IPhone :: Signal Strength Bars Replaced By Negative Number
I've managed to replace my signal strength bars by a negative number. However, I don't know how to get back to the signal strength bars. After reading an article, "Bugs & Fixes: iPhone 3GS signal strength oddities" in MacWorld I went into Field Test mode on my iPhone. Here is what I did:
WARNING: Once you replace your signal strength bars you may not be able to get them back. The "more accurate numerical indicator" is much more accurate but not quite as easy to see. You've been warned.
Quoting from the article by Ted Landau of Macworld:
"Finally, at least for AT&T phones, you can get a more accurate numerical indicator of the iPhone’s current signal strength by manually dialing *3001#12345#* followed by a tap of the Call button."
I did this from an original 8G iPhone. However when I got my new 3GS 32G iPhone and restored from my Mac the new "more accurate numerical indicator" feature loaded along with my data.

IPhone :: When Touched Signal Bars Changed To A Certain Negative Number
I restored my 3GS to 3.1.3 just now but of course, I restored from my backup also because I need my text messages, notes and all. Now, this was also true before the restore (software), that when I touched the signal bars they changed to a certain negative number. When the restore finished, I tried to change them but they didn't. The restore from backup got them back to the same thing. So I'm wondering, is there any way to get the bars to remain permanent?

IPhone :: Signal Strength / One Or No Bars With 3G
Is it possible that pretty much everyone has a problem with the signal strength? I was apprehensive about the uncovered "revolutionary" antennae and was proven right. My new iPhone has what can only be described as ****THE worst signal response of all iPhones I had****! I am so unhappy about this that it borders rage. I am pondering returning it and asking for my money back. Also, does anyone have a problem with buggy Settings.app on the Phone tab? After about three attempts to activate FaceTime which will NOT work, it completely stops responding to the slider and I have to reboot the phone to (unsuccessfully) try again. Information: iPhone 4 iOS 4 A power user.

IPhone :: Signal Strength And Bars
I am getting call failed messages with two or three bars on my 3gs. the field test numbers show a signal strength of -99 to -113. i have read anything worse than -100 can drop calls. if you are getting call hangups are your numbers similar? I thought the IPhone would switch to edge in the middle of a call if the signal gets weak field test thread - http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...readid=1400288

Motorola Photon 4G :: Signal Bars Vs Signal Strength?
I was wondering if anyone knows what algorithm is used for the signal bars on the Photon 4G. I have found that there seems to be no correlation between the signal strength (in dBm / asu) in Settings -> About phone -> Status and the signal bars that are shown. Often the signal bars will shoot from 1 to 5 or 6 even with really low signal ( ~97 to > 100 dBm) that doesn't fluctuate.

IPhone :: Signal Strength / 4 Find Signals But No Bars
I have an IPhone 4 with 4.0.1 iOS and have had a problem with signal strength in general. Specifically though, if I lose the signal totally, the phone starts Searching and once it finds a signal again, the phone will have no bars. So it looks like this: _ _ _ _ _ AT&T It will stay just like this until I reboot the phone. I can drive around to locations I know I would ordinarily get 5 bars, but it always stays at 0. Changing the phone to Airplane Mode doesn't resolve the situation. A reboot is the only remedy. Information: iPhone 4 iOS 4

IPhone :: Low Signal Strength Of IP4
Since moving to the iPhone 4 my signal strength has got worse. Mostly its at 1-3 bars. Only once have I noticed it at 4 bars. I have not had full 5 bar signal since I got it last week. I have dropped calls every single day since I have had it and I am not holding it in the "death grip". My old 3GS had no signal issues. I have walked around with my iPhone 4 and the 3GS handset and the 3GS has full signal almost all the time so this cannot be an O2 issue and has to be an issue with my iP4. I have asked other iPhone 4 users and nobody's having low signal strength, in fact most say theirs is better and they have signal in places they didn't before. Information: iOS 4

IPhone :: Low Signal Strength
I have an iPhone 2G unlocked with 3.1.2 running on T-Mobile. I just got it a few days ago. I've noticed that since I got it, it's had really bad signal, the bars are usually down to 1-3 at home (usually 3 or 2) and, while this annoyed me, it didn't bother me much cause it stilled worked. However, at school I've noticed my signal is actually down to 0 at times and in one specific class, stays at the 0-1 bar and constantly disconnects saying No Service.

