IPhone :: ITunes / How Do I Unzip 3.0 Firmware To Have An Ipsw Extension?
Jun 25, 2009
I updated to 3.0 via iTunes. Also downloaded the 3.0 restore file from iclarified. It comes as a zip file.I extracted it to my pwnage folder as instructed, but when I open Redsn0w it is looking for a file with an .ipsw extension. There is none when I extracted. I tried 2 different (un)Zip programs. What am I missing?
i want to restore to a custom firmware so in itunes on my mac i press OPTION+Restore in itunes but it doesnt allow me to choose any IPSW file... its like greyed out.. why is that? it worked the last time i restored.. Can someone please tell me why i cant choose the IPSW in the browse window?
Today my JB'd 3G on 3.1.2 went into a funky state and I attempted to reboot. Since then I've been stuck on the Apple logo at start up and nothing.
So, i put the phone in DFU mode and Itunes 9 is giving me the option to "Update & Restore", HOWEVER, I dont want to do this because I want to stay on 3.1.2 for obvious reasons. I also have been reading stuff about SHSH but I have no clue what this is so one can assume I never did anything prior regarding SHSH.
When itunes has the pop up on the screen saying "update and restore" can I hold "shift and click "update&restore" to choose a 312 ipsw, or is that option only available if restoring without being in DFU mode.
For all you lucky MAC owners - now's your time to give back. If you could, please create multiple versions with PWNage Tool for 3.0 so that the rest can restore their iphones with these jailbreaking IPSW's.
I'm specifically looking for Cydia (no Installer), 2G (original iphone) activation, no boot logos, and around a 500 MB system partition.
Or, if someone has a link to some newly created IPSW's, please share.
iPhone : 3g Current Firmware: 3.0.1 (7A400) Carrier: ATT 4.0 I JUST restored my iPhone 3g with the above stated firmware which was previously ATT 5.0 (carrier) and 3.0.1 as well. I got the firmware from iClarified (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4303) and followed the instructions which stated that for step two, I was to get the firmware from the link which has the 3.0.1 version and not the 3.0 version. Then followed the rest of the instructions on the rest of the page. My phone restored just fine, to the state which is listed on top. I opened Redsn0w version 0.8 and directed it to the same restore file which I used and the message I get is that the firmware is not recognized. So I'm stuck and not sure of where to go from here or what to do.
I want to restore my iphone 4 back to 4.0.1 and i try so many site to download the 4.0.1 restore but after i unzip it, it did not have a ipsw file inside and how can i restore my iphone 4. Please Help....
something when wrong after i use jailbreakme.com the face time icon gone so i cannot use it right now.so that is why i want to restore it again and do the whole process again.
Trying to JB my iPhone 3G couple nights ago and it just kept on staying on the stupid Apple logo after everything else was done (It wasn't booting up) I don't know if I had to leave it a certain amount of time or anything but left it a good hour and it just vibrated a couple times and restarted itself but never fully booted to the home screen.I think the problem is that when Pwnage searches for the firmware I just choose the defualt firmware that iTunes dl's the 2.2.1 one, I tried d/l the one from iClarified and using that but everytime I d/l it (And others from different websites) they never show as a .ipsw file, they just show up as a bunch of unrecognised files so It won't let me use them to JB. Anyone any idea on what I should do? Is there a setting in Windows (Using Vista) that lets me check an option to recognise .ipsw files? The strange thing is the normal one that iTunes d/l's (To update my iPhone) is recognisable and I can use that, but any other ones I try to d/l don't come up as .ipsw?
I don't have a mac, and due to me screwing up an APP I had to do a Restore, so I'm on apples official 3.1 for my 3g. Can I use the Custom IPSW to do a new jailbreak on my phone with Redsn0w 8 or do I need to wait for a redsn0w to reliably do it safely?
So i just bought an iPhone 3G at the store and would like to use it with a different carrier, it has firmware 3.1.3 on it and i have iTunes 9.1 on my mac, I've been looking all over for an answer but everyone just seems to be talking about the iPhone 3GS or the iPad. i really don't wanna break it or do anything before I'm sure it'll work. I've had a jailbroken iPhone (first generation) before and unlocked it many times, but as it broke a few months ago I'm totally not up to date now.
I unlocked the phone with ziphone. It's been working fine until I was stupid enough to upgrade to firmware 2.0 and iTunes 7.7. Now the phone is bricked and shows the "slide for emergency" screen and won't do anything until I activate. iTunes 7.7 shows the same ATT activation screen and won't even recognize the phone. What's the best way to unbrick my phone?
i downloaded two different custom 3.1 firmwares; i had to download them because i dont have a mac i am running windows vista. Neither one of them are "compatible" with itunes! Can someone please tell me what i am doing wrong, if anything!
I just started researching IPhone hacking over the last week, and it seems to me that the obvious way to block this, is to disable iTunes ability to upload custom firmware to the iPhone by holding down option while agreeing to reloading firmware. I would think that iTunes could only allow firmware to be downloaded from a registered apple server.
The argument that it would require a customer to have an internet connection is poor, because just about everyone does, and people could take the phone to an apple store if they did not. No less restrictive than "no cash" for iPads—most people have credit or debit cards (yes I read today that policy is terminated). Or would hackers just create something that can upload the firmware and simulate iTunes so this doesn't matter?
Im trying to recover my text messages from a previous back up. I want to view them on my computer. Ive tried going into the backup files but none of the files have an extension on them so i dont seem to be able to open them.
If I receive an email or appointment with a phone number in the format of 123-456-7890 x123, it will allow me to click it to dial but then just dials all the numbers. It should pause at the extension and wait to dial it until i click to do so. My older Blackberry had no issue performing this task. Seems like a major programming oversite on Apple's end.
Okay, here's what I mean:If I use PwnageTool.app to "pwn" my iPhone and create a custom IPSW for my iPhone, and then install said custom IPSW through iTunes in the way described here, will I lose all of the Notes, Text Messages, Visual Voicemails, Ringtones, Contact Favorites, Widgets, volume preferences/settings, etc. that I have saved on my iPhone, and which are backed up every time I sync via iTunes? If doing all that stuff with PwnageTool.app WILL erase that data, is there any way for me to get it back? Any way at all?
I bought a nokia 5800 and I tried to download the Nokia Multiledia Transfer for connecting the cell phone to my mac. When the download is finished I try to unzip the file but Mac does not open it. So I tried to unzip the file with windows but I obtained an error which told me the file is corrupted.
I am trying to get a hands free setup going in my car. My radio has an auxiliary input. So I can listen to the music on the iPhone 3G through the stereo, but if someone calls I have to unplug it and use the phone. I need male to female or a coupler.I can't seem to find either in any retail store or online vendor. It seems like a simple request to me, but apparently I might as well go looking for a mermaid.Has anyone seen anything like this or have a similar setup?
Many of the numbers that I call since switching jobs have extensions. Can they be added to the phone number listing as shown when making a call? Currently, I have been adding the 'notes' field to the contact lists when someone or a particular department needs to be accessed. I find it confusing sometimes and would like it displayed even though it may not dial it. Can it be displayed?
1 - Not all n900 applications i find on the net are searchable or listed at all on the n900s built in application downloader. some files i download manually off the net are in gz and deb format. do i need to install the nokia pc software and transfer them to the phone in order to use them, as i cannot find any other way to do it? from using google there are an awful lot of users saying the nokia software does not work very well at the moment and to avoid using it until its fully adapted for the n900, as some features are supposedly unusable?
2 - is there an easy file unzip program for the n900, hopefully easily found within the n900s application downloader? i tried searching for 'zip' and 'unzip' but nothing crops up
