IPhone :: New 3Gs - Text Message Alerts Sounds Funny
Jun 19, 2009
I have the same text message tone as I did on my 3G the "Tri-Tone". Anyways whenever I receive a text message alert it the alert sounds quite a bit different than it it did on my 3G and everyone elses phone. It sounds like its distorted or something.
I'm thinking of abandoning the I-Phone altogether because of two annoyances that get only worse, not better, with time. But if any newer I-Phone (I currently have the 3GS) has removed these annoyances, I will upgrade.
1. I want txt alerts to continue (every minute or two) until I have opened and read a text message. Does any model I-Phone allow for this?
2. I want to disable predictive text as I don't like the I-Phone algorhthym for this -- it causes me endless grief. Which model allows for this?
3. I want my battery to last a minimum of 2 days without charging (I've tried all the usual ways of reducing battery consumption and the result does not meet my needs). Does any model I-Phone allow for this?
Has anyone else noticed that when "Show SMS Preview" is off and you get a text message, it shows the person's name now? In 2.1 it only said "New Text Message. Now it says the person's name and new text message, like it did in 2.0 and before. Is it possible to change it to not show the person's name? I might downgrade to 2.1 because of this.
My only frustration with the iPhone is the lack of ability to customize the "text message received" sound with clips from my own collection. I believe that the only way to modify these sounds is through SSH, which requires jailbreaking my iPhone. However, I'm worried that jailbreaking my iPhone will compromise my ability to develop and distribute apps in Apple's iPhone Developer Program.
1) I would like to avoid the problem if possible. Are there any non-jailbreaking paths I can take to modify the sound files?
2) If not, could I perhaps jailbreak my phone, modify the sound files, then revert to a non-jailbroken state with the modified sound files in tact?
3) If not, can I participate in the Apple Developer Program with a jailbroken iPhone?
I did the most recent update for May23, 2012 and since I updated the phone I no longer am receiving sounds on alerts or incoming texts. Also when i type on the keyboard, there is no sound. My music works no problem and when I test the ring tones, they all come up on the speaker, but my phone now only vibrates when there's a new text. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have checked all my settings, reset the phone and everything and still no sound.
i keep getting a text message alert and icon saying i have a message unopened but when look there is nothing there i have been in all unopened files but cant find the "ghost message" anywhere i have searched all the phone gone through filters the lot , i have rebooted phone and pulled battery but keeps popping up all the time?
My cry for help is that I think you will all agree that the text message alerts on the D900i are really naff, so I downloaded some more interesting ones.Problem is I cant find how to use them on this phone .I go into settings, sound settings then message tones and all it will let me use is the naff ones that came with the phone.Does anyone know how I can get the tones from my music to the message tones please?
Looking at buying this phone, but can anyone tell me if it is possible to assign different ringtones for incoming text messages based on the contact info, similar to, but independent from assigning different ringtones for incoming calls.
For example, Wife call - ringtone 1 Wife text - ringtone 2
Work (group of contacts) call - ringtone 3 Work (group of contacts) text - ringtone 4
I used to be able to have different text alert sounds assigned on my old LG325, and just wondering if this phone has a similar feature.I find a lot of phones including my current Samsung Vice have only one ringtone for all text messages, which is annoying because I can't prioritize checking my incoming text messages, and have to look at every message to see if it's important.
Hey all, I have a BJ2 that I am able to put my own .mp3 ringtones on and also use the .mp3's as message alerts. The problem I am having is when I use them as message alerts, the music plays til the end of the song every time, even after I hit the button to read the message. I used my phone explorer and ceregeditor to increase the size of the allowed file for the ringtone. Is there a way to make it so the song stops when I read the message?
Just got a new Razr2 V9. I know that with my old V3, if I assigned a custom ring tone to a contact, the text message sound would also use the same ringtone. The problem was that I couldn't tell whether it was a text or phone call based on the alert. This was a recognized issue with the V3's an couldn't be changed.I was hoping that the V9 would have this fixed. I can't seem to find a way to make a contact have a custom ring tone and a separate custom text message sound.
On my 8330 Curve I get a teeny icon at the top of the screen for message/email alerts. (I get audio also, but don't always hear it). Is there any way to get additional text somewhere further down the screen? I don't always look at the top when I'm in a hurry, it's so small.
I have my Text Message Alerts set up to make an audible sound as well as flash the LED. The first time I receive a text message from a contact (Bob for example) the phone will alert properly (audible and LED). But, any subsequent text messages from that same contact (Bob) will only flash the LED but not make an audible sound. I have found that as long as their is an existing text message in my box from Bob (read or unread) no audible sound is made. If I delete all text messages from Bob from my box it will alert properly. How can I make the phone alert for every text message received, regardless of their being an existing text message from a contact.
