook at work and want to be able to both send and receive my work e-mail on my blackberry. Is there a way to do this without getting the enterprise data plan? If possible, What are the downsides to doing this without the enterprise data plan?
I've called t-mobile support twice, and they confirmed that I have a data plan and don't know why I am getting this message when I try to access the internet. A colleague had this problem, and it was fixed by "reprovisioning" the blackberry. I had them try this but it did not work. Any idea why this is happening? I have business enterprise server, but it is not set up yet - could that be causing the problem?
Though I subscribed to my carrier for GPRS services, but the plan has a limit on the data. I have to pay additional if the data exceeds the limit. Therefore when I'm at hotspots or at home, naturally I would want to switch to WIFI to save on costs. Actually, you are right on switching off the data services, it would turn off WIFI as well. So I did a little test. I turned off the entire mobile coverage and left only WIFI on ( which means I'm only connected to my WIFI). I was still able to surf the internet and download both my office and personal emails.
So my only question now is (sort of getting a confirmation), there is no way to turn off the GPRS and leave both the mobile (voice) and WIFI on at the same time?
I am using Bold 9900 (it used to be used by other so the mobile has previous settings. I just replaced the SIM card of the used mobile. I found it cannot access to internet with the message "There is insufficient network coverage to process your request. try again later."
When I used previous model of BB, I could access the internet with my mobile. I tried to reboot Bold 9900 but it does not work.
I just buy a Blackberry bold 9700 and i try to connect to wifi at home ! Works great with facebook, browser etc. But now, i go to my work place and insert the wifi password. It's says to me that it is connected but it still use the wap to connect the internet. (I don't have data plan). So I am charged for connecting with the browser. I go >manage connection>mobile network options> and try to turn off the date services. But when i do, i cannot connect neither with the wifi nor with the wap. Try to understand me, how can the mobile tell me that i am connected to wifi, but use the mobile network to connect the internet which is a charged service.
after 3 days of trying use my bb bold 9780 OS 6 , now i reached to solve the problem and could go through wi-fi with no data plan at all ,,,,,and here are the steps
1- trun of your cell fone network 2- turn on your wi-fi 3 - mobile network setup go and make data service on
DON'T FORGET TO TURN DATA SERVICE OFF BE4 U REACTIVATE YOUR CELL NETWORK AFTER YOU ENJOY A GOOD TIME USING WIFI
I just got an used Bold 9700. I haven't gotten a data plan yet, but I will be upgrading to one very soon. Anyways, I was playing around with the GPS with the wifi radio turned off, the BB maps was working properly. Any explanations to this? I thought BB maps has to work with a data plan?
i currently puchased an unlocked blackberry 9650, and previously i had a 9700.when i put my Sim card it, i am unable to connect to the internet via Rogers wireless. whenever i go to the browser it always states that it is a Wi-Fi service. BUT when i connect via a wi-fi connection it works fine. So i don't understand the problem. I have a data plan and everything when i got my 9700, so i dont see why it wont work for 9650
I am new here, so thanks for any help. Great Community. I read already a few posts but couldn't find a solution. I want to check my gmail emails through my Bold 9700. Currently I don't want to sign up for a Data plan. I want to use my Wifi connection in the office or at home in order to get my emails. I don't need push function but I don't want to go through the webpage and log in. I just want to press any button and receive my emails on request.
Is there any way to get my emails? My friend has a iphone and he can choose between manual email receiving with wifi or push with data plan.
I am looking to buy a second hand bold 9000 on 3 network. What I would like to know please is whether I can use the wifi to access the internet and email from my wireless router free of charge or do I have to have a data plan to do so. The idea I have is to use the limited internet and messaging that 3 offer on top up whilst mobile , but to only use wifi indoors.
I currently purchased an unlocked blackberry 9650, and previously I had a 9700. When I put my Sim card it, I am unable to connect to the internet via Rogers wireless. Whenever I go to the browser it always states that it is a WiFi service. But when I connect via a wifi connection it works fine. So I don't understand the problem. I have a data plan and everything when I got my 9700, so I don't see why it wont work for 9650.
