Sony Ericsson :: K800i - Phone Flashing Tutorial XS++
Sep 30, 2007
I have seen that flashing CID52 phones has been very often nowadays, but many people are asking how to flash their phones and there is no such tutorial around the forum, so I decided to put one. First of all I would like to tell the advantage (purpose) or meaning of flashing. Flashing the phone is procedure of putting new firmware (software) in the phone. There are many reasons to flash our phones. Firmware upgrade, solve software problems and bugs, convert our phones to some other model (most common is K800 to K810) and etc.
Flashing the firmware is done by changing the MAIN and the FS part of the firmware (while not touching the EROM and the GDFS) which makes the flashing easy procedure that can be done with the ordinal DCU60 USB cable (the cable you get with your sony ericsson phone). Once we know what flashing is, we can start preparing for the flashing procedure. To flash the phone means to change the MAIN and the FS part of the firmware, which means if you want to flash your phone with new one, you have to download it. Firmware and other stuff can be downloaded from here:
These pages are free and registration is easy and fast. First, download XS++ flashing program. When you download MAIN and FS files for flashing, you need to download finalization files for your new firmware. There are MAAANY finalization files (a.k.a custom files or custpacks and etc.) sorted by the phone's firmware CDA numbers. To download the right one for you, you have to check your phone CDA. CDA can be checked from the service menu (>*. When you have the flash drivers installed, you can run XS++. Before that, prepare you firmware files in one folder (I mean the MAIN and FS file unzipped in .mbn, .fbn format or whatever it is) to have them easy for accessing and navigation.
Turn off your phone. Remove the SIM card. Run XS++ and then press the "Connect button". Then connect the phone to your pc using the USB cable while the phone is turned off. When connecting the phone to pc, hold pressed the "c"button (on the phone) pressed down. This will connect your phone to XS++, where you can start flashing it. You will see folowing window: Press the flash radio button (As number 1 shows) if needed only. That will guide you to the flashing panel of XS++. Here you can select which firmware files you will use to flash your phone with. So check the FLASH MAIN and FLASH FILESYSTEM check boxes. Then press browse and locate MAIN and FS firmware files. When browsing from MAIN navigate and select the MAIN firmware file you have downloaded, and when browsing from FILESYSTEM, do tha same for the downloaded FS firmware file.
Then press the "Flash" button. Now you have to wait while your phone is being flashed. Once flashing is done, you will be prompted to unplug the phone. Then you can turn on the phone. You will get this error: "Configuration error, please contact network operator for information". This means that your phone is not finalized. Finalizing the phone is done by uploading a pack of files into predefined folder inside the phone's filesystem structure. That pack of files is called finalization files also knows as custom files, cestpacks and etc. Use XS++ to upload these files (you downloaded before) into this folder: tpa/preset/custom
Use the XS++'s FSX feature to upload these files. Here is a tutorial how to upload files to phone filesystem using XS++
You can ask here for more info if something is not clear. Hope this guide will help most of the people who are runing around the forum and asking the members for step by step flashing tutorial.

My K800i just suddenly did not switch back on the other day! I have been on the Sony Ericsson website and gone through all the steps to check the battery and nothing works! The battery works in another phone and the only sign of life is a red LED flashing in the infrared port? Plugging it in overnight and still does not come on. The info on this phone is extremely important! If any updates are needed will the info be lost i.e. text messages?
The OS of my K800i went to hell the other day. I need to reinstall it. Can anyone tell me can do it on my own and how. I've been browsing the internet and in some forums I've seen information that I can "flash" the phone with some program and then the update service will do the rest but I don't know which program does that. Can someone tell me? Or if there's a better way please share.
I have my old K800i which needs flashing and unlocking. I have no idea which firmware it's on. A few years ago I installed a load of VKP patches, the ones I remember installing are the Unlocking and Walkman patches, others I can't remember. I'd just like a few things clarifying: 1) Is it safe for me to reflash the phone without undoing the VKP Patches? Otherwise, I'm screwed because I did quite a few which I can't remember off. 2) Is there a proper unlock? I can do the VKP patch again, but if there's a better solution, please let me know 3) What software do I need? I remember using XS++ for flashing and TopSony for my firmware downloads, is it still the same?
basically this phone is next to useless when in a bar at night. when driving, its acceptable at the higheset earpiece volume. indoors in a living room, its fine. how can i improve the volume when talking on the phone? do i need to flash the drivers or something?
I tried installing Number1's modded display driver v1.0. What happened is that I had a plain blank bright white screen. There was sound and I can play music using the shortcuts. It's like the display was very bright. I tried looking for the original display driver of my phone but I cannot find anything so what I did is that I tried flashing the firmware and file system using R1KG001 CID52. The flashing was successful but when I tried turning on the phone, it was a blinking screem saying "Please Wait" with a progress bar not progressing. I tried re-flashing but still the same problem. I tried using R8BA024 CID 52 but still the same problem. So what I did is that I used the original firmware and file system which is R8BF002 that I downloaded from cybershot.4shared.com. It solved the issue but I was wondering why I cannot install other firmware on my phone. Can someone tell me why? My phone is K800i (DB2020 CID52) with firmware and file system R8BF003.Another problem is that the font style and font size of the applications that I installed on my phone has been changed. I wanna restore the original ones. I don't know how but I believe it has something to do with the custpack. Please help me guys. I really want to upgrade the firmware and file system of my phone to K810i. What should I do? I'm using XS++ v3.1.No one can predict to what heights you can soar until you spread your wings."