My iphone 3GS has no sounds now except the phone ringer. I have toggled the mute switch back and forth and it makes no difference. When I go into settings for sounds I see at the top that it is marked silent. However I cannot find any way to switch that off and reset it back to sounds. The only thing that seems to work now is vibrate and the phone ring.
My iPhone 6 Plus is less than a 2 weeks old but since day one its speaker sounds distorted.  The ringer or alerts or even the new email alert have a popping or clangy sound to them. Is this a software issue or hardware? My phone is uptodate and Ive tried hard reboots to try to alleviate the problem but it didn't fix the problem. Should I try to restore it?Â
I've had my G600 for a while and I'm running into some annoyances: Is there any way to turn off missed call/text message continuous alert? I set it Message Alert Repitition to 'Once' but it doesn't seem to make any changes, it keeps vibrating all day until I check it. Also, if I get a missed call and don't answer it, after it's done vibrating in Silent mode, a quiet but noticeable chime will go off when they have hung up. What the hell is that all about, it's supposed to be Silent mode. Any way to get rid of that? Is there any way to change my text message alert sounds? When I 'Add Words' when I'm composing a text message, the phone doesn't even save the added words to a dictionary. I have to 'Add Words' again every damn time! When I get a voicemail 'text' message, it will show on the home screen that I received a text message from the PREVIOUS text message I received, and not from 'Voicemail'. I also get missed call alerts on the home screen from people that didn't call me. Do you guys get these problems too and how do I fix them? This is the buggiest phone I've ever used.
I was very annoyed that I got a "text message" whenever I recieved a voicemail. I was being alerted by the same tone as my sms messages, so it led me to think I had a text message (especially since it is borat telling me I have one). I tried and tried to get it to either go away, or better yet play a different tone so I knew the difference without having to look. I am slowly becoming familiar with all the settings the storm has to offer, and came across an idea to make my wishes come true. I saw that the sms message was titled "Voice Mail (my number)". So I thought I may be able to set a custom tone to MY number. Well look at that, an idea of mine worked for once. So in conclusion, if you want your voicemail alert to be distinctive, add your own number to your contacts and set a custom tone to messages for yourself. I hope I have helped some people, I know I will love the storm even more after figuring this one out.
Step by step nstructions for Storm users only, I am not familiar with other phones that may have different settings:
Go to "Contacts", press -BB button-, select "New contact". Add YOUR info (the important part is the exact number associated to your phone). Press -BB Button- and select "Save". Go to the home screen. Click on the sound indicator on the top left of the screen (looks like a speaker with ))) after it. Scroll to the bottom of that list and select "Set Contact Alerts". Click on "Contact Names", click "Add Name" on the menu that pops up. Find your contact info (the one you entered at the beginning of this) and select it. Select "Messages", and under "Ring Tone" you can select any ringtone you like, and adjust other settings if you would like. But the ringtone is the important part. When you have edited those settings, press the -BB Button- and select "Save". Press the -BB button- again and select "Save".
I am new to the blackberry world here and I am trying to figure out how to change the alert tones for different applications like mms, sms, and calendar items. Can anyone help me? I also have the latest software update.
I cant change or set the ring tones and alerts on my phone. I go to Sounds scroll to Set ring tones/Alerts, click on but nothing happens. It just sits there with Set ring tones/Alerts highlighted but doing nothing? It used to work ok and I have used it to change and set ring tones in the past but now nothing happens. It never moves from that screen. Any ideas you clever clogs out there?
all i can now only hear vibration alerts and no ringtones on my storm regardless of which sound setting i set it to or sms, bbm, or calls. have tried the options-ringtone/alerts settings and when i click the 'try it' button still only vibration, music was on silent but managed to get thet back while playing by hitting menu button-enable handset option. please is there an option i need to find to re enable ringtones?
My ringtone and alert sounds quit making sound. I've gone through all the settings I know, and everything seems to be fine. Even when I click the 'try it' button, there is no sound coming out. Any suggestions?
The phone is about year old.Every time I try to use the high speed camera setting the screen turns blue. The normal videos and pictures dont come out good either.Anyone else have these issues? Any suggestions on how to clean the camera lens?Another issue is I had an Env2 think the vx9200 that had my ringtones and music on a memory card.I put that same card into the Dare and I can't set my sounds as a ringtone. The ones under 30 seconds I can but not the full songs like I could on the Evn. Is there a certain setting or specific way to use sounds for ringtones and alerts?
I am hoping that someone out there can help me. I have a sound file that I would like to use as my "New Text Message" sound, and I have saved it as a .wav and placed it in the /Windows/ folder on my Samsung Blackjack II, even rebooting the phone after doing so, but it's not showing up under Preferences -> Sounds -> Other Sounds... Anybody out there have any ideas as to what else I might need to do/try? Anybody out there with a Blackjack II who has successfully added a new "New Text Message" sound?
