IPhone :: How International Dialing Prefix

I have my contacts on my phone all stored with an international dialing prefix... when someone from within the country phones me, it doesn't recognise who it is because the call comes to the phone without the international dialing prefix, "(xx) xxx xxxx". When I receive an SMS however, it DOES come with the international dialing prefix, "+xx (xx) xxx xxxx".

So, there is no win win situation here, as I can't have the numbers on my phone stored using both the + prefix and without it just to make sure the phone recognises it in the PHONE application as well as the TEXT/SMS application?

I think this really is a rather ridiculous fault for such an incredible phone.I have posted two other questions on this forum for which I haven't really gotten a solution either, which is a bit discouraging cause I sit down and think about how to explain the problem properly but at the same time wonder whether it's actually going to help anything... so I considered not writing anything about this at all, but realized that where this problem is the most irritating is when you receive a missed call, because I don't know who it is from!

Motorola Droid Bionic :: Text Messaging Fails With International Prefix?
This just started happening to me yesterday afternoon. All the sudden none of my messages would go out. I called Verizon in a panic. They opened a ticket. A while later I received a message from my sister and was able to respond back fine. Turns out the Motorola messaging app does not like international prefix in front of the number. Now i get to go through all my contacts and manually take out the +1. I tested this on my Bionic, Droid X2, and Droid 2 R2D2, all with the most current software release. OG droid still works fine, I'm guessing since it doesn't use the Motorola app. Also tested and am able to send messages fine with the +1 prefix on an iPhone and windows mobile confirming Verizon answer that it was a device issue when they called me back in regards to my ticket moments ago?

IPhone :: Auto Prefix Dialing / "1+area Code+number"
Is there a way to have the iPhone automatically add the Prefix 1 to all my contacts. I live in the city of Chicago and starting this Saturday we have to start using 11 digit dialing due to too many phone numbers and area codes in the city. even if you live in an area code you still have to dial 1 to place a local call.

I am trying to avoid editing all my phone contacts as I have way too many. I will need this to access all phone numbers, even out of state.

any ideas? Does International assist do this for US based phone calls?

I m from Brazil and I have just changed my device from the 8300 series to the 8500 series. All the contacts in my outlook have the phone numbers in the following format + (country code) - (area code) - xxxx-xxxx. I cannot dial in my new device because I have not been able to set up the dialing mode to automatically recognize this dialing format. Where can I do it? I used to have it in my 8300 series device, but I forgot how to do it.

IPhone :: How To Delete Prefix From Contacts In Address Book
When I imported Address Book to my iPhone, it also imported my prefix field. When I receive a known phone call or I am searching for a contact, all I can see is "Mr. and Mrs...." in the screen. Certainly I need the prefix for my Macbook when writing letters, address labels, etc., but not in my iPhone. I cannot seem to find a satisfactory way to delete the prefix on my iPhone.

I did think about making a copy of AB and then deleting the prefixes, but even that seems difficult as (so far) the only way I can make that work is my deleting each prefix, individually. I have a thousand contacts and that seems awfully laborious. Finally, I'm not even sure how I could merge that into iPhone without screwing up my original Address Book.

Cseries :: Can C3 Add A Standard Prefix To Each Number Dialed
We have a number of company Series 40 Nokia phones, such as thje C3, which we'd like to integrate with our company's PBX. We'd like to define a standard prefix (say 1111) which would be added to the beginning of each number dialed (be it from Contacts or a manually entered number). E.g. I choose to call "Mark" from my Contacts on the C3 whose stored cell number is 6944333333; the actual number that will be called will be 11116944333333.

IPhone :: Ipad And International Use
Does anyone know whether the ipad will have the same restriction on use as the iPhone, in that the US model will only work with 3G in the US but not with a UK provider. Or is that issue purely the mobile telephone technology that prevents use, without unblocking? Early days i know, but i am interested in buying one an iPad and dont want to pay for the 3G version only to find it only does wi-fi.