IPhone :: 3GS Reception Signal - Reception Bars Fluctuate Between 0-2 Bars At Most?
I need help getting cell tower reception on my phone. Using China Unicom as Network Carrier. I am located in Guangzhou China (a major metropolis). The problem is not with the SIM Card itself because it has been tested and placed in other phones & it works well. Reception Bars fluctuate between 0-2 bars at most, both in and outdoors.Have noticed these problems since upgrading the phone to IOS 5.0 & now also on 5.1.1. No problem with Wi-Fi Networks. I have also tried Resetting the Network & taking out the SIM Card and putting it back in, but this has not helped. Info: iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1.1, Model MC637ZA Serial 83028W5VEDG

IPhone :: Try Turning Off 3G / Signal Strength Improved
If anyone is still having problems with the signal strength, try turning off 3G and Location via Settings section. I constantly had only 1-2 bars, but once turning them off my signal has improved massively; now getting 5 bars 90% of the time. I reckon it is more 3G affecting the signal, but try with both off just to be sure. If it works, then turn on 3G only when needed.

I have my 3G, and notice that my WiFi signal depletes down to 1 bar, even though the phone is right beside my Linksys 310N router. IPhone :: Using New 4s On Straight Talk Low Signal Strength?
I am using a new I phone 4s on Straight Talk and I have only 1 to 2 bars maximum anywhere I go and then it will have no service at all.I was a previous verizon customer and had 4 to 5 sitting in my home now I have 1 or 2 and if I walk around sometimes goes to no service at all. Verizon did not have service everywhere I went but that was in hilly areas as I live in central Illinois and have talked to others with AT&T and they are getting better service than this as that is what towers Straight Talk uses. I am getting a Gel bumper cover and have already tried the black tape it did not help. It says I have 4 G sitting in house but cannot make a call and the 4G goes in and out also. IPhone :: Have Db Signal And Bars
Well I have found a way to easily switch your signal bars on your status bar from regular bars to db's and back whenever you want. Well I'm on the latest beta of 4.1 (8b5097d) on IPhone 4 and it does have feild test (maby it's just because I restored from my 3GS but idk). So go to your phone app and then to the keypad. Then type *3001#12345#* and press call, this will put u in field test app. At the top I can tap the bars and it will switch to db's and if tapped again it will go back. So once u tap to change to db's hold the sleep button till slide to power pops up then let go of the sleep button and hold the home button (this is a respiring). Once u do that u can just easily tap the bars or db's and switch where ever you are in your phone. Good luck hope it works on all your phones. And ps you don't need to be jailbroken!

IPhone :: 2.1 Firmware Update Listed / Fix Signal Strength Display
Summary to those who haven't read Apple's latest letter to iPhone 4 owners: Apple is saying 'death grip' only affects the graphics of the signal strength not signal itself. Who accepts that? And will therefore fix this in the next firmware update. But wait! This seems to be fixed in the 2.1 firmware update already! See 2.1 firmware update change logs. Google it, I don't want to post direct link as Apple may start pulling that information down. Information: HP Windows 7

IPhone :: Signal Gets Stuck On 5 Bars
Ever since we upgraded to IPhone 3.1 on my 3GS and my wife's 3G phones, our internet connection and voicemail stops working correctly. After a turn off/on of the phone, everything will work fine but after a day or two, the moment the signal strength (incorrectly) gets stuck on all 5 bars (no matter what the actual strength is), the internet stops working and voicemail doesn't get notified on my phone until I reset the phone. It seems like a bug in IPhone 3.1 that causes the signal bar to get stuck on all 5 bars which then causes internet, voicemail to stop working. I've tried restoring my phone and putting 3.1 on it already and that hasn't helped. This is NOT GOOD!! Information: IPhone 3GS or 3G Other OS IPhone 3.1
