LG :: Vx8300 Hidden Menu Unlock / May Work On Other Models?Mar 21, 2009
before i get started, let me say that im on the verizon network. if your on any other, i cant tell you if this will work or not, but i doubt it can hurt to try. I AM BY FAR NO EXPERT THOUGH, SO TRY ANY OF THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! I CAN NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR THE RESULTS.after spending a night breaking down my phone and cross referencing other models, I figured out how to hack the v4 software far enough to get to the hidden menu and the super popular wap proxy settings. I know now that it shouldnt take a night to do it, but i had never even looked into cell phone technology prior to this, so i had to learn a bit.
the reason i say it may work on other models, is i tried changing the model number on the vx8500 hidden menu access code to my vx8300 model. it worked, so im guessing it may work on other lg models. just replace the "8300" with whatever model # you have.first, you still need bitpim to open the file system, and xvi32 to edit the hex files, but the main change was accessing the hidden menu. from the main screen (the one that you see when you open the phone) type ##program8300 and hit <send> as if it was a number you were trying to call. "???????" comes up. type seven zeros (0000000) and viola! hidden menu.
im not sure yet what all the options do, but if you reset the browser (8,7) it seems to erase all your edited browser info and proxy info, as well as resetting the 3rd hex in the paramtable1.fil file.this isnt supposed to be a step by step walk through, so if you cant figure out how to use this info, you really need to keep reading articles. keep in mind that 24 hours ago, i didnt even know what "brew" or a "wap proxy" was. what it IS intended for, is to open up the hidden menu, which since v4 of the firmware came out, seemed to be inaccessible. hope this helps anyone still using this phone.