IPhone :: What Are The AT&T International Charges
I've gotten several stories so I'm unclear, but here's what I think the rules are: If someone calls me and I don't answer the phone, there's no charge unless it goes to voice mail. If the caller lets it go to my voice mail, even if they don't leave a message but the greeting starts, I get charged the applicable per minute rate. There's no way to shut off voice mail capability if I wanted to, even though I doubt I would.

Text messages I receive are no charge. Text messages I send are 50 cents each without an international text messaging plan. If I use Skype to call someone while on WiFi, there's no charge from AT&T's end. For those with experience on all this, does this sound right? I'm heading from the US to Europe.

IPhone :: Avoid International Roaming
I travelled to Colombia recently and in general, had my phone either turned off, or on airplane mode the entire trip. I only used it for one five minute phone call and to listen to music for about five hours accumulated. I was there for about 8 days.

I was told to put the phone on airplane mode, so as to avoid any roaming charges, as my fellow travel companions (who all also owned iPhones), said "that way nothing comes through. No wi-fi, messages, nothing".

IPhone :: International Roaming - (GPRS) Rates
In May, before I travelled to Turkey I contacted ATT and asked phone (GPS) and data (GPRS) roaming rates. The custumer rep told me that there is the 20MB Data Global Plan ($24.99/month), which covers 20MB of data transfer and 50MB Data Global Plan ($59.99/month), which covers 50MB of data transfer. I was also told that for a $4.5 monthly fee GPS usage can be $1.99/min instead of a higher price. After learning these options I then purchased the 50MB Data Global Plan, as well as the $4.5 voice plan. When I came back from my vacation I realized that I was charged for all the data transfer despite the fact that I had purchased 50 MB of data coverage. I called ATT. They analyzed my situation. It took 30 minutes to come up with the verdict that they made a mistake and they will now deduce $900 from the total amount which corresponds to the 50MB of data transfer charge. However, after one week I got another bill which still included the $900 charge towards the 50 MB data transfer. I sent ATT an email and asked for explanation. Can you believe what their response was? Well, you still have to pay this amount because Turkey is not covered with the "50MB Data Global Plan".

How is it possible that they can give wrong information on the phone and expect us to know the rates better than the ATT custumor service rep. I just sent another email to ATT asking for correction. I am not sure what they will say. I am afraid it will all come down to documenting the conversation on the phone. Has anyone had similar experience and can anyone tell me how to address this issue if ATT does not back down.

IPhone :: Add - When Redialing Recent International Calls?
I've been trying to figure out how to edit numbers for recent calls I've received. For example, I will get a call from someone in France and it reads 33xxxxxxx. If select the number, iPhone tries to call it back as 33xxxxx, not +33xxxxxx so the call will fail. If I look at the details of the number, I can add it to a contact and edit it then but there is no option just to edit the number and dial it. The International Assist option only seems to add +1 to numbers (I'm in the US) if I was overseas dialing back. It doesn't seem to automatically add the + when I'm calling an international number. That makes sense because I'm not sure how it would know. Still, there has to be a way to edit numbers from the recents call list without adding them as contacts.

IPhone :: International Calls Without Duplicating Numbers
Before buying iPhone, I checked with the manuals, that it was possible to set the "+" sign for international phonecalls (International Assist), but it doesn't show on my iPhone (Bought it in Japan, with Softbank). Softbank and Apple Customer Support told me to change my database to include numbers with and without the intentional code. I refuse to do this as, other mobile telephones (cheaper and supposedly lower technical level) can set the "+" to allow international phonecalls without duplicating the numbers (Specially not an easy task when my data base has more than a 1,000 phone numbers)

The iPhone manual English version, states on page 46. "Set iPhone to add the correct prefix when dialing from another country: In Settings, tap Phone, then turn International Assist on. This lets you make calls to your home country using the numbers in your contacts and favorites, without having to add a prefix or your country code.

(1) Not available in all areas." On the Japanese manual same information is contained on page 46:

(a) In which areas is this functionality available?
(b) If it is not available in Japan, is there a plan to make it available in a near future?
(c) If it is not available in Japan, could you please let me know the policy that lead to this decision?