I already have data plan on my sim and few days back all of a sudden the EDGE became small letters. Tried registering host and tried doing hard reset and even tried upgrading OS to 6.0 but nothing worked.note that i had BES account configured on this BB device and everything worked just fine until Thursday October 6th.
i upgraded the software on my 9900 and now my data plan isnt working.i dont know what to do, tryied calling the network they promised to help and this is from this morning.
I have a bold 9000 on Vodafone which has been unlocked. My phone provider is on O2 and I have internet access plan but not bis plan. I would like to know if I can install an O2 os on and then some way use my internet access on my O2 sim card to access the net on bold 9000?
I checked out my data usage on the att website and it turns out surprisingly that i consistently use under 200mb a month.
1. I beejive im every work day for at least 2 hours on edge(don't tell my boss) but it suprisingly only comes out to only about 4mbs per day (if i used 3g would the data consumption be higher?)
2. I maybe use slingplayer 1 day a month on 3g (sad) about 10mbs i think
3. I grab email manually by opening up the mail app maybe twice a day max.
Do you think i should switch asap? or is it best recommended to view iphone 4 data usage first in case i upload 720p video (which i doubt they will let you do)
I bought an iPhone 3GS off a guy on craigslist and it works great, no complaints. But every few minutes or so I get the alert saying that I "Cannot activate cellular data network - You are not subscribed to a cellular data service", and it's really annoying because it lights up my iPhone all the time and kills my battery. It's also really annoying - it comes up whenever I'm typing a message or playing a game; literally when I do ANYTHING on my phone. I do not have a data plan, but I have used 'unlockit.co.nz' to install a Fake APN to my iPhone to block data. Rogers has also given me a data block. This has been going on ever since I bought the phone, I thought installing a Fake APN would stop it but I guess not. I can't really restore since I have a lot of stuff on this iPhone already.. but if that's the only option then I will be forced to. I used to have an unlocked Fido 3G (about 2 months ago) without data and it never gave me this alert, do you think it has something to do with my 3GS being locked to Rogers?
This phone is a jailbroken iPhone 3GS (model MC143C) running version 3.1.3 (7E18) and locked to the "Rogers 5.0" network. If it helps the modem firmware is 05.12.01.if there are no real solutions, I still have 2 months left on my warranty. Would Apple fix it or give me a new one if I un-jailbreak it?
Does retrieving music and data from iCloud use up the data plan usage? And is there an adapter that will allow me to charge the iPhone with the standard charging cord for Blackberry and Android?
Does anyone know what happens if you get an (activated) iPad micro-SIM and put it in a PC data card? Grabbing the $30/month for unlimited data before it goes away would be attractive if it works.
I'm aware I'd have to get a micro-SIM to SIM adaptor, but what else? Change the APN my PC uses? Does AT&T check the IMEI? I've been searching but no one seems to have tried it, unless my search-fu skills are failing me.
I have t-mobile as my provider, and I have their new limited $15/month data plan with my HTC HD2.I was wondering whether I can use wifi without data usage going towards my data plan.I expect that the 200MB limit will be reached pretty quickly if I cannot use wifi to balance things out.
I now have an iPhone 4 and am getting ready to sell my 3Gs. However, a family member would love to have the 3Gs but does not use texting, email, etc.Is there a way I can use the 3Gs on our ATT Family plan but without the cost of a data plan? My new iPhone 4 is on the Family Plan.Is this where "unlocking" the iPhone would apply?Very basic question - easier (for me) to ask than searching.
I recently purchased a BB Storm II. Wi-Fi was working fine on iy went I just started to use it, but since I signed up for the BB service excluding data (e-mail only), the Wi-Fo no longer works. When I enable the WiFi link, the icon remains grey! Is this how the phone was designed to work - No W-Fi without a data plan.