I have had this K800i for the last two months and have kept it very clean and tidy. However, when juggling between SIM cards this evening, I switched it off and it will not switch on again. The battery was almost full last time it was on. The power button looks fine to me.
I don't know whats wrong with my phone but everything is written like f4:####. It started to happen when i turn off my phone on the plane and then turn it back on when i landed. I did not installed anything new on my phone. This just happen out of no where. I turned off my phone and took out my sim card and it didnt seem to work.
With my K700i, if a call came through that I did not want to pick up, but equally did not want to divert to voice mail, I could press the C button. This would make the phone carry on ringing, but silently. This is great for times when you don't want people to know that you are rejecting their call. Can anyone tell me what (if any) the equivalent key is on the K800i? C seems to have no effect.
i have a K800i that by entering voice record via my right shortcut while having a conversation, i am able to record two way. The phone is now 'well bashed' up but i kept it because of this simple feature. Can anyone tell me of a phone that will give me this simple one touch feature please. I talk to salespeople with blank expressions, i get lectures on the law..not interested!..just need a phone that you guy's could recommend.
But I have latest firmware, flashed my phone today. But it just turned off by itself. I wonder what the problem is. I noticed sometime back that the phone froze for sometime before turning off. The phone boots normally after that.
My k800i has been absolutely fine for the 4 or so years i've owned it but recently trying to start the golf game it came installed with has crashed the phone sending into an auto restart.Today instead of restarting, the phone crashed and had a few pixels on the screen in dark Grey but wouldn't change so i had to remove the battery. Now whenever i turn on the phone, the screen display is completely white and the phone vibrates once. I have tried removing the memory card, letting the phone sit for a few minutes before trying again etc all with no success. After googling this problem it seems fairly common but I didn't want to download different software that could damage it permanently. Does anyone know a good solution to this?
Recently I've been having problems with the video, when I play back the video on my phone, it works perfectly, and theres sound as well. But when I transfer it to my computer, and when I play the video using VLC player, theres no sound only video?
I got a Sony Ericsson k800i today but I have no idea how to get the pictures from the camera to my laptop. The photos are saved on the phone in the Cyber-shot section, but I don't know how to get them to appear in the photo section in the File Manager.
So I went to hook it up to my computer and it froze. Not able to do anything I took out the battery and put it back in. Problem is, it turns on with a white screen. I have a K800i by the way. So what do I do?
Can any one tell me how can I make my K800i phones sound more high and is there any software that can password my file for example: my music folder or camera folder my software info: R8BF003 prgCXC1250210_Generic_WI R8BF003 Erom: R3A022 Customization is T-Mobile Uk
I turned my phone off then on. In the process of it starting up it kept on turning on and off by itself. I had no chance to do anything before it wouldn't turn off again. The battery said it was full but everytime it turned back on I could see it was loosing life. I went to plug it in to charge but that wouldn't help as it wouldn't charge while it was turning on and off all the time. I tried to take the battery out. I have taken the memory card out. Now it has frozen with a white lit up screen.
My K800i is suddenly dead for no reason. It worked when I changed to my new K610i, but when I tried to switch it on again an hour later it was dead. Wont turn on, wont charge. The diode blinks when I connect a charger, data cable or try to turn it on. this is the only life sign.
I have a spare K800i that I use every now and again and today I switched it on and it went to a white screen and stayed like that for 10 mins, it wouldn't let me switch it off either so I had to remove the battery now it wont even power up. Is there any way of fixing this or do i have to throw it out.
Well today I was outside playing basketball with my friends. Only the usual. Then suddenly in the middle of the game when I jumped to get the ball my k800i fell of the floor. When it fell it jumped of 2 times and run away from about 7 meters. When I picked it up everything was OK except 1 thing. My screen was broke. The phone was still working but the glass was broken. Now I think I have to go to the service shop to fix it. I hope the cost isn't big!
My phone has started crashing at time i.e. while on a call it sometimes switches off also when connecting to the PC it will crash and sometimes reboot itself. Is there a fix for this crashing problem and if so is there a complete idiots guide for me to do this myself.
I have a problem with my K800i phone. When I'm checking the camera album phone memory status of my phone it shows that there are two files, but when I'm trying to open my camera album to erase it, it says that there are no files. Why is that? Does my phone have a virus? If so, how can I delete it from my phone? Also, how can I scan protect my phone from viruses.
I accidentally used the wrong files to debrand my k800i and I didn't figure that out till after I debranded it. So I turn it on and the flash keeps going off with a white screen. So I use SEUS and update the firmware and once I did that it asks for a phone lock code or something so I put "0000" after that it boots up and after awhile it'll go WSOD and restart and it'll keep doing that over and over again.
Got a problem with my phone (K800i), there is a hidden a file in my camera album both in memory card and phone memory. When i'm checking the information of both memories, it shows that there are 3 files (1 in memory card and 2 on phone memory) but there really is no file on it. I'm wondering if that is a possible vruses that may ruin my entire phone. How would i be able to clean up that file.
